oh - and I understand, way back when Townsend and Ox both used the same backline cabinets for guitar and bass?
Absolutely fine then. Why should it blow amps up? That's absolute rubbish as long as you're not trying to push loads of low end from it which you've already said you're not.
Totally agree. Guitar amps in the majority of cases actually have some form of low end filtering in the preamp section, inherent or by design to enable a tight focussed distortion sound. I have many schematics that support this in my collection too! If the lowend is boosted enough, then yes, puny guitar speakers can't handle it - but many bass players for years have been adding guitar combos to 'big rigs; to their bass stacks to add that all important dirt and bite to their sound. I don't have the luxury of having a nice valve guitar amp to play with, so I currently use a Line 6 X3 to model a driven guitar amp sound to mix with a big fat bass tone. Sounds great in the mix!

I've said it before, I shall say it again! Get the TC Electronic C300 - It has been designed so that even those who have no idea how to use a compressor can plug in and get perfect results. Featuring a rotary control for source specific programming. Multiband, Fullband, Parallel compression and fully configurable noisegates all in one box - I can't think of another compressor that has so many features and sounds so good for the price.

Hi Big John, It may help your advert is you add some more details. The links you have posted are not in English and thus you may find you are limiting the chances of selling items, to a predominantly English audience. You are also required to specify a price for any item you are selling in the forum. Hope this helps, Cheers!
That's an understatement! I've been looking at these out of interest and can't understand why they are so expensive. A wooden box, a single 12" speaker and a power amp. Where does the price come from? Don't these list at around fifteen hundred quid?
The raw materials and cabinet design doesn't cost much at all - I've a suplier for D-Class amp modules, have a cabinet design and can source the speakers as well. As a one off - it still costs a huge amount cheaper than the list price of pretty much every 'active solution' available. But then, I don't have an R&D team, a factory, offices, import costs, patents to pay for etc etc etc.. Having said that, if you looked at the trade prices Vs the retail prices of musical intrument products across the board, you'd probably have a heart attack.
Markbass now have powered cabinets. VERY pricey, but the features seem amazing if I have read them correctly. http://www.markbass.it/products.php?lingua...=2&vedi=149 They seem even more fun than the Berg IPs.
WOH!! Now I like the look of those! - Hmm - a stack of four so that all the cones stand vertically.. I bet that would be just lovely! *wallet turns over, coughs and dies from shock*
that's what I thought, all I need is the simplest power amp with a smallish footprint, jammed into a cab
I was just thinkin about Velvertkevorkian and he arrives!
No they're not- the Bergantino IPs and the ISPs are both heavy for their size. I think they're expensive because they're being marketed as the next big breakthrough in bass amplification, despite powered PA cabs having been around for a while and being much cheaper.
I was half expecting you to post an image of the ole BK Electronics amp module that you have! @Mr Sibs It's basically an amp module that used to be available to buy, that - with a minor bit of tooling can slide in to the back of any bass cabinet and turn it in to an active cab!! They are awesome! - Sadly BK don't make them any more - but do a google - as I know there are defintely other comapnies that make 'panel D-Class amplifiers'. (Some are a bit cheap and crummy unfortunately)
interesting idea - will the sound of a pa monitor be suitable as a bass cab? any idea the most suitable if such a thing exists??
Hmmm - debate time! - realistically - 90% of the 'single 15" in a plastic box' aren't really up for the job as decent backline - but do a passable job at monitoring Bass guitar fully. (read as 'lacking in REAL bottom end') as that's not what they are really designed to do. However, if you went for something for like the Mackie SA1530 (I think that's the model name) type units - I think they are a better design for small FOH - and thus a bit meatier for punchy low bottom end. - I'd done a fair bit of investigating whilst I was looking out for an active solution myself - and found that the costs climbed greatly above the 'active PA cab' style units - to a point of 'not worth doing'.
I love my IP112ER and EX112ER. They sound great. Not cheap or light tho.
Again, a set of cabs I would love to hear - and would love to see Jim drop one of his active units in to his bigger cabs too!
thanks dood, looks very interesting, although you are right - bit bigger than I can manage for the moment! JMT was looking at a powersoft amp, but the price!!!! I was hoping there would be a cheap solution, might just have to put the pre-amp into a combo, what a waste...
Ahh Thanks! - Yup - It's a big beasty of a cabinet - Although it features a certain well known Neo LF speaker and some 8" counterparts, along with a light weight D-Class power amplifier - the cabinet it self is akin to a bank safe! I've owned a Powersoft power amplifier myself - and - well.. they are AWESOME! - Pricey - but they deliver the goods by the truckload and sound pristine at teh same time.

Have a look at my review of my ISP Technologies 'active rig' in the ...err..reviews section. It's not really an easy 'pick up and go' system - it's more of the touring 'built like the proverbial out house' kit. But still, it's an activ cabinet solution that can be ran with any preamp - a Sansamp even! I like the look of Berg' - I'd love to hear one. It's a shame that Mr B hasn't stuck his active unit in to more of his cabs - like a great big 4 x 12 1000 W monster!
rubber O's
Four Candles? ... Sorry, Couldn't resist it!! In answer to your question, I find sticky back foam draft excluder (the stuff you get in a reel) pretty good for placing under the pickup. Dampens vibrations too.

