I bought the StingRay fretless with a view to seeing if it could oust my passive G&L JB-2 fretless. (I only want to keep the one fretless) I've owned a couple of Musicman fretless basses in the past and they are wonderful, it was just hard justifying keeping it when it cost me almost twice what the USA made G&L did. One thing about the MM is that I really loved the mid control on the fretless. I've tended to prefer 2EQ on fretted StingRays but the 3EQ was great on a fretless. Nothing that couldn't be adjusted for on your amp but with a fretless, better having it on the bass making it feel that bit more intuitive imo

I just sold one. Lovely bass that was set up perfectly, I just preferred my G&L fretless (J pickups and ebony board vs humbucker and pau ferro)

They both are ! ๐

One man's meat.... On the lighter side for Harley Benton JB's from what I've read but is that just for the JB75? Personally 9lbs 2oz doesn't feel like a lot to me. I have four basses all +10lb and one touching 11. I've messaged Thomann re the damage will wait and see what they come back with

Arrived this morning. Had an hour spent with it so here goes The good: Love the colour, looks brilliant with the tort plate and matching headstock. After a set up the bass plays great with no noisy electronics and I have zero complaints with the tones on offer. No issues with the tuners either which appear solid enough. Lastly the weight is only 9lbs 2oz/4.14 kg. The not so good: Fret ends were a bit rough (sorted now) The bad: Bass has been dropped in transit by the looks of it. Small chip on the end of the headstock which has taken a small piece of the paint off. At the other end the strap button has been pushed in past the paint and is bent slightly. Bass doesn't appear to have suffered any other damage. Not quite sure what to do now as the small cosmetic issues at both end of the bass don't bother me that much but they shouldn't be there.

Mines (the Dakota red) is being delivered today. I had to put the delivery back from Monday as I've been away. I'll update later today with weight, pics etc

Thanks Mart. Is in all probability the best fretless I've owned and that includes the '94 Stingray fretless I just sold. Reason being I think I like an ebony board and bridge J single coil tone most of all on a fretless.

Didn't have an L-1505 but I did own the same L-1500 twice. That was one sharp toned, almost nasal sounding bass. The treble could be made to induce the same reaction as hearing nails being drawn down a blackboard. But it had a ton of character and never could not be heard. I miss it!

That makes it halfway between a modern P/StingRay 1.625/41.3mm nut to a 1.75/44.5 mm one I'm almost tempted to have another look ๐ The emerald blue is fantastic. Very close to the finish on a USA SB-2 I had many moons ago which was lush

I had the natural one in the Andertons video bought from Jezzaboy of this parish. Loved the look and sound, and Im no expert on P bass neck profiles but the neck is a big lump of wood and iirc 1.75" at nut. At least as big as a Fender 50's Classic P bass one.

Bought Martin's G&L Tribute SB-2 from him at a cracking price. Unbelievably he knocked some more off it and gave me some flatwound strings to take away and put on it when I got home. Also got to try out his G&L Fallouts which were a bit of a revelation! Deal in confidence. Top fella and a credit to the forum. Good chatting with you Martin, thanks for the deal, really appreciate it!

Will do. fwiw my MV-4P/J with the Gotohs is 9lb 14oz. I'm tempted to get a second in oly white and string it with roundwounds ๐

Outgoing '94 fretless.

Thanks Gerry, Hope you're keeping well. I've got a MV-4P/J in shell pink. Was so impressed with it I decided to go for a Jazz as well. I think the red/tort/rosewood with matching headstock looks the best of the lot. Ordered a set of flatwounds at the same time and I've got some covers to put on it too. Crazy cheap! Keir

Can't say I ever noticed that on either of the Gen 2 V3 basses I had nor the Gen 2 M2 bass either. Sorry.

I couldn't order an MV-4JB in anything but sunburst so decided to go with one of these instead. Ordered the Dakota Red

I was the owner before Graham when it had no mods and a fetching(?) orange swirl pickguard taken from another Ray25 when I had two of them. Really nice bass, obviously greatly improved with the tasteful work done. Enjoy! Keir

I bought the shell pink MV-4PJ but when I asked Thomann about getting a burgandy mist or daphne blue MV-4JB I was told they were now discontinued. Seems a strange thing to do, when they're popular and sell out, they go and discontinue them๐

Congrats on getting this. I was after it but was second in line. (I think we must have both felt some L5500 sellers regret) Anyway if you ever decide to move it on please let me know .
