1. On my laptop I use Reaper (DAW) and create drum loops and tracks using Toontrack's Superior 2. Tere's nothing like having a great realistic drum sound to groove with. Maybe a bit fussy for simplicity - but it doesn't take long to set up a jam.
 2. Let us know how you get on and what kinda sounds you can coax from the rack - gnarly distorted bass tones etc?!
 3. Hey Steve mate! Yeah, thats a luverlee bass! mmmmm!!!!! Well done, I guess I'll need to pop round with tea and biccies soon to hear a bit of Ampeg abuse with your fine fine new acquisition yes? ;o)
 4.
Oh it was cheap as chips, I've not got my hands on it yet as it's being held hostage until Christmas since the parents paid for it. Like I said I'm only really using it to give my head a bit of dirt, it's been upgraded with a Mesa Boogie valve. Am I right in saying I can hook it up through the effects loop despite it having a valve pre-amp? The dropout isn't gonna be a problem cos I'll be using one effect all night
I am sure that you will be fine linking it up in the effects loop. The 9050S had seperate inputs for an 'instrument' input on the front and 'line level/ loop' input on the back. - I'm not sure if the 9150 does too - but the level controls will no doubt accomodate the different levels of the effects loop. Go for it! - If the input is a bit on the 'hot' side then you should be able to pull the input level down to stop it from overdriving too much, for example.
 5. Removed as not musically related. Cheeky!! lol lol
 6. I had the Zoom 9050S - it's a 1u half rack processor. The effects were brilliant and the SS distortions, although a bit 80's were useable and fun. The only problem I had with the Zoom was the patch change delay. It wasn't bad, but I am uber fussy and found the drop in signal as I changed patches was just annoying. I'm not sure how well these Zoom's fit a parallel effects loop, as this would cure the drop in signal - however you might then suffer from phasing issues due to the digital nature of the product (the time it takes to convert your analogue signal to digital, then process it, then convert it back to analogue again). That aside, Brian May used zoom effects (I think he uses TC Electronic now) - and his tone is Grrrrrrrrreat! I bet the unit is cheap as chips? I say go for it! - I read this post as I am eyeing up some of the older valve based effects units too at the moment!
 7.
OK so who's got the most rack-mounting gear?
Well, I'm down to 3u now, but I just had a think about rack gear that I own / have owned and it looks a bit like this:- Warwick Quadruplet Ampeg SVP (black face) Ampeg SVP (hammerite face) Ampeg SVP-BSP Ampeg SVT 2 Pro Trace Elliot V-Type ISP Beta preamp TC Electronic G-Force TC Electronic G-Major 2 TC Electronic Triple-C TC Electronic C300 Alesis 3630 Alesis DEQ-224 Line6 Bass POD Pro XT Powersoft D2004 Yamaha P5000 Yamaha P3500 (old style) BK 450W Power amp Marshall IBS 200W Head Marshall 9004 Preamp Marshall 8080 poweramp Marshall 9050?? 4u 50W+50W valve power amp Zoom 9050S effects rack Alesis Reverb thingy unit BBE 362 Sonic Maximiser Makes me wince a bit when I think of what I have spent and all of that gear has gone to a better place!!!
 8.
I know the feeling mate - most of our 'rehearsing and writing' sessions happen in Manchester - Distancewise (about 230-260 miles each way depending on route) , it's a bit of a b@ll@che as you can't just nip round for a cuppa and jam. Also a bit of a drive from sunny Norfolk, but I enjoy driving, so don't mind cracking out some metal in the car and chill out for the duration of the journey. That said, 2/5 of my band live in LA!!! We rehearse and write with those guys over the internet (at the moment). It take a bit to set up - but we use File sharing / Skype and other tools as we are primarily writing at the moment.
Being the geek I am Norfolk to LA>> Distance: 5435.3 miles!
 9.
i'm just starting to look around for some new projects but as is the norm its pretty dead round here so am thinking about looking a bit farther afield. only trouble is of course that means more travelling time/petrol etc to and from any rehearsals. i'm incredibly lazy and easily distracted so it'd have to be a very good band for me to travel any serious distance. so... how far do people here travel for rehearsals.... and does it rapidly get to be a chore?!! peace c
Hey dood, If you don't mind a guitarist's point of view give Dave Ray a shout - he has owned both in the past. We both loved the tones of the MP-1 back in the day but going back to it years later I think he found it somewhat lacking.
Cool! I'll give Dave a shout! Thanks chap! - There's a man with discerning guitar tone taste!
I used to use an ADA. I never really used the distortion stuff. I sold it way too cheap. I would take it back now. If you have any questions which I have not already proved that I cannot answer, fire away
It's all a bit of gass really. I have the most amazing deep, phat clean tone, however I am looking for a rack unit to slide in my spare 1u space in my rack to add some grunge, drive or all out nuclear assault. I've been listening to all sorts of demos on the web and you tube or set ups and have started narrowing down units that *might* be what I am looking for *before* I go down the custom route. My backline is akin to a top notch PA signal path - thus, i dont want to just stuff a distortion pedal in to the input - it doesnt sound good! my thoughts are either to model using my line 6 stuff - or get a decent guitar preamp with a 'cab sim' built in. I like this route better as my rig stays in the rack. The MIDI preamp route means that I also control everything with a single MIDI controller out front. My signal, as usual will be split so that the bottom end of the bass gets through so I lose no bottom when the drive kicks in. My other route, which I had thought about will be something like the Ampeg SVP-BSP - yes, thats right, the Billy Sheehan preamp that I bought and sold - funny how you end up panging for what you used to own!!! Grrrr - but I sold it as it didnt sound right with my old cabinets. If you have any comments, shoot them right back. Thanks! ;o)
 11.
