1. I think this kind of personification is pretty harmless - I guess it brings the owner in someway closer to their possessions. I suppose with more personalised instruments owners do feel a bit more possessive towards them, being as they may well have chosen every tiny detail of their specification, which makes them different from *all the rest*. Guilty as charged. But what is more wierd? Talking to your pets as if they even remotely understand a word you are saying. Owner: "Who's a good boy? Are you a good boy? Is that your toy. huh? go get it - go on!" Dog: *blank looks* Yes, I do talk to my cat - and he does answer - but it's hard to hear him over the other voices.
 2. Possibly - however, bear in mind that if you bought a shorter scale length string - the winding *might not* pass over the nut - and fall short. Rotosound do actual state the lengths of their strings on the website. You will see IIRC they have three different scale lengths available - however check that your type of sting has the different scales available. Finally - I'm not sure if the text is still on the Rotosound website - but apparently, string breakages due to winding the actually string round the tuning key are not covered by warranty. I guess it will be a case of measuring your scale length and how much room you have over the nut up to the tuning key to see if a shorter scale length will fit.
 3. If it's any help guys - the 'ER' bit of the name refers to the company who make the filters themselves - Etymotic Research. Contact them directly or via t'interweb. Their sales lady (whose name escapes me right now) was absolutely brillaint when I needed accesories. I even got some nice freebies thrown in too. I should go direct to them. On a side note - Etymotic Research manufacuture under the names 'Elacin' and 'Heroes Ear Plugs' too.
 4.
Do they sound any different from the Aphex rackmount one (the one with the big bottom and aural exciter) ? Anyone compared them ?
I'm not sure - I've tried both, but never together I'm afraid. Hmmm - I'm not sure if they do the same as I know that an 'exciter' in studio terms is different from an audio 'maximiser' - but given that these are just product names - and that the BBE doesn't follow naming convention suit.. I suspect the Aphex doesn't either. I'd like to be find out though.
 5. I think that comments about making valve tones sounding SS, is probably to do with the boosting of treble frequencies that happens when you over cook the 'Process' control. Too much treble makes distortion sound fizzy. I think most people think that solid state distortion is more fizzy than valve - but it IS possible to EQ it back to a far nicer tone. Interestingly, to note the BBE gear - the 'low' control - or whatever it is called is ONLY a bass boost/cut at 50Hz. It performs no part of the maximiser's process. The treble frequencies that are affected are pretty high up the bass guitar range already - and thus I found that I didn't use mine for any more than EQing. A multiband compressor did a far better job of improving my bass tone. (Until such times as I discovered where the problems in my signal chain were and have been rectified.)
 6. Well, I guess SuperGlue is a suitable fix for the problem lol. SuperGlue was used in the errmmm Vietnam(?? not sure) War to glue soldier's open wounds back together! - I hope he is using the stuff which is safe for using on the skin!
 7. WoW!! The Green PRS is just beautiful!!
 8. BUMP for a new price £100 + P&P before the likes of ebay, where I'm sure the price is likely to go higher - This is a bargain and the stool is in excellent condition. No marks, scuffs or wear.
Just made some soundclips, not the most professional of recordings Bronco (only bass i have with rounds, which most use) > Bogdan > PC Mic in > Recordpad. Hard Clip = HC, Soft Clip = SC. I like the sound of the pedal too.
 10.
I've been working on something like this that may intrest you it's essentially a 7 - 15ish watt amp depending on what power amp valve you use in it (it's cathode bias so as long as it has the same pinout as a 6v6 / el34 / kt88 type valve it'll be fine to stick it in) which is ran into a dummy load, so you can either use it to power a speaker or as a distorted preamp which sounds mint and is quite flexible in terms of sounds. I think it'd be doable to get someone to build you one into a 1u rack case although you'd definatly have to run some fans full wack on it to stop the dummy load melting.
Hey!! Well, we must be on a similar wavelength! - I've been hoarding schematics diagrams of some well known preamps that I like the sound of. - I can myself build and put together such a preamp, given time and inclination - however - as I was hoping for something with MIDI implementation, it would have proved to be be a bit more of a head ache - hence my looking for the ADA or JMP-1. If that fails, then it will be the 'homebrew' route instead. It's a amzing when you start delving in to designs - how similar a lot of the most well known distortion circuits are! I used to own a Warwich Quadruplet preamp. It also features a small power amp section in to a dummy load to give a realistic 'powr amp' feel. It worked quite well and I think if you can get something together it'd be a great alternative to all the 'amp sims' on the market. go for it! - For now, I'm gonna keep my eyes open for a s/h midi pre. (At the right price!! the Triaxis is well over priced!)
 11. On my laptop I use Reaper (DAW) and create drum loops and tracks using Toontrack's Superior 2. Tere's nothing like having a great realistic drum sound to groove with. Maybe a bit fussy for simplicity - but it doesn't take long to set up a jam.
 12. Let us know how you get on and what kinda sounds you can coax from the rack - gnarly distorted bass tones etc?!
 13. Hey Steve mate! Yeah, thats a luverlee bass! mmmmm!!!!! Well done, I guess I'll need to pop round with tea and biccies soon to hear a bit of Ampeg abuse with your fine fine new acquisition yes? ;o)
 14.
