  1. Wider spacing between the pickups and the back pickup is closer to the bridge on the Valenti when compared to my Lakland Skyline 44-60 so more like 70s spacing. With just the VTC and no active bass or treble and the with blend pot in the middle there is definitely a ‘wider’ sound than the Lakland. Hard to quantify I guess but the sound has more of that ‘hollow’ two pickup slap tone to it.
  2. Super playing bass. Action was ridiculously low when I had it. Almost played itself Huge amount of bass for the money. GLWTS
  3. Yes I’ve been in touch with Lukus re this bass but until something of mine sells I’m out😞

I’ve just put the Valenti up for sale to make a particular purchase but it has been nice having both around this week. The Skyline’s neck shaping, fretting, action and general feel is excellent (my first Lakland)
  5. **NO LONGER FOR SALE** 2014 Fender USA Dimension Deluxe HH In metallic rootbeer finish. Twin humbuckers with five way switch and three band active EQ, Fender deluxe tuners and Fender high mass bridge. Compound radius fingerboard with carbon graphite rods in neck. Comes with Fender case. No structural, electronics or playability issues. Couple of small marks on the back and a couple on the side, some light scratching in places visible from certain angles. Some light buckle rash on back. Pickguard has the usual scratch marks. Edit: now £850 with case or £800 with MusicMan heavy padded gig bag. would take a Lakland Bob Glaub, 44-64, Sandberg Electra or similar value P bass in part exchange or possible straight trade for USA Sterling 4H/G&L SB-2 or Sandberg California prefer VS4 or VM4 and prefer gloss finish would also be interested in a Lakland 44-02 Dlx as I have just caught the Lakland bug 😊 thanks for looking Keir
  6. **sorry now withdrawn as I have come to my senses** Valenti #146 by Nino Valenti, NYC, USA. https://www.valentibasses.com This is my second Valenti and I planned on keeping this one. (Always regretted letting the first one go) Only problem is that I now have a lead on my bucket list bass and I need to sell something to get it. Otherwise there’s no way I would even entertain this going. Swamp ash body finished in translucent white finish. Contoured heel and narrow radius chamfer on body edge. Bound maple neck with blocks. Hipshot hardware. Aguilar single coil pickups with Sadowsky preamp with VTC (vintage tone control) for passive tone + active bass and treble. Superb, pro instrument put together by ex Sadowsky employee Nino Valenti. Balance is perfect, very light, great sounding pickups with a studio grade pre amp which sounds classy. Effortless to play. Action can be gotten stupidly low if you want. No structural, electronics or playability issues with the bass. Comes with gig bag. Valenti’s price list now shows a Modern 21 fret J bass price starting at $2800. I believe the bound and blocked neck, trans white finish and Sadowsky pre amp are chargeable upgrades on this base price. Edit: a couple of points of note 1. The pickup covers have hairline cracks in them from being over tightened by previous user. This is purely cosmetic and I will either fit replacement covers or adjust the price slightly. 2. I had the blend pot re wired for normal operation. Full clockwise for neck and full off for bridge. Sadowsky have theirs back to front so that turning it full on gives the bridge pickup and more mids. I couldn’t get on with it like that as it was too illogical so it has been re-wired by my tech back to what my brain can comfortably deal with.
  7. ***No longer for sale. Keeping it*** edit: I have unexpectedly come across the certificate of authenticity, owners manual etc while sorting through things after my house move. Pics attached. 1996 G&L L-5500 bass with G&L hard case. Ash body with quartersawn maple neck with graphite reinforcement and rosewood fingerboard. G&L saddle lock bridge and G&L tuners. This model was produced in small numbers in the mid 90s while G&L were getting their 5 string MFD pups ready for the L-2500 and was the model which corrected a lot of the shortcomings of the previous L-5000 (narrow nut width and tight string spacing) This bass has EMG dual coil pickups (iirc EMG40 DC )and EMG BTC active circuit with 2 band EQ. This pickup/preamp gives the bass a very clear sound which suits a wide variety of genres. The plastic on the knobs is starting to perish slightly in places and the pots could do with a quick spray of electrical contact cleaner. Condition wise, there is tarnishing on the neck plate as pictured, there is some buckle rash and some crazing in the finish on the back of the bass though front is very clean apart from a couple of areas which have slightly dulled when viewed from certain angles. Overall in very good condition for a bass now a quarter of a century old. A peculiar oddity is that at some point the pan pot has been changed to be the wrong way round. Not sure of the thinking behind this but like the Sadowsky way of wiring the blend control, I guess it’s retraining your brain into thinking that turning it on full clockwise brings on more mids and bite for soloing etc. Anyway it’s illogical imo but I haven’t got round to having it changed. the bass weighs just over 11lbs so fairly substantial as they all were. Bass can be auditioned in Market Drayton, Shropshire or could possibly meet Stoke, Crewe, Telford, Shrewsbury areas or depending where you are. I’ve just used my last shipping box so posting could be a problem at the moment. I’ve got my eyes on something else and if I buy that, chances are I’ll have another shipping box 🙂 thanks for looking Keir NO LONGER FOR SALE
