Having said 'ta ta' to my sum total of cabinets, I decided to have a bit of a mooch around the wonderful world of backline. Now in my thought processes I still keep coming back to the same idea. I'm using my line 6 / outboard to produce the sounds of pretty much any amp/cab combination I want, which is great for flexibility - so when it comes to backline, all I really need is a glorified quality PA / studio monitor behind me. It reminded me that I used to own one of the wee little Accugroove cabs and liked it, but it wasn't really 'right' at the time. So what of the larger beasts, 'El Whappo' and 'Whappo Jr'.. I reckon they fell out of favour a bit after the 'Accu-Switch' debarckle - but are they still standing strong as a decent back line cabinet? - Obviously with a view to being able to reproduce a 'faithful' version of what is being sent to them, full range and decent bottom end? I have a feeling this thread will suffer the tumbleweed effect and thus alternative ideas are welcome. I'm waiting to have a play with the active cabs 'Vector Pro' by ISP Technologies and would LOVE to get hold of a Forge Bass cab to play with too - but I'm seeing Accu' prices have dropped now the current fads are taking over ;o)

I used to play the ''hook' synth and bass part from "Hard, Better, Faster, Stronger" with a synthy sound on my 6er. You need the high C for the last few notes.. but it sounds GREAT and you have to jump up the neck quickly to catch it on time.
Thats the late Allen Woody of the Allman Brothers and Goverment Mule. He had quite a collection.
I wonder, in my crazy world, if he was ever introduced to Woody Allen?

HELP! POD X3 Live - Problem when using with an amp
Dood replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
"Turn the output volume control ALL the way up for the best signal to noise ratio" (on the X3) - and don't forget that if the inputs you are using on the behringer are 'line' level, switch the output of the X3 to 'line' not 'amp'. You will get a very hot signal from the X3 (as long as your patches are configured correctly). Use the gain control on the behringer channel to reign in the signal if need be. If your signal is TOO hot and causing the input section of the behringer to distort (as opposed to making the output section of the X3 distort) then you may need to start pulling back the output of the X3 using the volume control. for info, I set the master volume control to *only* set the DI out put and have the 1/4" signal as strong as possible, especially if I have to use long cable runs. -
Is there a Big One doing the rounds at the moment Alex?
I think if you succeed you should make them for electronically underprivileged people like me
Hmmmmm, maybe I should have a dig around again! The idea was quite a good one, at least on paper!
Those would be actives... I used them too and they are quite good for the money. I assume he's looking for passives though - although I think those Wharfedales do come that way.
ah ok passive version then! lol http://www.andertons.co.uk/WharfedaleEVPS1...=GoogleShopping Cheers, Dood

Oh...ermm! I cant remember the model number, but Wharfedale do active wedges with 15" cones. They have an EQ on them as well and differnt types of inputs, such as line and Mic XLR. I plugged a bass directly into one a while back and I have to say the sounds was pretty damn good. The top end I liked as it was polite and didnt get irritating or fatiguing when playing a CD up loud. I would say, for the price they would be on my list if I needed wedges.
You described it just right clean tone, detailed and punchy. Its's a great combination of uncoloured gear it's all about the bass and the fingers or pick for that matter
I much prefer to use an uncoloured backline, (or at least - as uncoloured as possible - we're stil governed by the laws of physics lol) then use my other gear (preamp/sims etc) to do all the work. The set up thus sounds pretty great to me!

Off the back of posts like this, I'm going to build a line driver pedal that will allow the use of normal pedals like the M80 to be used as a preamp. (to boost & control the output up to the right levels to drive a power amp correctly) I've got all the bits, just a matter of getting round to it.. I've even come up with a cool valve version* * I expect a few to come up on the market now lol lol
Last time it was at a pub in nottingham. Worth going to, budgetbassist organised it as I recall. We should do it again really.
The first 'Bass Bash' get togethers took place in Northampton and were twice yearly. Unfortunately we haven't had one this year ( or the second one last year) which is a shame as they are a fantastic get together. More regional bashes have been put together as well and they are always a succcess. I'm sure this is down to the flippin great crowd we have here on BassChat. I am really looking forward to another one and it really is the only place to see, hear and try out gear you can only dream of seeing in your local music shop. There should be some bass bash pictures on BassChat somewhere! (Please.. none of me thanks...)

Oh and they're around the same price as a set of Elites/Rotos.....just take 3 weeks to get to you lol Good luck Si
And they are flippin nice strings too! Even the standard diamond set sound brilliant.