Oh it was cheap as chips, I've not got my hands on it yet as it's being held hostage until Christmas since the parents paid for it. Like I said I'm only really using it to give my head a bit of dirt, it's been upgraded with a Mesa Boogie valve. Am I right in saying I can hook it up through the effects loop despite it having a valve pre-amp? The dropout isn't gonna be a problem cos I'll be using one effect all night
I am sure that you will be fine linking it up in the effects loop. The 9050S had seperate inputs for an 'instrument' input on the front and 'line level/ loop' input on the back. - I'm not sure if the 9150 does too - but the level controls will no doubt accomodate the different levels of the effects loop. Go for it! - If the input is a bit on the 'hot' side then you should be able to pull the input level down to stop it from overdriving too much, for example.
 15. Removed as not musically related. Cheeky!! lol lol
 16. I had the Zoom 9050S - it's a 1u half rack processor. The effects were brilliant and the SS distortions, although a bit 80's were useable and fun. The only problem I had with the Zoom was the patch change delay. It wasn't bad, but I am uber fussy and found the drop in signal as I changed patches was just annoying. I'm not sure how well these Zoom's fit a parallel effects loop, as this would cure the drop in signal - however you might then suffer from phasing issues due to the digital nature of the product (the time it takes to convert your analogue signal to digital, then process it, then convert it back to analogue again). That aside, Brian May used zoom effects (I think he uses TC Electronic now) - and his tone is Grrrrrrrrreat! I bet the unit is cheap as chips? I say go for it! - I read this post as I am eyeing up some of the older valve based effects units too at the moment!
 17.
OK so who's got the most rack-mounting gear?
Well, I'm down to 3u now, but I just had a think about rack gear that I own / have owned and it looks a bit like this:- Warwick Quadruplet Ampeg SVP (black face) Ampeg SVP (hammerite face) Ampeg SVP-BSP Ampeg SVT 2 Pro Trace Elliot V-Type ISP Beta preamp TC Electronic G-Force TC Electronic G-Major 2 TC Electronic Triple-C TC Electronic C300 Alesis 3630 Alesis DEQ-224 Line6 Bass POD Pro XT Powersoft D2004 Yamaha P5000 Yamaha P3500 (old style) BK 450W Power amp Marshall IBS 200W Head Marshall 9004 Preamp Marshall 8080 poweramp Marshall 9050?? 4u 50W+50W valve power amp Zoom 9050S effects rack Alesis Reverb thingy unit BBE 362 Sonic Maximiser Makes me wince a bit when I think of what I have spent and all of that gear has gone to a better place!!!
 18.
I know the feeling mate - most of our 'rehearsing and writing' sessions happen in Manchester - Distancewise (about 230-260 miles each way depending on route) , it's a bit of a b@ll@che as you can't just nip round for a cuppa and jam. Also a bit of a drive from sunny Norfolk, but I enjoy driving, so don't mind cracking out some metal in the car and chill out for the duration of the journey. That said, 2/5 of my band live in LA!!! We rehearse and write with those guys over the internet (at the moment). It take a bit to set up - but we use File sharing / Skype and other tools as we are primarily writing at the moment.
Being the geek I am Norfolk to LA>> Distance: 5435.3 miles!
 19.
i'm just starting to look around for some new projects but as is the norm its pretty dead round here so am thinking about looking a bit farther afield. only trouble is of course that means more travelling time/petrol etc to and from any rehearsals. i'm incredibly lazy and easily distracted so it'd have to be a very good band for me to travel any serious distance. so... how far do people here travel for rehearsals.... and does it rapidly get to be a chore?!! peace c
Hey dood, If you don't mind a guitarist's point of view give Dave Ray a shout - he has owned both in the past. We both loved the tones of the MP-1 back in the day but going back to it years later I think he found it somewhat lacking.
Cool! I'll give Dave a shout! Thanks chap! - There's a man with discerning guitar tone taste!
I used to use an ADA. I never really used the distortion stuff. I sold it way too cheap. I would take it back now. If you have any questions which I have not already proved that I cannot answer, fire away
It's all a bit of gass really. I have the most amazing deep, phat clean tone, however I am looking for a rack unit to slide in my spare 1u space in my rack to add some grunge, drive or all out nuclear assault. I've been listening to all sorts of demos on the web and you tube or set ups and have started narrowing down units that *might* be what I am looking for *before* I go down the custom route. My backline is akin to a top notch PA signal path - thus, i dont want to just stuff a distortion pedal in to the input - it doesnt sound good! my thoughts are either to model using my line 6 stuff - or get a decent guitar preamp with a 'cab sim' built in. I like this route better as my rig stays in the rack. The MIDI preamp route means that I also control everything with a single MIDI controller out front. My signal, as usual will be split so that the bottom end of the bass gets through so I lose no bottom when the drive kicks in. My other route, which I had thought about will be something like the Ampeg SVP-BSP - yes, thats right, the Billy Sheehan preamp that I bought and sold - funny how you end up panging for what you used to own!!! Grrrr - but I sold it as it didnt sound right with my old cabinets. If you have any comments, shoot them right back. Thanks! ;o)
 21.
Yup. That's how it started for me, too.
Yes, we both now go to weekly meetings to talk about it.. "Hullo, I'm dood - and I have... I .. I..." "It's ok, we're all friends here, take your time..." "uhhh.. I'm a rack gear fiend...." "Well done, you've taken the first step....."

Defintely! - The guy Bon Jovi have playing for them rates highly in the coolness factor for his rig! Though I can't seem to find any pics of his rig on stage.. I think it's something like 6 4.5XL cabs with luverlee shiny cones!
 23. Derek from Watford Valves always recommended Harma Diamond STR ECC83's and Jan Philips ECC82's for all my Ampeg gear. Gotta say, they are just awesome valves! Have a chat with Mr Rocco directly as he does know a bit about his valves too!
 24. p.s Paypal is fine, as is cheque and paying straight into my bank. Cheers.
