lovely looking neck on that bass. I've never played a Shuker. Are they any good?
Thank you! Well.. ya know.. it was either a Shuker or a stick, some string and a cardboard box... but I didn't have the skills for the latter ;o) IMHO they are the best basses on the planet.
You'll be looking to offload that tatty old headed thing then? Swap for a Hohner mate?
Deal! is it one of those 'Steinberger' type ones? They're lovely! - he he he - I don't think I could even contemplate partling with my 7 string.. or indeed the Baby Doodle. I think I have arrived at bass Nirvana!
The bass looks great Dood, very elegant - I'm looking forward to seeing some outdoor pics.
Thank you! - I haven't been able to get out this week to take some pics, maybe this weekend.
Very cool and well worth the wait (and the teasing!)
OOoooh! wasn't it just! There were times when I was pulling at my hair hoping it would be ready. The last week was absolute madness! But the more I play it, the more it is totally untouchable by any other bass I have ever played. REALLY kicks ass!!!
I assume that this lovely weather we're having in Essex stretches as far as Norfolk? Where are the final pics ready to transfer this thread from the 'Build' to 'p0rn' forum? Dan, I hear from my buddies back in Norwich that you're playing in a covers band again. Have you got a link to your gig list? I will try to pop back up one weekend if you're playing The Brickies or somewhere similar.
Hi Pete, I'm afraid you've hear that news a bit too late! I have been concentrating solely on Within The Void and recently left the covers band I was playing in, now that the Void are getting busier with material. Thank you everyone for the kind messages. I am very excited about my new Bass! Yes, the weather up here is nice, mebbe get a bit of time later to get the camera out again! You really need to see the finish! I am defintely wanting to be at the next bass bash. Bass Day is on the cards too, where I will without a doubt be on the Shuker stand with both of my amazing basses. Jon has asked for some sound samples, so I will pull my finger out and do some new ones.. mebbe a little video and an update to my page on his website. I have also been playing some of the newest band material on my headless and have to say that it sounds awesome! I think, already I am a definte convertee to the world of headless! *thinks for a moment* hmmm.. headless 7 string??? NO DAN! ha ha ha Not really, I think I am going to be very happy with this pair! Expect pics soon, and thanks again. Dood.
Stunning Dood my friend, can't wait to see the photo's in the sun. Be good to get photo's of Baby Doodle, Blondie and CK''s headless together as well. Looks like Jon's done it again. He never fails. Superb. Just noticed the LEDs. Love em !
Thank you for the kind words John! Yes, that sounds like a great idea! I'm doing some proper photographs for Jon with both of my basses together, mebbe get them up on my page on Jon's website. I'd LOVE to get all three of our headless basses together. I think Jon would love some of those pics too! The LEDs were such a nice surprise! Really wasn't expecting that! - It's a nice simple design that has carried over both basses.. I guess this one is made to be noticed! lol ;o) Yeah, Love it!
The pictures below are a few that Jon sent me prior to collecting Baby Doodle. As you can see, even in these small pictures, the effect of the flip paint is fantastic. Jon has worked on producing some really sumptious curves all round the bass to make an ergonomic and aesthetically pleasing instrument. It is sooooo comfortable and effortless. Expect some more pics soon!
Actually, look at these pics close up to see the flip better, until I have got better ones together.

Hi guys!!! Well, I've had a mo' to get the camera out quickly! - I'm afraid the light was really bad, so the paint doesn't look as good as I would have liked to have shown you. Don't worry though, I'll be taking photographs of this one and my seven string together later in the week when it is sunny. The flip paint looks amazing in natural sun light. So, without furtha ahhh-doooo... Here is Baby Doodle! And for the surprise... I think I need to do a closer pic so it can be seen better, but I love it.. tastefully OTT YEAH!!

Hey everyone!!! Ok, got back late last night and had to be out again today, so as yet i haven't had a chance to get the camera out. We went up to Shukerland yesterday and had a fantastic day up at the workshop with Jon. I do indeed have my Baby Doodle in my grubby mits now. It is absolutely flawless. It is, without any shadow of doubt the best bass I have ever played or owned - and boy have I played a lot of amazing instruments. I can not put in to words how pleased I am! The finish, the build, the playability..everything! When I get a nice bit of weather outside I will take some pictures of both basses together for you all to see. Jon's surprise was totally worth waiting for and it is perfect!! I love it! - You'll see it soon! I can also confirm that no chisels slipped in the making of this amazing instrument! Sorry to keep you waiting a little longer!
Ampeg SVP pro preamp.
Yup, Also the BDDI or MXR M80 can add grit, but both are totally different from each other.. There's the Line 6 route with digital modelling to look at as well. Interestingly, a guy did some audio tracks on TalkBass a while back, one recorded with a Jazz bass w/flats into an all valve Ampeg setup .. and another with a modern active jazz into a line 6. Most people couldn't tell the difference between the two. Take from that what you will!
Quite obvious really... He's slipped with a chisel and there's no easy way for him to say that you'll be getting a bass with a big gouge in the front of it. Obviously waiting to tell you in person in the hope that you'll forgive and forget.

