😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 bRiLLiAnT mate!! #TalentAndYearsOfExperienceNotNeeded 🤣

Ok, I’m game. I’ll pick a product that’s suitable and we’ll have a lil play 😊
-
Yes, There’s a balance to be had and, delivering enough differing styles and techniques that clearly demonstrate what an instrument is capable of is completely achievable without making it all about oneself, unless of course, that is entirely the intention 😁. That said, you could argue that I have shot myself in the foot by intentionally under playing as it is now expected that videos should be a massive w@nkfest 😂🤣 for likes 👍, thus making me look less of a capable player.

I meant to quote your post in my reply above.

Absolutely! I've been researching AI modelled review writing to test it. I can spot the language modelling too, I agree with your summing up of it. If you know what you are doing, some well written prompts can point it in the right direction, even feeding it with years of well written human copy would get you closer - but they all (at the moment) miss the nuances and technical experience that someone who has obsessively been following bass for over thirty five years has.

Bass Gear Magazine used to be both but it moved to online. It also doesn't use a 'magazine reader' app, so all the usual search and linking 'stuff' works rather than having to sign in all the time. Whether or not the magazine will go physical again, I don't know, but since January lots of work has taken place on the magazine in a major refresh, which is brilliant.

I received a message the other day telling me that they had subscribed and were looking forward to reading my articles again. I had to explain that I actually write and video review for the free to read / subscribe to Bass Gear Magazine. Obviously, at the risk of this post sounding like a railroad, I do wish this new venture good will and that they are only experiencing a temporary glitch. Bit concerned about A.I articles though, is it looking like that? I’ve not seen the mag.

Nailed it. As much as I love and very much approve of the truly epic levels of talent out in internet world pushing the very boundaries of what we can expect from strings stretched over lengths of wood.. a gear review should not be about the player. I’ve always likened it to watching the kurogo in bunraku. Japanese puppetry masters would wear black to help them disappear and not be the focus of attention. I think “influencers” (especially when it comes to seeking validation from the internet) find it incredibly difficult to set ego aside and let the equipment sell itself. I’ve always said my reviews I shoot are No Ego, No Shred, Just Bass. I should probably start hash tagging that!

The bass model design that You hate with passion.

Another vote for headstocks here too. Most bodies are fine and it looks like thought went in to the designs generally (if they're not just a usual straight copy of the most well knowns). Headstocks though... Often it looks like the design department had a parent & child day with the crayons out. -
You’ll be pleased to hear I have taken delivery of the latest version with the on board transformer balanced line out. It will be getting my usual in-depth review very soon, you’re in for a treat!

Thank you for the information! Yeh, in all honesty, the finish is my least favourite part, though the grain on mine seems to be attractive. I do want to get my bass refinished in my favourite paint job though, maybe I'll do that one day!

After the great cull of yesteryear where I was forced to sell some of my beloved and prized instruments, I tried to find a solid bargain on the 5 string front. Shopping list: An insane B string, 35" scale. close string spacing, quality neck through, light weight, well balanced... eveything you can't get on a £250 bass together! Well, so I thought. It took a little (nerd level) investigation to find an instrument that had been staring me in the face for over 20? years. The Peavey Cirrus is a bangin' bass! I'd love a USA model but I picked up a (specifically) Indonesian made BXP from, hmm, 2000's? It seems to be an unusually good example, very light and well looked after. A secondhand eBay 'sight unseen' purchase that I wondered if I may regret but lucked out; ended up talking tech metal and prog with the seller for a day or so after! Nice guy!! The only thing I have done with it so far is to ditch the standard tuners and drop in a set of absolutely amazing Gotoh GB350 ResOLites. The VFL pickups can stay, but I think the preamp will have to go. I recently reviewed the Barefaced Big Twin III with it (video on it's way soon!!) and the sounds is fantastic. Maybe I just lucked out on a really good example. I then picked up another to use as a spare for gigs which, although another Indonesian, isn't the same. Its heavier and has a chunkier neck. Still worth the silly money for what is otherwise a cracking deal.

Definitely in my top ten amps that one. Congrats!
-
Thank you!! Can't complain at that price!
-
Have a scroll through my YouTube playlist of my video reviews, there's a few amps in there! I also need to update this basschat thread with list of all of my reviews. From memory I have video reviewed EBS, Ampeg, Genzler, Aguilar, Peavey, Trace Elliot, TC Electronic, EA, Ashdown, Orange.. probably plenty more ha ha!!
-
And I've just seen a 752 for sale too!
-
If you like the clean punch of the EBS gear (I do) - there's a Reidmar 750 in the For Sale section. A very worthy beast that stays clean way past annoying the guitarists, but has a drive section on board should you wish to add a hair of grit. Compressor and pre-shape for a wide range of tones.

Sorry for the delay in that! I have the bass here, but I've been snowed under with other reviews and poor health. I'm really looking forward to doing this one, it's certainly going to look bangin' in glorious 4K! - It's only a shame that YouTube compresses the poop out of my original footage which looks even better! I'll keep you all posted! I have some super nice gear lined up for upcoming reviews! I love this job SO much!!!! Dan

I've had a flawless and very pleasant sale interaction with Ru. An absolute gentleman who has taken safe delivery of his new cabinets. Cheers @Ruairidh! Best wishes! Dan

Don’t put it on a ship to save money. You’ll receive a banana instead.

Absolutely there were non-mass produced 5 strings (and six - Anthony Jackson's 1975 Carl Thompson made Contrabass for example)) available before the Yamaha. The Overwater would have been a super nice bass as they are today, did you keep any pictures of it?
