  1. The point of balanced line transmission, or DI (XLR is the connector type) is to overcome both limitations of long cable runs and noise being picked up. Wireless would negate the point of DI in that case. Rather than use wireless, which I feel, to get the quality you’d want would be costly and hard to implement (due to environmental factors such as interference), I’d look at running inputs and outputs over Ultranet - for example, using an ultranet stage box - one cable to the XR18. But then, you may find that you still have to run all your instruments to that anyway and you’d not gain much by it.
  2. If you follow Julian Krause on YouTube, you’ll know that the Clarett range of Focusrite interfaces consistently rides the top end of the performance pile in all of his reviews. I’m looking to sell mine here so I can get another with more inputs (the 8 Pre as it happens). So, when that arrives and it all works, this one will be all ready to go. 3. I have PJBS’s too. I can tell you that the Wilkinson and the FB30 tuners do indeed drop straight in. I think Gotoh actually OEM’d the original tuners tbh! I can’t remember the weights but the Wilkinson tuners may have been a smidge heavier but when I got mine they were about £25 a set!! So, that was a little while ago. on the subject of the res-o-lites, I did ask Gotoh (or rather whine like a big baby) for them to make a version of the FB30, but they declined saying 5hey had no plans to, which is mad as I’d buy about 5 sets then and there, the 640 and the rest of the res-o-lite range are the best out there, I love them! Filling holes and re-drilling is dead easy, I’ve done a few guitars now with either cocktail sticks and wood glue or colour matched wood filler. i the the 640’s would look pretty nice on the PJBS headstock! I might end up seeking out another PJBS at some point, I think I’m getting a bit obsessed with them!
  4. Has anyone seen this bass on their travels? Last known location was that it could have been sold to a studio in Suffolk. Note the holes I drilled near the bridge for a thumb rest.
  5. I'm using the Mk1 still, it's brilliant, hasn't let me down at all! I do have the Super Pre too, which is the Mk2 architecture in a pedal preamplifer format.
  6. And a bump for you, I feel your pain.
  7. Awww thank you for the kind words . They are on my radar and I hope to get my paws on one soon for a full review! Great review @ead! It's funny you should mention EMGs as I have a J set here ready for a J bass. I'll do a comaprison video for those when I have a moment to set that up too.
  8. I'm glad you recommend them as I have indeed snapped them up for the same reason! Thank you! Glad I made the right choice! I also grabbed Coherence, DynEQ, MasterTool, Spikes, TotalEQ and VHS. Some I got free, probably through soemwhere like Bedroom Producers, others on the 90% deal. I've also just picked up some free Limiters, because for some unknwon reason I've decided that I need more - Yet Korneff's El Juan is just insane (I managed to snag that one free!) - So I'll post my finding when I get a chance.
  9. Their deals have had me buy a few of their plugins! They're not bad at all. Certainly can't gripe when they're just £5 when on sale sometimes!
  10. I hope that the receiving end of me asking if there's any wiggle room on the price has been received favourably. When I had money to burn, I didn't haggle at all, but alas after years of financial torment, I am hugely and warmly appreciative of the wonderful BassChatters who have offered a little discount. In return, I truly hope that everything I have sold has been below value (usually because items are in meticulous condition as I baby everything). 99% of the time it has been brilliant, though there's the odd BCer whose behaviour was far from community spirit and they have their cards marked.
  11. Awww, I love this bass! If anyone has any doubts whatsoever about the stunning, top-tier workmanship that comes out of the Shuker workshop, feel free to message me! Shuker really is up there with the very best the world has to offer. I will be buying another one day!

I love having a full range speaker solution behind me to get the clarity where it is needed, (top end and all-important upper mid range as wwell as deep lows!) so there's definitely options out there. I wondered if soemthing like this as an add-on might help? I've never reviewed one, so I have no experience of.

My immediate thought was this. Angling speakers towards your ears is the simplest solution. I just wish that all guitarists learned this sooner too. Often, with a speaker off-axis, the top end and upper mid-range (which bassists need for pitch definition) gets lost. Guitarists with cabinets sat on the floor poitning towards their knees will then crank up the treble and presence so it sounds nice and balanced where their ears are. The audience, being 'on axis' with the cabinet have to deal with razor sharp tinnitus inducing searing top end. So many issues could be solved if their speakers were on axis with their lug-oles!!
  14. As a teacher myself (and I say this with a huge respect to those I regard as my friends who do online lessons and courses only) I'd strongly suggest getting 1-2-1 lessons in the first instance with a really good, vibrant and well respected tutor ( if you can find one locally, that is!) Nothing beats being in front of an experienced teacher with proven knowledge, who loves what they do and is enthusiastic about making sure their students have the skills that they need and the bad habits they don't. And, that includes teaching a student skills in self-motivaton and how to learn learn for themselves. (I am sure I could have made more money if I left that out of my syllabus, but that's not who I am). I have had a student who came to me in the same position, wanting to get the solid foundations down with a view to moving to an online course later to suit their future budget and work hours. I have no issue with that and, it worked very well. He's pretty busy gigging these days!
  15. Yes, the Z series shape is much better. A subtle reshape and it looks less like a 4 year old drew it originally ha ha!! I think the Z7 looks like a great instrument. Looking forward to reviewing them.
  16. Following on from @Tim Chapple's superb Spotify Playlist of Basschatter's work, I thought I'd remind us all that there's this collaborative list floating about (I'll add it back to my signature soon) for a great bass line general resource! http://basschat.co.uk/topic/246416-spotify-best-bass-lines-evaaar-playlist-get-involved
  17. I've an EP with old band mate Andy James (Five Finger Death Punch) floating around somewhere that needs to be uploaded along with a couple of solo tracks I recorded with him.

  21. Thank you for the kind words!!
  22. I have two PJBS basses that I have modified, the third is still stock. I love these basses! They really are fantastic and, even better with custom electronics, they can really come to life if the onboard pre isn't your vibe. There are many drop in solutions, you're in luck! I am running an EMG active PJ set in both basses. They are currently tied to a 3 band preamplifier but they are a little different. The first bass is using the included pan control, the second I retained the three way switch set up that we'd have on the stock PJBS. It might seem an odd choice, but it was down to having the first bass refinished and I was in the lucky position of having the existing holes resized to suit the preamplifer I wanted to install, whereas the second I have had to stick with the current lay out. I did use a tool to very carefully widen the hole that had the (small) switch in so that the final control pot could fit in. You could do the same of course. So, I have, Master volume, Pan, Bass, Mid & Treble. The pan is a 'zero drop' type, so there's no change in volume in the 50/50 position. Bass number two doesn't have the pan as mention, I bought a high quality three way and installed that too. The current set up for both has a pull-up switch on the master volume to bypass the preamplifer, an alternative to using a separate toggle, but, a good suggestion for utilising the small hole without drilling. On the subject of EMG, they do offer a wide range of preamplifer configurations including two and three band types, stacked controls and even 'bass and treble on one pot' (EMG EXB) that could be a useful too. https://www.emgpickups.com/bass.html?cat=324
