4.
My wife caught me unawares earlier. Please excuse the mixture of sweat and mess
"Daddy and Baby doing well" ;o) Very nice indeed! Can't wait to see Minnie doing her cool thang!
  5.
I can't believe that this made it to the 2nd page of listings. That would never have happened with the original Doodle thread Any update from the man? I need you to put updates on here to stop me from pestering Jon about my own bass. I'm trying not to send him another email for a further month to let some progress be made. The wait is very difficult at the moment.
I know Pete! - Doodle was a mega thread - I was so excited to see so many hits on it! WOO! - Slightly depressing is the lack of stuff to show you guys! ( Jon emailed me before Christmas to say he was sending some pics over and then mid January to say the bass is 'coming along nicely'. I can only imagine how busy he must be as I have just one picture of baby doodle. (Page one I think). Ideally I would have loved to have seen more of the build, especially as I have had very little interaction with the process this time around. I know I can trust Jon, as he is basically building another 'Doodle' for me.. I was very specific about the ..err.. specifications! lol I haven't had a chance to check the body design or neck carve and don't really know in what state the bass is!!! GULP! I don't mind the wait, thats absolutely fine, as Jon is an incredible Luthier.. I suppose it's the fact that I live miles away and rely on him having a spare moment to pander to my needs lol!! I sent Jon another email yesterday.. hopefully he'll get back to me with some info!
  6.
Well as you know, I'm a big fan of controls that follow the edge of the body... so how's this? The cyrillic characters are supposed to be switches... they're the closest things I could find in Word...
I'm with Rich, I also love the controls following the curve of the bass. I like having the switches away from the playing deck.. Simply because I always hit them by mistake. It was bad enough having a pan control next to the volume for me!!! 'Doodle' and new baby Doodle (sorry, 'Sally' I believe, eh Rich lol) follow the same design. Steve, I like your second idea and your logical approach makes sense.
  7. My MIDI foot controller is also still available to go with this unit.
  8. There's some pretty amazing presets on it! And i have to say this is one of the few units whose factory presets start off good and don't need too much tweaking to sound good!
  9. Well knowing what the Hartke 4.5XL (it's closest Hartke equivalent) sounds like.. If nothing else, the Aluminium cones will be very pleasing tonally. I can't wait to try them. The 4.5XL is a real perfomer and can produce a clearer top end and deeper bottom than a lot of other cabs on the market. Now that the price of them has dropped considerably, they easily out perform similarly priced cabinets. I think I bought my first one when they were £700+ , now you can pick them up online for about £350.
  10. I'm having a great moment of madness, maybe a big mistake!!! lol
  11. Has a few scuffs and scratches, but nothing that looks too ugly, just wear and tear! Great piece of kit, really well designed for touring and road use. Is a perfect (and recommended by TC electronic) mate for my TC G-Force I have for sale here too! £100 + UK Delivery (£10) *New updated price... you can come and collect if need be*
  12. as used by the likes of Steve Vai, John Petrucci, Mark Tremonti et al.. http://www.tcelectronic.com/G-Force.asp Manual: http://www.tcelectronic.com/media/G-Force_US_net.pdf The GForce is one of the only effects processors on the market that allows for unlimited serial and parallel effects routing via an 8x8 matrix (an example is shown in the pics above.) It is worth taking a look at the website URL and the detailed manual to get an idea of the vast array of effects available from this professional unit. Comes with a memory card full of hundres of extra patches and presets, many by famous artists. These are £100 new. My unit has always been racked and therefore suffers a small amount of rack rash round the mounting screw holes. There are also sopme scratches on the outer case where it has been slid in and out of different positions depending on what gear I had purchased whilst owning it. Electronically, it is in perfect condition. I have run a self test status report on it and it passed easily. Full MIDI implementation makes it a PERFECT mate for my Roland FC200 foot controller, also advertised. Internet price guide for a new model looks to be around the £630 mark. Mine features the latest software updates and given it's good condition I have given a guide price with the Artist card. £400 + UK delivery (in the region of £20) A huge bargain to get the best effects rack out there.
  13.
+1 to recut, etc. 175 on a bass guitar? I can't imagine how that would look, let alone sound. I'll get me mum and dad's poker! HUGH
Here! Have a looksie! It's HUGE! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=137
  14.
