  1. I am pretty sure I asked the same question ages ago but this bass also had a close spacing? I feel that it was a bass I wanted to buy possibly!!
  2. Not massively helpful as my own PJBS is heavily modified, but it does get used in many of my Bass gear reviews of which plenty are on YouTube as well. I’ll get you a playlist link later.
  3. Love this!!! The PJBS is by far my favourite Fender ever (even though I dearly love my 76 P) - Also cemented my love also for Japanese Fenders at the same time. I would dearly love to find a Fretless PJBS to complete my set of Power Jazzes!!
  4. I bought one to store a bass safely at home. It seems to be pretty good but it hasn’t left the house yet to see the rigours of the road. Nice and light and feels like the hard foam would provide protection from bashes and the like should it be regularly used for gigging. Often with cheaper cases I see stitching tearing away or zips breaking, so possibly something to look out for - but at £35, it wouldn’t be the end of the world if it only lasted a year, right?
  5. So, the ever present question: Do I sell all these bits of kit that I don't actually use anymore, or keep them on the off chance that a band (job) might require them in the future. I could do with the cash frankly, but the value of the kit could mean that if I buy again in the future, I could end up paying more in the long run. Hmmmmmm

I have come to the conclusion that the stuff we keep "in case" is 90% redundant. Whenever I do get called to do anything, as soon as I get jiggy with esoteric bits of kit I get a look from the producer or keys player that says "do what you do well and we will do all that fiddly stuff".

But which 10% is not redundant?

Need money + have gear not in use + gear is worth more money now than when you bought it = Sell it

My father has a barn full of just in case things. Hope I'm going to die before him... Don't want to move, sort or sell all these things...

I remember some years ago when I started buying all the good deals I was seeing. I ended up with my two cars garage full of boxes of high end hi-fi components, instruments and amps. Sold everything and made a lot of money as lots of these things were bought for peanuts.

If you don't use them, sell them and use the money for what you really need.

    Which Helix?

Re: OP, I started with the LT. I bought the HX Effects wanting to downsize but I ended up missing some of the features of the LT, so went back to the larger board and sold the HX Effects. The HX is absolutely superb as is the HX Stomp (which I feel would work well if you have other pedals you love but still want a smaller board.) I’ve owned a huge list of various rack and floor based processors over the last 25+ years or so and I have to say that I am most impressed with the Helix range.
  7. Ahhhhh yes! Top chap he is too!
  8. That is exactly my intention! I hope I meet everyone’s expectations! When I do gear reviews, it’s important to get the details of the actual product over as clearly as possible. However, when a product has a particular type of equaliser on board, well, I might not be able to spend an extra 20 minutes going in to detail for example, describing a Baxandall equaliser network. I do still have a limit to how much I can squeeze in to my column in BGM, but I will do my best to keep it relevant and useful! Questions and suggestions for future columns I am happy to receive and will respond when I can.
  9. Bless your heart! Very kind of you Boy did I need it this year!
  10. And well, I may as well continue my reign of terror in this thread by posting Shuker 7 string's little sister too:
  11. I've even found the original post: (Though it has become a little fragmented) Please also, if I may derail this thread temporarily, take a moment to remember "OldGit" Si Cox in the first picture. One of our very missed members of BassChat. RIP dude!
  12. Absolutely brilliant amplifier! Love these things!
  13. Yes! One of the first I thought of!!
  14. Here's a sticky from the Repairs And Technical forum in case anyone needs it..
  15. First comment on the above video... 😂🤣
  16. It has been played by an Orchestra too!
  17. Ah yes, excuse me, I just need to dive in to this telephone box to put my pants on outside my trousers! 😂😂😂😂😂
  18. Smile - Lily Allen. The same four notes throughout. See if you can find a song with a bass line with less notes in it!
  19. If you like WeTransfer, but need to send even bigger files, FileMail can - and so far it has worked very well for me - I haven't seen any adverse comments about the service.
  20. I once accidentally ruffled the feathers of a Canada goose, another occasion mildly agitated a miniature goat and on a family walk caused a horse to gallop off. The latter I am sure left uttering the words, "Jaco only needed..." We therefore changed the image to the current one.
  21. I will certainly be taking "questions from the floor" (a topical phrase right now in politics!) so depending on what we do next after these set of columns, "real world" problems will certainly be something to cover! Sorry about that! But you do get to see my little face in the corner of the page each month ha ha!! YES YES YES YES YES!!!! Its business as usual at Guitar Interactive doing video reviews too! I was told a while ago that "Dood" in Dutch means "death". I hope that my columns won't be the "kiss of" as it were!!! ha ha ha ha!! I suspect sir, we would have to have a game of 'Muskets At Dawn' over that! Though I suspect we would be playing Eric Cartman's rules of Roshambo in the absence of old school weaponry. I really would like a rather nice fretless too!
  22. Not yet, but I will work on it!!!
  23. At the risk of sounding like blowing ones own on the most popular of bass forums, I bring you some news (which means a great, great deal to me) that I hope you will be pleased to read. I am super happy to have been invited on board and have joined the brilliant team over at Bass Guitar Magazine. To begin with I will be bringing you a column each month best described by BGM's editor in a recent social media post: "At the recent UK Guitar Show, a reader of Bass Guitar mag suggested that I run a monthly column devoted to solving bass players' problems, gear-related rather than connected to personal grooming or relationships, I should add. "A capital idea!" I said, and pondered who the right hack would be. Ideally someone who knows bass gear inside out, is an experienced writer, has the right facial hair and whose picture in the mag won't scare cows at 100 paces. I'm delighted to announce that the great Dan Veall is the chap who got the gig: you can read his first column on 10 Dec in Bass Guitar and 24 Dec in Bass Player. Round of applause for new bug Dan, team! "
  24. Affectionately named "Sally" by @Rich, this is my Shuker Guitars custom six string, enjoying over ten years constant service. I adore this bass! It has had a facelift and a fair amount of tweaking, but this one is always a joy to play. Other than my other Shuker bass I have, there are no basses that I have owned for so long. Insanely nice instruments and this one (and the other) are going no where!
