Are Beaters the Weights on Ronaldo’s Ankles?
Dood replied to DoubleOhStephan's topic in General Discussion
I still have my Marlin Sidewinder. It was a P/HB and the neck is a skinny jazz neck. Yes, the body was ply and I upgraded the pickups, but I guess I got lucky, it was actually quite a good player after I set it up properly (I was 13!) -

Well, there's a bit more to a learner-beater than high action as you have mentioned - so, it could be possible that the action alone was enough to provide additional exercise for the muscles, but bad necks, rough fret work, poor tone, boat-anchor weight and general unplayability I would say in my experience as a teacher is an impedance to progress. Students have actually said they would have given up a long time ago if they had to carry on playing the "examples" they were told to endure at school. That said, there is no doubt that after playing my high action bass for a week teaching, my gig bass feels like it has guitar strings on in comparison. Both basses are decent tools though. -

I appreciate it's another expense, but for those who really want to angle the cabinet further upwards, a flip out kick stand as an added option?
-
Make the input socket a combo XLR / 1/4" and have the gain control (volume) take in to consideration the live difference between line and instrument. - Thus, folk can feed the active cabinet with either Mic or Line level via XLR Balanced or Instrument / Line level via the 1/4" Unbalanced. This would cover all possibilities coming out of preamp pedals or mixing desks.

For (good) reviewers there's a balance to try to meet. It's like, "one person trying to please the needs of 10's of thousands of viewers." I do try to meet certain criteria every single review, I do - but you know, sometimes after recording probably over 300 videos, I slip off-piste sometimes ha ha. Hopefully not to the detriment of review quality!

I have had two of these (one in each size) and as yet they have proved durable: VonHaus Tablet Mount Clamp... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00N7FR3AK?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share The larger model fits my iPad Pro 10.5 with a leather case on and the smaller version fitted my old iPad Mini also with its case on. hopefully this is the link for the smaller version: VonHaus Black Mount Clamp for... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00N7G4YQ0?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share I prefer using these rather than taking a whole stand as I can either clamp it to a Mic stand or fix it to my little stand that holds my IEM mixer etc.

Sadly I didn't see the post in question hence my question. A shame if that's the case. - Yeah you are quite right, JH "can't" sue anyone, but it didn't stop him waiving his will(y) around on BassChat threatening all sorts. Some may say he is well within his rights to protect the brand of course..

Weird stuff also happens in my phone too. ^^^^ like this - I want to add another post on my iPhone and I can’t delete the previous post because it seems to have auto quoted me. Really frustrating.

Maybe John Hall threw his toys out of the pram and threatened legal action like he did here on BassChat. Which is why the mods here have very specific rules regarding Rickenbacker?

I've only played the prototype DBird, but I recall the balance was perfect. Zero nose dive. Interestingly, the original prototype wiring was influenced by my own rewiring shenanigans of my Flip-Paint AB1. Thats was quite a nice thing to hear from Sheldon at the time. I'm not sure what the production model configuration is, I'll have to look. Or better still, just ask the owner of this sweet looking machine!!- 33 replies

It's worth noting that the reading you are taking is DC resistance in Ohms of the coil(s), it is not a reading of output power. If it sounds good, then it is good.
-
That's interesting - and, listening to this SD shoot out, it's certainly a nice sounding pickup: (There's an Mic'd Amp version to listen to, but I went with the DI only video)
-
Lots wrong with this video review but the 62 pickup does sound really good:

I once watched Chad Smith and Glenn Hughes performing together at a Chad Smith drum clinic. They played, amongst other tracks, “Mistreated”. With Hughes’ incredible vocals, you’d be forgiven for forgetting that the rest of the instruments were missing from the song. A very powerful performance and a lesson in how the rhythm section can carry a song on its own. Afterward, I ended up invited back to the hotel where Glenn quizzed me on bass gear choices whilst Chad was very much the life of the party.

I'd be interested in this too actually! I'd guess at what I suppose is the '62 (as in, the reissue pickup you can buy from Fender) but I don't know for sure.

Goodness me Andy, my wallet has just ran off and taken cover.. I'm enjoying this build!

Alex is a recommended marketplace user on BassChat and I can only add my thumbs up once again. Thanks so much Alex.
