New Amp Dilemma...Ampeg SVT II Pro to...Old Trace Elliot… but which one?
Dood replied to donslow's topic in Amps and Cabs
P.S. I realise it isn't any help whatsoever, but I sold my first SVT 2 Pro many, many years ago. but... I..errrr... seem to have bought another more recently. It probably won't ever go out to a gig, maybe it will, but it's super nice in my little studio space for recording! Sure, it's overkill, but hey, we might all get hit by an asteroid tomorrow -

Think of the volume control like the accelerator on a car. We spend most of our time at the lower speeds. It doesn't do any damage and you've always got the extra should you ever need it -
Interestingly, and, you could say coincidentally, Skin covered Hangin' just after the band I played in supported them - and it was a strong track in our own set list. I forget the band, but a similar thing happened with our version of Message In A Bottle. lol. Myke Gray is on my Facebook, he's a hard working so-and-so that's for sure. He deserves to do well. Also known for Jagged Edge and current band Shades Of Gray.

Shame the cost of shipping and VAT on the total is so painful to the wallet; Japan sure do have some nice basses in stock!

Who's Playing Old, Heavy, Outmoded Gear that No One Wants?
Dood replied to Count Bassie's topic in Amps and Cabs
I know of one model that came out a many years ago where the fans on a batch had been wired with the wrong polarity, thus they didn't spin and were prone to shutting down due to overheating - and cheaper no-name models where insufficient heat sinking (and heatsink compound) were found to be used (a bit like the internals of my MacBook Pro as it happens - a known issue), but generally speaking, everything that has been built more recently, especially with the ICE modules have pretty resilient. I've owned many and reviewed even more and haven't suffered a shut down yet. Maybe user error can be factored in if kit is being taken to a service agent? -
I've a document somewhere that is a list of all the bass gear I've ever owned. The contents would fill a small museum I am sure. It's scary to think where this obsession has led me! (Other than having the pleasure of geeking out in three major bass mags each month lol)

and another solid northern Ash P bass, just to really wreck my back. -

But I do want a 7400 and an IBS 400... a Trace V8.. and A Trace V-type Preamp, an Ampeg SVP Pro, two Hartke 4.5XLs, an Ampeg 810, Bergantino HD212's, Barefaced Big Twin 2 (or a pair of BB2's) and ummm... a new back. -

Yeah ha ha! My back wouldn't let me take it out the house, my neighbours wouldn't want it in the house ha ha! -

Yes, I did look at it many times! -

Yes! The same! I remember playing a hefty ole P bass (that I did ended up buying) through massive 7400 stack! (Gosh to think that P bass was only 400 quid back then) - the Marshall stack was of course a considerable amount more. I was obsessed with it, but I was actually very pleased with my (rather unfortunately named) Marshall IBS 200W head that I used for years. The cabinet I used was a secondhand 2x15 with Celestion speakers. Awww, maybe I should recreate that stack one day, it was lovely. I have a 32Kg SVT 2 Pro on my shelf. I love it, it sounds incredible, but like @Bridgehouse, I can't imagine it will go out to many gigs these days!! -
re: spaced out, Yeah, I know. 👍

Granted, that's a useable example. Would be interesting to try those in stereo. There's a few in the 8xxx series I see too.

Jon Shuker and I had talked years ago about putting a pickup underneath an extended ramp, but leaving a cutaway so the pickups(s) could be moved back and forth in the ramp, thus, no unsightly holes in the top of the body. (Yes, admittedly there are those who think ramps are ugly too and, I tend to agree when they're done badly!)

{Edited because I cant delete my own post}

Actually, scrub that. I've not used backline for ages, because, well.. IEMs.

Many years ago, whilst I was still maybe a bit wet behind the ears, I discovered that rather than taking two speaker cabinets stacked, I could take just one, angled up to face my ears. These days, I have a little stand that cost about a tenner that I can pop cabinets on so they face my lug-oles.

The problem comes when you buy blind and are unsure that the microphone elements can handle the SPL of a live environment. Even some unknown models that suggest being able to handle 120dB have fallen short in tests. I like the idea of at least using a couple of Behringer C2's. Cheap as chips and work.

I think the general figure of adding 28% on top of the cost of the item and shipping combined should cover all the additional costs to get it delivered to your door?
-
The H4n method means you can also place compression / limiting on each of the mic or audio feeds too. Your mix to your ears is also stereo. fwiw I also use two condensers when necessary and a stereo IEM mix is available. Actually, I would rather set up my own external monitoring than have to ever go mono again. Eurgh. p.s. I’d not recommend anything but decent condensers for ambience. SM57’s response couldn’t deliver the results I’d wish for, but even a pair of SE pencils will be brilliant. SE8 for example, but even a pair of SE X1S mics.

Oh yummy, my old drummer had a Ludwig Vistalite, very John Bonham! It was actually a great gigging kit, but I thought his Yamaha version had a better sounding kick drum.
-
I really like Evans! I used G2 heads and EMAD for my kick as I wanted something with a bit of tone to it, but when I get a kit again I might drop UVs on for a whirl. I'm a drum n00b though ha ha! https://www.daddario.com/products/percussion/evans-drumheads/drum-set/drumset-snare-batter/

Definitely!