Yup. That's how it started for me, too.
Yes, we both now go to weekly meetings to talk about it.. "Hullo, I'm dood - and I have... I .. I..." "It's ok, we're all friends here, take your time..." "uhhh.. I'm a rack gear fiend...." "Well done, you've taken the first step....."
I always thought hartke ali cones looked sharp.
Ahhh yes!! Defintely! - The guy Bon Jovi have playing for them rates highly in the coolness factor for his rig! Though I can't seem to find any pics of his rig on stage.. I think it's something like 6 4.5XL cabs with luverlee shiny cones!
 13. Derek from Watford Valves always recommended Harma Diamond STR ECC83's and Jan Philips ECC82's for all my Ampeg gear. Gotta say, they are just awesome valves! Have a chat with Mr Rocco directly as he does know a bit about his valves too!
 14. p.s Paypal is fine, as is cheque and paying straight into my bank. Cheers.
 15. Hi everyone!! This stool makes a perfect chair for practicing, sit down gigs - or indeed it's intentional use, one of the best drum thrones on the market. Read about it here:- http://www.pearleurope.com/ProductDetails....ctName=D-2000BR
D-2000BR The D-2000BR features our top of the line Roadster Throne with a revolutionary backrest. The backrest is fully height and fore/aft adjustable, lumbar back-support offering added relief from fatigue associated with long gigs or recording sessions. The slim tear-drop shape of the backrest gives outstanding support where needed and eliminates the chance of contact between the backrest and the player’s elbows. Two Position Seat: One side provides an angled front for free leg movement and a small recessed cavity toward the back to alleviate spinal compression. Rotate it 180 degrees and the other side offers firm frontal support with a central cutaway. Four Leg Base: The base features four wide-stance legs for superb stability. Sure Struts (parallel double braced struts) provide the ultimate in structural integrity to prevent lateral wobble and the inherent squeaks that may result from it.
I've only used the throne for practicing - or as a fold away chair for my laptop table. Never gigged, never left the house. Retail price is in the region of £180 (Andertons £160, Thomann £225) - and one went recently on ebay for £150 second hand. If you come and collect, I'll let this bargain go for £100. There is no wear on the feet or chair - infact - no marks at all!! Excellent condition! - This will be great for your drummer - I've already been told that these are sought after as a quality professional throne. I no longer require it and will be happy to pass it on to someone who will make great use of it! Cheers all, Dan
 16. Hey all! After watching too many You Tube videos I find myself gassing for a decent 'distortion preamp' - preferable MIDI controllable - there are ways around it if not MIDI as my effects unit has external controllers - but anyway, I digress. I'd originally kept an eye out for a Marshall JMP-1 - but having heard the likes of the Mesa Triaxis and ADA MP-1 - I like the more agressive tones they deal up. (That said - a JMP-1 w/tweaking could probably do similar). The Triaxis is just stupid money and is physically a very deep preamp. The ADA however, looks pretty good - and for guitar sounds lethal.. mm!!! I like. Anyaway, just looking for views and opinions. I'm gonna spend a bit of time looking through the threads at ADADEPOT too.
 17.
Why not just buy a multimeter? You can use them for 1000s of other things as well as testing batteries & a good basic one can be bought for less than a tenner.
I guess the reason is - that such a tool will be fine for those who neither know, or care what an Ampere is. They just want to know how much *ehem* 'power' is left in their battery. A meter showing them a percentage and time left will be more meaningful to them. Yep, I have a maplin one that I grabbed for a 5er that I chuck in my guitar box - and leave my expensive unit at home! I see the point over the 18v thing - I wonder if the unit can handle that?
 18. I reckon it's a useful piece of kit - just a shame that so many stupid people post comments on You Tube.
 19.
I have one of these: http://tpro.com/prods.php?prod=DA-B3000&am...SESSID=tbompxid Works fine and has proven to be reliable so far.
I think I'd probably go for one of these if I was looking for a power amp again. The 1u size is perfect - and having so much head room available is a dream. You probably won't get near the 3KW - but it's nice to know the amp is designed to be able to handle more power than you need. How's the 610 getting on Paul? ;o)
 20.
Yes, hurrah for our fearless leader Ped.
and our very own CrazyKiwi of course - whom makes up half of the dynamic duo known as *in a scary monster voice* Thheeeeeee Aaaaaaaaadmins...... ! Yup, I'm gonna add a +1 million. When I talk to people about being a moderator on a forum, I get all sorts of funny looks from them wondering why I would do it. - usually based on their own bad experiences of spending time on other forums with members who are unfriendly, unnapproachable and in some cases downright rude. There are even one or two forums with Bass sections, where the admins themselves are elitist and sh*tty towards people who don't use one of their own products - naming no names!! - I actually feel pretty good telling them that no, it's not at all like that here. Anyway, BassChat, you are feckin' awesome! I remember when I first signed up to Bassworld 1.0 back in the day it was a warm and friendly welcome then and that same 'open door' attitude and willingness to go out of the way to help each other makes me proud to be part of the community. So thank you everyone!
 21. How deep is the rack unit? I think it might hang out the back of a shallow rack - I'm intrigued to hear the range of sounds this unit can produce too.
I think thats true of the earlier amps up to what ended as Tech Soundsystems, but the Puma line is a completely different amp to what came before and have heard nothing negative about them so far. I still want a Puma 1000. Anyone selling ?
I'm not sure about the Tech gear, but I understand the PUMA amps use 'Powersoft' power amplifier modules - which are very highly regarded by PA designers and enthusiasts on the internet. Having owned one of the Powersoft rack amplifers, I can vouch for it's ability and quality of sound.