Hey all, Also, I know its been discussed numerous times, but how would I go about tuning to low F#? I'm just not sure whether it would be a good idea, or of any use. I know its a simple case of buying heavyy strings, and then get the bass setup, but I'm very undecided! Matt
Tuning to Low F# would require getting your nut recut if you go for a heavier string. You may need to deal with the bridge height as well, as *most* very heavy gauge strings have a taper core.. and finally the intonation will need to be checked as well. You *may* need to get your neck relief checked over as well, if the string tension is affecting the neck at all. If you chose the right gauge of string for your scale length, you might not need to worry too much. With regard to those supplying F# strings, I get mine from Warwick. They do a massive 175 gauge string for that tuning. You will also be very happy to hear that Rotosound have just started doing a 175 gauge string as well. Last year, under endorsement, I asked them if they would make sets of 175's up for me.. and they said no, they didnt have the machines to do it.. Now whether or not they have gotten new machines or farm the wrok out, I don't know.. but I am tempted to give those strings a go and see how good they are! It's nice to see that more companies are addressing the need for heavier gauges and lower tunings.. it does make sourcing strings easier for the average Joe on the street! The Bass Centre have been looking after me for quite some time now and have been great, as were Rotosound.
  15. Guys, i'm not too chuffed with the way this thread has gone to be honest. Whether or not the OP was harsh, we are all meant to be chilled and at least *suggest* where the advert is going wrong. So I'm locking the advert. Please repost the advert and maybe we can all chill out yeah?
  16.
I had a Tobias Pro six string for quite a while, and had always intended upgrading the bits. The standard Mighty Mite pickups and guts were weedier than a very weedy thing. I replaced the internals with an EMG 3-band system which was very good, but never got round to doing the pickups. I needed EMG-40Ps but couldn't afford them I don't like Barts personally. A lot of it depends on the sound you want really. Bart pickups for example will give you a warmer tone than EMGs. The possibilities are wide. Is yours a 4, 5 or 6?
And I did the oppposite to Rich! I upgraded my Pro 6 to EMG 40P pups but never got round to doing the preamp. With ref to the stock pups and electronics, you will notice a great and very appealing difference to doing both. My personal preference is for EMG pups and I have never really gotten on with Barts.. When it comes to upgrades, there are so many combinations, we could discuss forever! The constraints you will have to overcome in one way or another is whether or not the pups and preamp fit correctly in the bass without having to hack it up. In short though, you'll be making a great bass better!
  17.
Played a session for a local folk band on Sunday, wasn't expection it but earned £20 for my troubles. I guess that officially makes me a pro! Well chuffed!!
Nice one dude!!!! And for anyone who doesn't know the area... getting proper session work around Norfolk is a bit like finding a unicorn....... that plays piano.... and talks .... and likes Metallica.... So good on ya chap! "You Hammett, I'll play it......."
  18.
Absolutely and utterly gorgeous and welcome to the Shuker Club's Maple Board Chapter
*Club member* ;o) Ahhh beautiful bass!!! Jon's SingleCut body design is in my eyes perfectly balanced and pleasing aesthetically and ergonomically. Another fine bass from the Shuker stable!
  19.
Hey Dood, No need for a standalone VST rack, you can simply use a laptop and an audio interface, such as the StealthPlug from IK Multimedia, wich is just a TRS-USB cable, and there are plenty of alternatives out there. As long as you dont mind carrying your laptop to the gig... This is what Im planning to do on an immediate future!
True, true.. I could use the UX2 I guess.. but patch changing options could be a problem, if you are into that kinda thing. I do need to change patches from 'dirty amp' sounds to clean hifi tones regularly. But for a 'quick fix' to getting the SVX live, your idea is perfect!
  20.
I use it as a VST plug-in quite a lot, but it totally sucks my processing power so sometimes I have to arse about bouncing down the bass track with the ampeg processed onto it, if you know what I mean. Does anyone else find this?
Blimey! Really? No, I haven't found that to be the case. I'd been using it with an XP Pro Pentium 4 HT with no issues and then on an XP Dual Core box with no probs. I havent got a new version that supports Vista yet, so can't try it on my 64bit OS.
  21. Dood

    Ampeg
Yup, but you'll be using an amp model as well as a cab model, rather than just as cab as per the OP. Out of interest, which combinations [in the plug in] work for you? I'm using the 4Pro and the 410 cab settings and it's fantastic.
I don't wanna railroad the OP... but I'm lovin SVX too, I prefer the SVT4 Pro and BLX(??) cabinet. I believe these are said to have more of a Hifi repsonse than the 8x10... Having said that, I was using the Line 6 Ampeg Stack model last night to record with.. and I'm *also* coming round to the Ampeg tone!!
  22. Ahhhh yes!!! The mighty SVX!! I have been using it for a while now.. and really love it that much, that I wanted to take it 'on the road' with me! But a standalone VST player in a rack is SO expensive, hence turning to the Line6 X3.. which I guess is the nearest thing to the SVX! I look forward to reading your complete review!! It looks great already!! AWESOME!!
  23. It doesn't have a line/ instrument level output switch like a BDDI, no.
  24. As has been said many-a-time already.. these tuners are absolutely awesome!! Can't see this fella lasting long! Great all the way down past low F#!
