  1. Don't assume that a quiet pickup is a poor pickup Some pickups are overwound to get the mid range louder so the pickup on the whole will be perceived as having a greater output. For a vintage vibe, AlNiCo 3 pickups will have a much lower output but a sweeter tone. I think that the SBP-2 has a lower output than the SPB-3, but the latter has a more scooped sound in the mid range (Would need to be corrected there) - Steve has used both in his signature basses but the SPB-2 is his current model.. again would need confirmation there. Trust your ears and if you need more level, use the gain control on your amp
  2. The Positive Grid Bias Amp Mini was thrust in to my lap last week. It (Or the BIAS AMP) would appear to be pretty much the ultimate 'dirt channel(s)' amp in terms of tonal variations. I'm pretty sure the Darkglass amp will get a big thumbs up. Generally speaking I am let down by amp 'dirt channels' as I am really fussy and look for a specific sort of dirt in my sound. I'm leaning towards keeping my amp clean and using pedals instead so I may not be as helpful as those who use dirt on their amps all the time.
  3. Sudden urge to own a tonehammer.

      Gotcha!

Funnily enough the Magellan adds a bump to the lower mids too as well as cutting the extreme high and low frequencies to make a thick, smooth mid rich valve like drive that works brilliantly in the mix, better than any other drive that I've tried (of which there are many!). It's perfect for Motown and dad rock stuff although I often leave it on for the whole set, everything from Andy Williams to the Foo Fighters

Never had a chance to gig the Tone Hammer, unfortunately.

Presumably a Tonehammer 'nails' the sound you are after...

      I'll get me 🧥

The AGS button will convert the gain dial to a drive control. Sensitive though. Past 9:00 gets too grindy for my ear. Mid controls also affect AGS output. I'm running mine at 7:00 and it's just right for me.

I guess yes! I should probably get on and try it myself ha ha!

I let you down badly the last time I tried to find time to do samples for you! (Still sorry even now) - but if I do get a moment I will see what I can do. though I will add that I'm not usually a synth pedal guy. If anything it's something I need to spend more time working on! Thank you for the Valeton suggestion. Yeah that sounds really good!

@Muppet Yup, the three band comp is very, very good when tweaked just right. (Wouldn't hurt to have some reduction meters added) - and the one thing I would want most is a wet/dry mix on it too because I adore parallel compression. (It's why TC's Spectracomp and Hypergravity, Nova Dynamics and C300 are pretty much my favourite compressors... and the SD Studio Bass, that's ace too. I might buy another!)
  7. Odd time signatures counted in 8th or 16th notes are Ve-Ry-Diff-I-Cult (5's) or Ve-Ry-Ve-Ry-Diff-I-Cult. (7's) - This works well with 2-3 and 2-2-3 groupings.

Ace thank you!! Though you may regret offering lol
  9. What? How? Lol!
  10. Yeah that looks pretty tasty actually! I think for me it has to be the 'right' tort. Too orangey our light red doesn't look good to me. I do like the dark brown and the red you have. Especially that satin/worn look rather than brand new and shiny! Now, where's my spare plate gone I can try out again heh!

Having owned (much like many other BCers) a wide range of line 6 models right from the original Red Bean, I wholeheartedly agree Helix is a huge step forward. A great piece of kit!
  12. Not that helpful, but I try to keep them wiped down in between performances or, in between songs if it's a particular 'hot' evening. When they sound dull, I ditch them! I suppose there's the option of coated strings to extend tonal life. I should give those a go again as I've been gigging so much recently, the strings are naturally getting used way more.

Thank you! You mention parallel paths above. Does this mean that you can have either multiple parallel paths in your signal chain, or have multiple effects in a parallel path?

Thing is, with HX, I really want to understand the signal path better verses the Full Fat version so I can see how well it would integrate in to what I am doing at the moment.

It was £425 when I looked this am and I've not been to the GG page before. Hmmm.. I really don't need an HX....
  16. Positive Grid BIAS AMP BASS (Mini) has just arrived on my doorstep ready for a review next week.

      Hahahahaha!

Smileys and emojis are reminiscent of school when girls used to put little love hearts over their "i"s instead of dots.  They're meaningless to people like me.

The internet probably isn't the best place to hang out if Smileys, Emoji's and digital aren't your thing. 🤣

  17. I have this album on vinyl! I found it as a teen and, well.. I keep it very safe, all wrapped up! A prized album for me.
  18. No, I know. The Gibson vs Ibanez headstock suit was in ‘77 and although I don’t think they settled in court, it was certainly another entry that adds to the “Law Suit Era” story.
  19. ‘Law Suit Era’. Better?? 😂
  20. The Nexus Tube head I recall was superb! Heavy, just like an SVT II or Mesa 400, but easily as lovely sounding! I also really liked the SL and SLS amplifiers and combos which have a pleasing tone and some clever features on board. 👍
  21. https://www.rcf.it/en_US/products/product-detail/nx-45-a/291491 RCF 745 in a less ugly box. I suspect the answer is no, but is there even the remotest chance that anyone has actually tried one? Literally zero video reviews!
  22. Would love to go to that.. sadly I wasn't aware of it.
  23. Sure, ok! For some reason I couldn't seem to get a sharp image on my profile picture.
  24. Me either! Just brilliant.
  25. That's odd. - I thought that would be big news. There seems to be an absence of a certain ornithological piece. A headline regarding mass awareness of a certain avian variety....