  8. Very nice indeed but having checked my bass fund, I’m a fair bit short. Which is a shame😞 GLWTS!
  9. Bought Peter’s Lakland Skyline J bass from him this lunchtime. Really lovely bass, couldn’t be happier with it and how it stayed unsold so long is completely beyond me. (If I could have made a deal work three months ago it would have been mine then) Anyway this is a great Jazz bass and I’m tickled to finally get my grubby mitts on it. Sat and had a good chat about basses and it was great talking to someone with a great knowledge of the instrument we all love and what were his preferences and the kind of things he looks for in his bass choices. could have chatted for ages but alas, a return journey across the Peak District beckoned for me. Anyway Peter is a great guy to deal with and a credit to basschat methinks. Thanks for a smooth deal Peter and I’m sure we’ll trade another time in the future (similar tastes n’ all that) plus we both agree that the USA EBMM Sterlings are just fantastic…..‘nuff said! all the best Keir
  10. Seems loud for a passive bass and the OMG setting is such a great tone - like a dub reggae tone on steroids. The bass is lovely, fit and finish is a tad higher than the regular USA production basses imo Maybe not to the extent of the MusicMan Classic series v regular but feels to me that bit more lush than a Fullerton Standard or Deluxe. Yes. I got the last one I believe😎 Pharaoh gold was the only colour left but I like garish G&Ls ( I once had a silver flake L-2000 and also a gold Asat bass too) and it’s probably the colour I would have wanted anyway so all good. The price was a complete no brainer.
  11. And also my L-5500 (again)
  12. Bought from new CLF Research L-1000.
  13. So am I (I think) …. checks map… yes I am! 🙂 cheers Keir
  14. No. But I owned #042 way back in ‘07/‘08. Would like to know where that one went. This one is #146 with Aguilars and the Sadowsky VTC. cheers Keir
  15. I’m moving to Shropshire from Scotland this week. Would be up for September 4th🙂 Doveridge is just over 30 miles from where I’ll be. Valenti jazz Fender Dimension Deluxe HH Musicman Cutlass (the P bass one) possibly a Lakland or G&L TC RH450 + 2x8” cab(s) - can’t fit bigger in the car cheers Keir
  16. I like StingRays but the USA Sterling is a better bass all round for me. Better neck, tone and ergonomics imo
  17. iirc the Ray34CA all had 1.5”/38mm nut width and so do the Ray 24 basses. If you can find a 34CA get it. You won’t regret it. I only sold mine to help fund a rather lovely Jazz bass but I miss it and preferred it to the USA Classic StingRay.
  18. Also when the s/h USA ones were maybe £250-£300 higher than a used Ray 35 it was likely worth saving the extra. Now the difference a lot of the time seems £600 or so which makes it a long way from clear cut imo.
  19. Can’t stand the bridge plate on the Ray4/Ray5. looks terrible imo. great basses otherwise! I’ve owned three full fat USA Stingray 5s and three Sterling Ray 35s. Love the USA ones, the oil/wax finish on the neck and a ton of other stuff about them but when I switched to the offshore ones I didn’t really feel I was missing out on anything at all. If I had another I’d want the roasted maple neck with the satin finish and then strip the finish on the back of the neck. There’s also the older Ray 34/5 CA (Classic active) and the newer Ray 24/5 with the 2 band EQ and regular oval MM pickguard too. I owned a Ray34CA with the Jazz profile neck for a couple of years and thought the quality of fit and finish was superb on that particular bass. Keir
  20. Is this an update on the B5 plus AS RM? the Element says it has got ash top on mahogany body and the electronics are Bartolini vs solid ash body and Bartolini pickups with Mark bass preamp on the AS RM. I would buy either as I’ve had really good ownership experiences with Cort basses. Think I’ve had six of the GB models (74/75/94/99) and they’ve all been really excellent. I still have a hankering for a B5 so will need to get to a shop and try one.
  21. Or a passive USA Standard in blue😍
  22. I had the Deluxe 5 HH before getting this. In retrospect I should have kept it as it was a superb player but I had some tough decisions to make with my gear and now it’s gone to another basschatter. I haven’t tried a single H and that’s hopefully my next port of call with these basses.
  23. Haven’t weighed it but it seems a bang average weight for a bass. Sorry I can’t be more accurate but I can’t envisage any issues with it weight wise playing over extended periods of time Quite ballsy sounding. I like pos 2 and 4 on the switch the best but the bass sounds good across all five positions without touching the 3EQ. Thanks. Does seem that no matter how hard Fender try with new models, players only want the Precision and Jazz bass. Then to top it all, Fender get stick for releasing new variants of those just about every year. iirc I think I read/heard that this colour was limited to as few as thirty pieces and most ended up being shipped to Europe. Maybe that’s just a load of tosh but they do seem pretty rare.
  24. This was my old bass and a lovely example it is too. A general feeling of being really well put together, and some other stuff that’s really hard to quantify, elevated it above a couple of other Sterling Ray 35s I owned during its time with me. Seller is a top fella too. Buy with absolute confidence. GLWTS! Keir
  25. Liking the white/maple one with the white pickup cover. Looks ace even if it is back to front.