Dood replied to BigBadBass's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
Hello! Anyone Interested in buying a EBS TD650 and EBS Proline 4x10?? Both are in brand new condition. Amp has been in a flight case since is was bought so its in pristine condition along with the cab which is only been used in my studio really. I love this amp and cab but im selling for something a bit more portable as i am gigging LOADS at the moment! I can post any pictures if your keen!! Cheers for reading Steve
Steve, you'll need to supply a price on your advert as per BC T&C's..that aside.. - I think the TD650 sounds awesome - certainly one of my favourites! -
Thats Talkbass, you can tell by the American flag. Now this is Basschat HQ,
This has to go in the BassChat quotes section - Post of the year!!!! (ok.. so it's only March...) I've tried to wean myself off BassChat - or at least - to concentrate my time on *modding only* - but it's tough when everyone around me in my daily life has very little interest in the minute details of everything bass related or indeed unable to understand my 'bass fanaticism affliction' - Therefore, I have to come here to get my fix with like minded people!
HEy dood ... and he does it all with a p bass
Indeed! - I must admit - I had a pang to get another P Bass after watching that - maybe to end up hanging next to the other two I own and haven't used! Hmmm - a nice 70's Rosewood P on sunburst... or.. a Maple board on a natural Ash body... STOP STOP!! lol I have to agree with some of the comments though - I noticed large chunks of this documentary - AND the Black Sabbath one having been lifted from previous documentaries that I have on an old video somewhere. For example an original Arena program - I remember it well, as it opened with Lemmy, lit up in green - looking rather demonic with loads of gnarly feedback roaring away! Anyway, I digress - I did feel a bit like 'Heavy Metal' musicians and their fans were made out to be 'the great unwashed'. I would have also liked to have seen a brand new documentary, as opposed to regurgitating old material. Why is there nothing more recent? Heavy metal doesn't stop at the 80's - so where are the documenatries about the 90's? and the current stock of metal bands and all sub-genres? Well, I guess BBC4 *did* manage to show the Iron Maiden concert after, that I really enjoyed - and at least *that* wasn't 20 years old!
Putting that to one side for a moment, here's a UK manufacturer who has rated their 1u Class D power amps in RMS: http://www.proaudio.ltd.uk/1U%20Amplifiers.html Very reasonable prices too. The PA12001 is 230 quid.
Hey Steve - Have you been able to gain contact with proaudio ltd? I gave up with trying to track them down for actual delivered prices of those 1u amps!
Interestingly, the ISP cabs I already use share a lot in common with the design - and indeed Alex's cabs - so I would probably be better off getting a matching extension cabinet for mine - but the 1515/66 would be pretty nice nevertheless. There was a picture with the grill on somewhere - but I couldn't see it straight away when I posted. {edit - Here is is!} http://www.talkbass.com/wiki/index.php/Vla...6_%22Monster%22
Right, that's it!!! We're gonna build one of these. I have a mate who wants to help!

Just a quick post from me - I would say it depends on what is coming up in the line and where I need to be in order to execute the phrase efficiently. Another question you could ask is whether or not players are 'thumb up' (Like Mark King, for example) or 'thumb down' (Fieldy, as an extreme example). Again, for me I have my bass in a position that I can execute either way, as I find some lines easier in a different position.
Sound card suggestions, budget to start with is poss??
I started with a Creative Audigy and Audigy 2 way back when - and in my 'back up' box I have an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 - a nice multi-in PCI card I bought second hand from this very forum. My 'scratch recording' suite is a line 6 X3 live plugged in via USB to a laptop and thats it! (Well - when the X3 comes back from repair!) I think for doing quick recordings - on a laptop then there are a multitude of USB and Firewire devices you can grab - Line6 doing well in the USB market - as they are cheap as chips. Take a look at the UX1 and UX2.

Once again, a pleasure to deal with. My drum stool has a new home!

How Can You Justify Spending £5,350 on a New Bass??
Dood replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
I've not seen the review myself - but I agree - having found one of the best luthiers who in my opinion is creating his own masterpieces without the ridiculous price tag - I see no reason to spend that kinda money on an 'off the hook' bass. However, if I were just burning money, then I'd like to own John Deacon's 68 P Bass please -
Novice, Intermediate, Bloody Good or Something a Little Bit Special?
Dood replied to mgibson's topic in General Discussion
I don't think I could classify someones ability by the songs they play. I've seen bass players slay progressive tracks with feel and timing akin to taking a swipe with a baseball bat, yet watched a 12 year old make a fretless sing to the point of jealousy with his 'simplest' of lines - the lad just rinsed every ounce of groove and feel out of the line and he didn't appear to even realise it. - I would say the guy was destined for 'Something a Little Bit Special'. -
