  1. I've been following Blu for a long while, a good few years. We were asked what upcoming bassists should get a Bass Player Magazine feature way back and Blu got a front cover piece, deservingly. Other than being a great song writer for her genre, Blu definitely knows how to craft an inspired bass line, citing James Jamerson and other calssic bassists as an influence. So, gets my vote. I'd like a nice jazz bass and this one would be quite close to my penchant for shiny finishes ha ha!!
  2. lol, sorry! Mine is a heavy and dense Northern Ash body though, well known for being akin to Thor's Mjölnir (I had to look that up lol..)
  3. My '76 is a proper boat anchor weighing in at 10lbs, but OMG, it sounds SO good! It doesn't need an amp to deliver heft!
  4. A wonderful cabinet, its an HDN212 which has neodymium speakers. The HD212 was a much older cabinet with ceramic drivers and a different tone. (I actually love the HD's which brought me to your post.) Here's the specs for you HDN212 Woofer: 2-12” Neodymium Magnet Woofers Tweeter: High Intelligibility HDN Series Tweeter Cabinet Design: Ported Cabinet Material: Lightweight Italian Poplar w/ Baltic birch baffle Cabinet Covering: Black Bronco Tolex Impedance: 4-ohms Power Handling: 700W RMS Crossover: Custom Phase-Coherent Crossover w/ Tweeter Control Frequency Response: 40hZ – 12kHz Sensitivity: 104db @ 2.83v / 1-meter Dimensions: 31”H x 18-1/2”W x 15”D Weight: 47 Lbs.
  5. There's also the linked forum, I suspect there will be a few informed peeps available to comment! https://www.tokaiforum.com
  6. There's some useful information here, https://www.tokairegistry.com/tokai-info/tokai-fender.html https://www.tokairegistry.com/tokai-info/tokai-catalogs.html but, certainly with my bass, visual clues such as headstock shape and the logo on it told me more about the year it was 'born'. Mine I beleive is a 1981. So maybe some pictures will help here
  7. https://www.noisyhammer.com Might be able to help. They have refinished and done custom work for Steve Vai and The Darkness. They’re local to me.
  8. Actually, that’s not a bad idea! I was once gifted a Lego ‘Dood’. I might add him to all of my sale posts too. (The likeness is uncanny 🤦🏻😂 )
  9. Yeah, there's a few things I know about the topology already - the valve preamp' isnt anything unusual and the BBE circuit is well documented on the interwebs too. But yeah, I agree, if it turn out not to be obvious PSU issue related, I'll have the board out. It's just time I need that would be saved with a schematic.
  10. Thank you!
  11. I've not had time to open it up yet as I have been catching up with a whole pile of magazine video reviews I am editing up. Some pretty nice pieces of kit to show off! When I do get time I'll start isolating sections and testing - I've not checked for any signs of life yet.
  12. Good morning 'Chatters! I have been kindly gifted a dead BBE BMAX-T for the benefit of schematic study and to reignite my love for electronics that has been somewhat dormant for years. However, I was sure that I did have copies of the various revisions of BMAX-T schematic diagrams to aid me. It appears that I don't anymore and BBE's email addresses just bounce and there doesn't apear to be any way of contacting a service centre.. better still, WHO to contact! So, asking my fellow electronics nerds: Does anyone have any schematic diagrams for the BBE Max-T? I'd even take diagrams of the solid state version as well, because that's all interesting stuff to me. Thank you in advance!
  13. Wow spooky, I was only thinking about this very post the other day when having a discussion about over-excursion and the like!
  14. Maybe one of our super artistic types on basschat could make a printable card with the BassChat logo and username printed. Like a trade show name tag / ID / Business card design? Oh and maybe a QR code to take the reader straight to BassChat / the user?
  15. I've used Direct Courier Solutions in the past, that seem to be a similar service to Overland, using 3rd party couriers. It seems to me that most commercial couriers such as the above are more slippery than a lubed eel when it comes to trying to get their 'promises' to stick. "Oh, you were supposed to read the 3rd Party's T&C's! Not ours!"
  16. Expect a review of the new Haunted Moss 4 LX neckthru soon….. 😉
  17. The 802 is an extraordinary beast for sure! How about a TD650 / TD660? The Hartke thing will work very well either with the Reidmar head or the EBS Microbass, I’m sure.
  18. Yes and no, it depends on what is being plugged in. If you set the EQ “flat” - iirc is 2-10-2? Then you have a clean power amp with some extra level matching capabilities. The great thing about the LH amplifiers is that the master volume control is actually more like the gain control on a non-master volume amplifier. Go straight in to the “passive” input and wind the level up to taste, lots of clean power on tap. A good quality super low noise drive tested valve with lots of headroom is a nice upgrade too.
  19. I was sure I rememebr reading a Trace Elliot manual that said as much many years ago (which is interesting as I have never owned a TE 12 band) I have found it on page 8 of a TE manual for the 12 band range:- "Do not use excessive bottom ( 30 to 40Hz ) boost on the graphic unless your speakers can handle it. Very few speaker systems are capable of handling frequencies as low as 30 and 40Hz with any degree of efficiency. N.B. Boosting at 30Hz for instance will not add to the perceived amount of bottom end in the sound, it will only make your speakers flap to no useful effect. In fact boosting at 100Hz or 180Hz will have the apparent effect of adding far more bottom end than boosting at 30, 40 or even 60Hz. Do not use excessive top ( 10 to 15kHz ) boost, this will add mostly hiss to the sound as there is very little signal output at this frequency from a bass. The 30Hz slider has been provided to allow precise tailoring at very low frequencies. This slider should be used to CUT ( not Boost ) the 30Hz to a level that allows the speaker system to work at its maximum efficiency."
  20. I use Waves Clarity VX and Izotope's RX Essentials. These are the budget options of their bigger plugin suites. I don't think I ever even paid full price for these either - you may as well buy the whole Izotope Essentials Suite that includes a whole bunch of plugins that I use all the time. I produce videos professionally and between these plugins they cover pretty much all bases, but, as mentioned above, they can't perform miracles. As the ole addage goes, "SISO"... or, "you can't polish a turd". I'll have to try out Spectral Layers, that sounds really good, though I suspect it will have a lot in commin with RX which is no doubt Steiberg's competitor in the noise-management market!
  21. I think I've reached that, "I've got all this stuff that isn't gonna ever get used" state. Projects that will never see the light of day.

Some of it is worth selling, some may as well see the bin.
I think I could do with a cathartic gear purge to clear the decks both physically and psychologically.

The problem for most of us in this situation is that there are so many of us on BC in the same situation...hard to sell to others who already have too much quality gear...

Your solemn duty is to pass it on to the other hoarders here!

  22. No problem! Good question, I think you can just order them as Alnico PJ and yes, I beleive it woulkd be a PA and LJA, that would make most sense. Hmm, maybe a Pa and LJ combination would also be fun, it would give the J a bit more oomph whilst the PA would sound more traditional. Now I'm thinking about this a bit too much ha ha!! It might be worth asking EMG if its still ok to use a passive tone with the PJAX if that's what you want specifically? I can't imagine it wouldn't. Having the VLPF wouldn;t limit you from using the other preamplifier options, you could leave it out altogether and install an active pre instead - the whole thing pops together with quick connect installation that makes it (within reason) easy to customise. You could replace the pan control with a three way switch, add the EXB or VMC, plenty of options to play around with! I think the PJBS is an absolute gem of a bass. I got my first one when they were massively out of fashion, for £200! I'd grab another before the prices go too bonkers as I really want a 70's jazz tone combination out of one!
