It's not a Shuker but my custom OW EVO 5 is a trans red with a maple board and black hardware so these may give you a good idea of how they look together... For me it's a winning combination... Getting a bass built to your specs is brilliant - hope it turns out to be awesome
Yummy! It looks like a lollipop! very lickable lol!! (I mean, looks tastey!)

Hmmm - being a tube, I suspect it has some sort of starter right? Like a normal 'tube' light. I'm not sure if it has a specific type - but I reckon a new bulb and starter - and also to give the contacts a good clean too!

Hey dvisions! Somewhere lurking on BassChat is a really good thread answering exactly this question. I haven't looked for it yet - but of you have a go with the search facility you'll be sure to find it. In my experience, you are going to notice a good difference as soon as you lose those bog standard 'stock' valves. My personal choice so far has been a Telefunken clone from Watford Valves, known as the Harma Diamond STR ECC83 and then a Jan Phillips ECC82 in the 'other' position (four ECC83/12ax7, 1 ECC82/12AU7*). However, I like GT, Ruby, JJ and those wonderful Mullards too. (Incidently, the Harma's ARE actually quality picked JJ's - but thats another story). Go for selected quality preamp valves known for low microphonics - however you'll no doubt have lots of fun choosing - as they can all sound different. It'll be down to personal taste and deep pockets to find a brand and model you like. - To make things even more confusing - some valves sound good in one brand of amplifier, but can sound naff in another! The stock valves you are likely to have in the pre are Sovtek. You can actually get some Sovtek upgrades, which will be better - but I'm not sure what the model number of those are. Sorry. *12AX7 /AU7 is just the US naming convention for the UK's ECC83/82 and the AX7 is interchangeable with the 83, AU7 with the 82 and require no special setting up. It's like changing a light bulb for preamp valves!

best place/price for Rotosound trubass black nylon strings?
Dood replied to daz's topic in Accessories and Misc
Stringbusters.co.uk carry Rotosound - If they don't have them listed I know they can get them in. Try them or maybe stringsdirect if GAK doesn't work out for any reason. (I haven't looked at the prices myself.) -
The best of the current pedal compressors that I've tried is the TC Electronics Nova Dynamics. Extremely versatile and sounds very good and totally silent. It's actually a dual compressor or as I use it, comp/noise gate. http://www.tcelectronic.com/novadynamics.asp If all the knobs frighten you, then a very close second place is the EBS Multicomp. http://www.bass.se/
+1 on both of these, in that order too! I have both and are my two favourite compressors and I have owned a few!

Right - what a mess! I#d sat there and calculated that if you bought the Cabinet and Preamp from the website listed above, you'd be paying 1350 ish and 490 ish respectively, including VAT but not any shipping costs. I, as I say am not looking to profit or make any money back, so £900 firm, is a ludicrous price for this week only and I will be raising the price to £1000 later next week to help along the deal! Need to make space for a new rig £900 - I would suggest local pickup OR I can meet halfway depending on distance. -
Sorted, thanks to Steve and Rich for a quick reply. It wasn't the mods, so either I did it by accident or the gremlins have been in! Chris
I had just this minute had thesame problem. I wrote a long advert , spotted some peeps reading it - and then when I looked down the page, half of my text is missing. I now have to rewrite. Seems we have a bug / problem somewhere.

