I think we also change it frequently as decent bass gear is harder to come by for us bass players - certainly a lack of stock from the likes of the mainstream high street outlets - it's really the only way to get to try out gear properly. Though thanks to shops like Bass Merchant, Bass Direct and the Gallery - at least we still have one or two 'bass only' outlets out there!! I shudder when I think of how much gear I have bought and sold in the last 20 odd years! OUCH!!!

Yup - agreed - if you want to make use of the master volume on the amp head to control your level, then plug the output of the sansamp in to the effects return socket.

I would say the tech had the sweeter tone and the Epifani was a little more..ermm.. creamy/chewy. It's really hard to describe tone as it is really down to personal..well.. taste ha ha!! Out of the two - if I had to purchase - I would probably go for the Techs as I preferred the tweeter sound/crossover - but the Epifani is still a blindingly good cabinet. Obviously the 610 on it's own had the better bottom end in comparison to a single Tech 410, as to be expected - but the pair of Techs I had made a fantastic 'mini 8x10' set up that never ever gave up when being given 'the juice' from my amps. I haven't tried the newer style Tec-Amp cabinets yet - but I understand they are an improvement on the previous, with better speakers in. - Well - the originals were very good - so I think the new ones must be awesome! That's just my personal taste - but to be honest - I would have either - just more likely to lean to the Tec gear.

The title of this thread made me smile - as I too have changed my gear far too many times for sanity - yet I still have heard, more than a couple of times in the last few months, a phrase similar too 'So, when *are* you gonna get that Hartke rig back???'

I think the Hot Hand is a pretty clever idea - the vid here shows a guitarist using it on his thumb, but with the amount of thumb-based techniques for bass players, it could be a useful tool. Reminds me - I was gonna come visit Bass Merchant again soon! ;o) Funnily, I felt the same about the Bill Dickens GT-BD7. It was an awesome bass - a bit on the heavy side - but the string spacing being 16mm was brilliant. Tonally, I wasn't really into the Bart' pups and circuit, despite having some pretty diverse 'colours' on tap. Still had me wanting for more. There are aspects of the GT-BD7 and my old Tobias basses that made it over to my Shukers.. but there be magic in the hills of the Peak District!!

Wow! What a cool find actually! Technically, the Dimension pedal isn't a chorus pedal - well - in as much as it doesn't produce it's effect in the same way that a more usual one does IIRC. I remember using 'dimension' effects on the old Yamaha SPX effects units and loving it! With Fretless it's a big yes yes yes! You might wanna check prices around the net as they seem to be worth a bit, being so rare now!

I'd have been tempted to mount the Bean unit on a rack shelf, if it at least had a MIDI socket on it.

I think what would REALLY sell this pedal board to me is if you were able to mix two channels ala the X3 in parallel. for example, on my X3 live I mix a clean compressed mono bass tone with a seperate dirty channel, thus no matter what ever type of distortion I select in a patch, the core bass tone stays the same. I apply any stereo effects / modulation to the dirty channel, which also features a high pass filter, thus - no effects get in the way of the bottom end. I know that the M9 has some EQ models etc and this ability would have me snapping one up in no time. - Having said that - the X3 Live isn't an expensive unit and there's no reason why I shouldn't keep hold of it - if only for it's ability as a recording interface. Now - if the X3 Live was available in a 1u rack... that would be a great idea!

I think this kind of personification is pretty harmless - I guess it brings the owner in someway closer to their possessions. I suppose with more personalised instruments owners do feel a bit more possessive towards them, being as they may well have chosen every tiny detail of their specification, which makes them different from *all the rest*. Guilty as charged. But what is more wierd? Talking to your pets as if they even remotely understand a word you are saying. Owner: "Who's a good boy? Are you a good boy? Is that your toy. huh? go get it - go on!" Dog: *blank looks* Yes, I do talk to my cat - and he does answer - but it's hard to hear him over the other voices.

Possibly - however, bear in mind that if you bought a shorter scale length string - the winding *might not* pass over the nut - and fall short. Rotosound do actual state the lengths of their strings on the website. You will see IIRC they have three different scale lengths available - however check that your type of sting has the different scales available. Finally - I'm not sure if the text is still on the Rotosound website - but apparently, string breakages due to winding the actually string round the tuning key are not covered by warranty. I guess it will be a case of measuring your scale length and how much room you have over the nut up to the tuning key to see if a shorter scale length will fit.

If it's any help guys - the 'ER' bit of the name refers to the company who make the filters themselves - Etymotic Research. Contact them directly or via t'interweb. Their sales lady (whose name escapes me right now) was absolutely brillaint when I needed accesories. I even got some nice freebies thrown in too. I should go direct to them. On a side note - Etymotic Research manufacuture under the names 'Elacin' and 'Heroes Ear Plugs' too.

I think that comments about making valve tones sounding SS, is probably to do with the boosting of treble frequencies that happens when you over cook the 'Process' control. Too much treble makes distortion sound fizzy. I think most people think that solid state distortion is more fizzy than valve - but it IS possible to EQ it back to a far nicer tone. Interestingly, to note the BBE gear - the 'low' control - or whatever it is called is ONLY a bass boost/cut at 50Hz. It performs no part of the maximiser's process. The treble frequencies that are affected are pretty high up the bass guitar range already - and thus I found that I didn't use mine for any more than EQing. A multiband compressor did a far better job of improving my bass tone. (Until such times as I discovered where the problems in my signal chain were and have been rectified.)

Well, I guess SuperGlue is a suitable fix for the problem lol. SuperGlue was used in the errmmm Vietnam(?? not sure) War to glue soldier's open wounds back together! - I hope he is using the stuff which is safe for using on the skin!

Well, we must be on a similar wavelength! - I've been hoarding schematics diagrams of some well known preamps that I like the sound of. - I can myself build and put together such a preamp, given time and inclination - however - as I was hoping for something with MIDI implementation, it would have proved to be be a bit more of a head ache - hence my looking for the ADA or JMP-1. If that fails, then it will be the 'homebrew' route instead. It's a amzing when you start delving in to designs - how similar a lot of the most well known distortion circuits are! I used to own a Warwich Quadruplet preamp. It also features a small power amp section in to a dummy load to give a realistic 'powr amp' feel. It worked quite well and I think if you can get something together it'd be a great alternative to all the 'amp sims' on the market. go for it! - For now, I'm gonna keep my eyes open for a s/h midi pre. (At the right price!! the Triaxis is well over priced!)
