Give your ODB-3 a new lease of life by putting an EQ pedal after it, to shape and tame some of that drive. Try cutting the treble and boosting mids and lows for a thicker distortion.

and Guitar Pro is full of glitches - like the odd memory violation in the middle of trying to save! *crash!!!* - It is one of the better notation programs for guitar and bass though!

I remember someone telling me that they write and collaborate with their band with a product that exists already - but for the life of me can't remember what it is. As it happens, It's something I have been meaning to look in to it myself for my band - given the 5400miles between me and my drummer!!! IIRC I *think* the person I spoke to said they have played a gig together using the software in 'Second Life' - but that might be me making it up in my mind!! Having sold my F1 recently - I can't help having a little niggling feeling over MB's new cabinets released in to the range.. a new 8x10 I see.. I reckon an F1 on the top of that would look hilarious - but I know it would sound like a beast!

oh - and I understand, way back when Townsend and Ox both used the same backline cabinets for guitar and bass?

Guitar amps in the majority of cases actually have some form of low end filtering in the preamp section, inherent or by design to enable a tight focussed distortion sound. I have many schematics that support this in my collection too! If the lowend is boosted enough, then yes, puny guitar speakers can't handle it - but many bass players for years have been adding guitar combos to 'big rigs; to their bass stacks to add that all important dirt and bite to their sound. I don't have the luxury of having a nice valve guitar amp to play with, so I currently use a Line 6 X3 to model a driven guitar amp sound to mix with a big fat bass tone. Sounds great in the mix!

I've said it before, I shall say it again! Get the TC Electronic C300 - It has been designed so that even those who have no idea how to use a compressor can plug in and get perfect results. Featuring a rotary control for source specific programming. Multiband, Fullband, Parallel compression and fully configurable noisegates all in one box - I can't think of another compressor that has so many features and sounds so good for the price.

[/quote] The raw materials and cabinet design doesn't cost much at all - I've a suplier for D-Class amp modules, have a cabinet design and can source the speakers as well. As a one off - it still costs a huge amount cheaper than the list price of pretty much every 'active solution' available. But then, I don't have an R&D team, a factory, offices, import costs, patents to pay for etc etc etc.. Having said that, if you looked at the trade prices Vs the retail prices of musical intrument products across the board, you'd probably have a heart attack.

They are awesome! - Sadly BK don't make them any more - but do a google - as I know there are defintely other comapnies that make 'panel D-Class amplifiers'. (read as 'lacking in REAL bottom end') as that's not what they are really designed to do. However, if you went for something for like the Mackie SA1530 (I think that's the model name) type units - I think they are a better design for small FOH - and thus a bit meatier for punchy low bottom end. - I'd done a fair bit of investigating whilst I was looking out for an active solution myself - and found that the costs climbed greatly above the 'active PA cab' style units - to a point of 'not worth doing'. [/quote] Ahh Thanks! - Yup - It's a big beasty of a cabinet - Although it features a certain well known Neo LF speaker and some 8" counterparts, along with a light weight D-Class power amplifier - the cabinet it self is akin to a bank safe! I've owned a Powersoft power amplifier myself - and - well.. they are AWESOME! - Pricey - but they deliver the goods by the truckload and sound pristine at teh same time.

Have a look at my review of my ISP Technologies 'active rig' in the ...err..reviews section. It's not really an easy 'pick up and go' system - it's more of the touring 'built like the proverbial out house' kit. But still, it's an activ cabinet solution that can be ran with any preamp - a Sansamp even! I like the look of Berg' - I'd love to hear one. It's a shame that Mr B hasn't stuck his active unit in to more of his cabs - like a great big 4 x 12 1000 W monster!

Anyway, I digress - I did feel a bit like 'Heavy Metal' musicians and their fans were made out to be 'the great unwashed'. I would have also liked to have seen a brand new documentary, as opposed to regurgitating old material. Why is there nothing more recent? Heavy metal doesn't stop at the 80's - so where are the documenatries about the 90's? and the current stock of metal bands and all sub-genres? Well, I guess BBC4 *did* manage to show the Iron Maiden concert after, that I really enjoyed - and at least *that* wasn't 20 years old!