PICTURE of cab and pre for sale: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?act=Attach...st&id=32429 Original Review I wrote with pictures: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=59956 Well here's a turn out for the books! It has certainly been a wierd year for me gear wise and has certainly also seen a great deal of change going on. My poor wallet has had a coronary! It all began when I hurt my back ages ago and I was gutted to see my Hartke 4.5XL cabs and Ampeg SVT2 Pro along with a rack full of gear sold off in search for lightweight gear. As I'm sure those who have seen my posts over the years have no doubt been privvy to my frustration looking for this G.A.Sious (I just made that word up) 'ultimate' bass rig that would once again like the tone in my head.. The rig I have up for sale today is what I had hoped to be the end of my GAS attack, as it is brilliant - but then I have to apportion some blame for a further GAS attack to my mate 'Stag' - oh - and 'BassCat' too for cementing a certain niggle I had over gearnot quite sounding like my old rig!! Thanks guys!!! - Hartke released the Neodymium speaker loaded Hydrive range. Anyway, long story short - I played through the Hydrive HX410 and loved it - REALLY- infact, I bought one on a whim as it totally reminded me of what I loved about my old rig. - Then at the recent Mini Bass meet up here in sunny Norfolk, it was Hartke wall-to-wall! I realise this is a for sale forum so I won't blather on too long - however - after several days of talking to Hartke, I am really excited to have been invite dto join the Hartke Artist Roster by Larry Hartke himself. This ungigged system is now for sale at what I can only describe as a ridiculous price. I am not making any money back on it and I am asking for about half the price of the best online deal you are likely to find for the rig. Condition: Excellent - a minor scuff on the outside of the cabinet, that will probably wash off and a set of holes where some larger wheels had been fitted. They do not affect the tone of the cabinet. You will or course have the original removeable wheels fitted and included. I have a box for the preamp, I *think* but not for the cabinet system. I would recommend coming to pick up - OR I can meet you half way, depending on distance. PM me with any questions and I look forward to lots of people having a good laugh about my crazy year in Bass Gear. Tell ya what though - IT WAS GREAT!!! - Now, where's that long list of gear I posted that described all the stuff I have tried out since the 4.5's left???? Ok, so here's the full review and description: I think the link to the online manual is availble there too: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=59956 and price? The lowest price for the cabinet alone in the US is here: http://bass-guitars.musiciansfriend.com/pr...inet?sku=481425 which {edit} - Readding the part that got mysteriously deleted GRRR!! I'd sat here and calculated that if you bought the Cabinet and Preamp from the website listed above, you'd be paying 1350 ish and 490 ish respectively, including VAT but not any shipping or excise costs. I, as I say am not looking to profit or make any money back, so £900 firm, is a ludicrous price for this week only and I will be raising the price to £1000 later next week to help along the deal! Need to make space for a new rig £900 - I would suggest local pickup OR I can meet halfway depending on distance. PM me, we can work something out to secure a purchase. -
that simple eh?
Yup, I agree with OBBM too.
I was worried about the whole link front to front or back to back or vice versa thing ? I was told to be careful.... (does that make sense to anyone?) thanks obbm btw!
I can understand that you may have been told to be careful - as in, staying away from connecting the speaker terminals in to another amp for example. I've seen it done in the past. As Dave has said - basically an amp 'head' typically contains a preamp section (the bit with the gain control, EQ, compressor etc) and a poweramp (call it the engine - the bit that drives the speakers up to stage volume) - Those sections are usually separated by the effects loop connections. Some amplifiers DO differ so do not take this as a rule. So being as you have an ability to part the preamp and the poweramp using *just* a cable, means that you can use the preamp section from one box and feed it to the poweramp section of another box.
so The amp is the same an fx pedal effectivley? no speaker output/connection worries me(!)
Well.. I assume you are referring to the preamp, (as descrbed above) - it does run at very low signal levels, similar to effect pedals, yes - but the output of the preamp is specifically designed to send the correct level of signal to a power amplifier which is usually a lot stronger than the signal out of your bass. There is a differentiation between those levels - one is called 'Line Level' the other, not surprisingly is called 'Instrument Level' - neither is anywhere strong enogh to drive a speaker properly.
and just a normal j/j cable then?
Yep, 1/4" jack to jack instrument cable (NOT a speaker cable)
would that mean the fx loop on the smx head would work for octaver/ tuner/ chorus? oh god! sorry for being dumb!
I'd also have to check out the manuals for the trace heads mentioned - but there are probably more ways than one of configuring your effects in as well for best results.

Another Shuker on the way! Fantastic! - I think the flame top in trans red will look great - especially with the black hardware!
Actually, maybe it's that i'm using, and it's guided by the hats. When i play drums, my right hand is the clock in my head.
Thing is, it's a damn problem getting all those voices and the ringing to shutup long enough so I can hear teh damn clock!!!! lol

I seem to remember someone doing some winisd calculations and worked out that most cabinets are waaaaaay to smallfor their drivers so maybe having 3 vertically alligned 10" speakers in a 6x10 box might actually be a really good idea. Unfortunately, it blatantly won't sell, because it 'doesn't look right'. Find me a cabinet with 3 vertically alligned 3015LF's in!!!! Monster!!
I know that most of you guys play rock so I defer to your opinions. From a jazz point of view, to me it's always the hi-hat or the ride cymbal. The kick drum hasn't been the driver in jazz for the last 50 years or so. As a DB player, the less of kick drum the better IMO.
I think, although into prog and metal primarily, The hats are still probably what I listen to most - however, I have found that I HAVE to rely on the 'clock' inside my head to feel a lot of the wierd and wonderful time changes that I am subconciously counting off as we motor though a song. This is an old video, but it gives you an idea of what our drummer is playing in one of our 'easier' songs. The hats do dissapear and it's easy to get lost in a turn around!
They're pretty essential in some songs for speed and fluidity.
Absolutely! infact,I really can't think of a single song that I don't use 'pull offs'. I think not using such a technique is a bit like taking the word 'and' out of your vocabulary. How does it kill your hands vmax'? - I was wondering if you prefered playing your bass with a high action? This could make using pull off and hammer ons more difficult - as will too much relief in the neck or a nut slot that makes the string sit too high from the fingerboard. I find it so difficult to play basses *ehem* 'set up' by the average retail outlet - as they are invariably a dog and you can drive a bus under the strings. I like employing smooth bass runs in my playing. Longer legato passages akin to the playing of Charlie Christian or Alan Holdsworth. Though, we don't play skinny guitar strings, we have big hefty cables to navigate - so I think it is important that we make life as easy for ourselves as possible!

If there was ever a valve amp schematic you could call 'cute' that would be it! It's right up there with Fabian's Hack-a-day Business Card Valve Amp - a project i STILL haven't gotten around to building!
