  1. Anyone? Lakland pickups about to go in. 4 knobs. No switches/toggles, so no tapping or mid selector available other than a knob push/pull I would definitely prefer a 3-band to a 2-band, buuuuuuut open to the idea of the 2-band. 1st prize is a 4-band East.... But the idea of a sweepable mid is a huge draw (my old Ibanez BTBs basses spring to mibd) No rush to buy, just need something to aim for. Thank you in advance
  2. Anyone? Or is this in the wrong forum?
  3. Hello all, So, I'm looking to fit a pair of Lakland pickups (jazz/humbucker config) into a Cort GB-75JH. Originally I'd say this would be fairly straightforward, but a. I'm a bit of a dunce where electronics are concerned and b. the following email from Brian at Lakland has me flummoxed. *** In our factory configuration, the MM pickup sends its red and black wires to the 3 way coil tap switch. FYI - please be aware both the neck and bridge pickup are humbuckers. There are 2 coils side by side in the neck and 4 (2 in front and 2 in back) in the bridge. The coil tap switch determines which of the 4 coils in the MM pickup are switched On at any given time. *** The attached PDF from Cort shows how the JJ version of this bass is wired (I can'#t find one for my bass sadly)... This image from Lakland shows their wiring. The Lakland J pickup has red and black wires, and the H pickup has those, as well as a green wire. I've included a few pictures of the cavity. It's nearly bundled and I struggled to get enough detail, but there is clearly no green wire. My understanding crashes here. Has anyone ever wired Lakland pickups before and/or knows enough to guide me here? My thanks in advance all. Julian... The pots from left to right: Volume, Blend, Bass, Treble GB75JJ.pdf
  4. I've owned an Aguilar Tone Hammer preamp pedal before and it was terrific. What worries me is trying, with my criticality limited knowledge of such things, is how to connect the dinky black box with the wires to the pots, and moreover, I'll need to get new pots to cater for the mid and stacked bass/treble config. Any takers for Bartolini?
  5. Great bass and rig. Damn, jealousy is setting in here...
  6. Ah, sorry, I didn't mention that. The bass has 4 holes. Most preamp manufacturers have 4 knob options thankfully. Sound is such a fluctuating issue for me. Inasmuch as I've always loved that dry-as-a-bone tone, a la Janek Gwizdala and Matt Garrison, I now only play in function bands, so it's more of the deep bottom, well rounded sound. Mike Porcaro with Toto, Pino with John Mayer, Lee Sklar with, well, just about everyone. I'm not a fan of the top end, I prefer the tone of a P to a J bass, but I do need the flexibility to favour the bridge vibe too. I'm perhaps asking for a bit much here 😂
  7. G'day all So, NBD (yesterday) for me, a Cort GB-75JH. I've got a set of Lakland JH pickups to bung in. My question, and this really is and all opinions welcome thing... without breaking the bank, which preamp is a good match? * I would love an East 4-band, but it's a lot of money sadly * I would prefer a preamp with a lot of bottom end oomph. Mids I can manage from my pedalboard preamp * 9v only as I don't fancy routing this bass * I've had a lot of experience with Seymour Duncan preamp, and they are undoubtedly wonderful, but will they be a match for the Lakland set? Anyway, my thanks in advance. No suggestion will be ignored 😊 Julian
  8. PM sent with picture @mrn1989 - Julian
  9. Man, if only I wasn't so flipping broke... I don't suppose you want to trade on a (pickup and EQ modded) Sterling Ray5, do you? This is one sweet looking bass @mrn1989
  10. One of those "darn, I wish I'd never sold that one" basses... huge sound from those Nords - and killer playability! GLFYS!!!!
  11. My ears are hurting and I wasn't even there!!!
  12. One of the biggest regrets of my G.A.S. was selling this exact model - which I had upgraded with a full USA Bartolini pipckup and preamp mod. I am so broke, else I'd be all over this one... man, I miss this bass
  13. Stunning case - if only it was for a regular electric bass...
  14. That is 100% the truth - my old ABm 210 combo was making all sorts of weird noises - Guy from Ashdown stripped it, replaced one board, re-soldered a whack of it - put in new slider grips and gave it a hair cut, all for the princely sum of a great chat!!!! And for that reason, I am Ashdown4Life.
  15. Hi @DaleASmith... absolutely... it is NOT the ABM... which is a pity as that was the impression I had 9from reading a lot before this particular thread of course). The ABM tone is amazing... truly a win in my opinion. This is a win too - but a different win. It is a stunning pedal no doubt. Are you looking for this pedal?
  16. Ah - good point - I will add that.. it's a 5M (16.4') cable @marleaux62
  17. Good day all. This is one seriously good (and expensive) cable [studio grade] according to some studio players I used to know in another life - however, I just never used it as I was using custom made cables at the time, and it's been in a drawer for years, unused. A little dusty and scuffed from being in said drawer, but this cable is in perfect working order.... it just needs a home amendment: 5 meter or 16.4 foot in length Priced at £18 including P&P to the UK
  18. My input gain is a wee bit higher, but the drive level and gain are pretty much exactly that.
  19. I have played with the input gain and that did work for sure... I just find it very harsh and barky in drive mode. I am not the biggest fan of drive to be fair, but when I do like it, and were I to use it, I would definitely prefer a smoother, more "even" drive - something like the D@rkgl@ss Classic Microtubes. I saw a YooChoob clip of Steve Lawson demoing his board and the drive is smooooooooooooooooth.... Anyone wanna buy an OrigionAl? Or trade hahahaha
  20. Aha - which one did you slot in???
  21. I could not agree with you more on the valve point. It is unusable IMO
  22. Yeah - it's odd that the unit came with a 15 and not at 18V supply - and that Ashdown themselves said use the 15v???
  23. Interesting option @Lozz196. I suspect there is far too much going on under the hood for it to run on batteries and it's analog too isn't it?
  24. Perhaps they have the same reputation as that once held by (classic) Trace Elliot. I remember well (back in South Africa) how so many bassists absolutely hated TE kit... yet would quite happily gear that I thought was awful. Lids for pots i say. IMHO Ashdown is amazing. I've played with the EQ on the OriginalAL a lot since my last post here, and while I am not blown away or dazed by the splendor of its tone, I am never found wanting. It just "does" what it says on the tin. Could it push some more out? Sure. Does it realistically need to? Probably not. My 10c on Mark Bass is best left for another forum hahahaha