Dan, I have a feeling there will be a Tecamp 6x10 sitting in the corner of your room within a couple of years, next to those lovely Shukers.

Not thinking of yours Steve, unless it becomes available of course. Just have a feeling our Dood will be a TS owner again someday. Oh, and BUMP.
I can't really deny it! I love the Epifani, it's a great great cab, but the Tech cabs I sold had the edge, as I have always said. Having said that, I want to give Alex's cabs a go too. A pair of Big Ones could be fun!
Wow - you must be excited! Eude
I really can not begin to tell you how I am feeling!! (It's either excitement or the copious amounts of coffee I have just ingested) - Jon is still keeping the front of the bass secret from me! It's very exciting as he has done something a bit special for me! So, I am being teased too as I haven't seen any full pictures of the bass yet! I can't wait! I love the fact that Jon and I are totally in the 'same place' when it comes to what I really want from my bass. I know that I can trust him implicitly and that the bass will be right first time when I collect it on Saturday. I have been totally happy with letting him get on with the bass since 'first cut' and that our emails have covered every last inch of what I need from the instrument. As it happens, I was hoping to go up last week when Jon said the abss was pretty much ready. However, him being a perfectionist and him knowing me being a picky so-and-so he wanted to do some final fettling. I had a brief selfsih me-me moment as I wanted to go collect (lol lol) but Jon was totally right to want to make sure his basses leave when they are totally 1000% ready. Expect pictures sometime over the weekend!! This bass is going to be amazing!!!!!!!!!!
No worries, as i said, he sent me an update last night, thought it was a long shot anyway. Peace, Rob
Rob, I see you are in Manchester on your profile. I wondered if it'd be as easy to pop over and see him when he is in? Not that far right? Looks like I'll be up there saturday! Wooo! Dood. OOOOOHHH!!!!!!! More teasing!! Note the new flip paint finish!
Hi guys, I don't know what to choose. Soundtech pros: weight: 11kg less than the QSC space: 1U less than the QSC QSC pros: THE NAME: everybody says me that QSC is synonim of high quality the price: 80£ less than the Soundtech the power: the QSC can go bridged at 4 ohm, the Soundtech only at 8ohm I don't care about the power, I don't think I'm gonna need more than 400w. I care about the sound above all, and ,secondly, about the weight.. do you have any advice?
I'd have a look at the Yamaha P series, such as the P5000.. but the P3500 maybe better suited to you if you don't need the power. They are CRACKING amps with more functionality than both the units you mention above. Soundslive.co.uk used to do them, but I haven't checked recently. I chose the Yammy over the 2 you have noted and was very impressed. Dood.

Hi guys! On the POD XT (Pro) there is a default patch called something like CLASSIC ROCK which features the SVT and 810 combination. I'm after either the pacth program I can import into my X3L or the individual settings from each of the compnents that make up the sound.. EQ settings, mic type, position etc.. Can anyone help? Cheers!
How one plays the bass, or the degree of attack, has nothing to do with gender specificity. If you rephrased the question, it would better demonstrate that the real query is about dynamic control as a function of intensity of attack. Playing through inadequate ampage/too low volume and attacking the bass to be heard is NOT dynamic control. In this scenario there is effectively no means by which to create an effective dynamic range (using fingers). If you are digging in like an animal just to be heard, that's a function of inefficient integration of bass volume/tone in a band context and has no relevance to dynamics whatsoever. Playing with volume at an appropriate level whereby the bass can be heard with the lightest touch, affords a huge range of attack and dynamic control options. Regards AM
I was thinking about locking this thread on grounds of being ill thought out and sexist. However I think the OP can learn something from this reply. So, as I'm in such a good mood.. I'm gonna lock it now.

p.s. I'd like an SD1200 ;o)

Still, like I said in another thread, I bet it will be very popular in America.
I've been very impressed with Powersoft Amplifiers. I sold my 1u unit recently.
you know what? if I was a girl, I wouldn't feel ashamed of playing like a girl. with threads like this, is there any wonder that female bass players don't hang around the forum?
Absolutely +100. Maybe we could poll the female subscibers to see if they can make stupid comments like an ignorant male?
