  1. His basslines on those first 3 albums (Dangerous Rhythm, Slip Away, Lonely Hunter, Man who dies everyday etc) along with Barry Adamson's bass with Magazine and Paul Gardiner's with Numan were a big influence in me taking up bass in the first place. Also loved the 8th note Moog stuff on Vienna and Rage in Eden. Impressed me that he could do this with his left hand while playing some other synth part with his right while contributing backing vocals. Always did what was right for the song, a great supporting bassist and a top fella by all accounts.
  2. My hybrid 4 arrived today. The usual fettling with these but worth it imo
  3. I feel your pain. I had a StingRay Classic which was a lush thing. Only sold it to further fund my love affair with Classic Sabres at the time. I still hanker after a black/maple Classic StingRay like my pre EB I bought 35 years ago.
  4. I gig my two first gen Metro Expresses and they've been great.
  5. Love the look of these and the sound of them too from the clips I've watched. I also don't get how these new are roughly £250 or thereabouts cheaper than the new Sterling by Sterling Joe Dart-a-like. I'd buy this if only I had the bass tokens but Paddy777 on here got all my money in a recent trade. GLWTS!
  6. Yes was standard Strat switching. Only difference was the silent circuit on pos 1, 3 and 5 from what I recall. I did have a 1988 trans red/maple 24 fret Silhouette for a short while too which was also s/s/s. That didn't have the silent circuit but was loaded with three Schaller single coils which from memory were really nice sounding pickups. My own favourite sounding single coils were the APS2s in the Albert Lee and the best humbuckers were those in the EVH/SuperSport. The guitar tones on Van Halen's Don't tell me are still some of the best guitar I think I've ever heard.
  7. A lovely guitar that brings on sellers regret in me too. Long time ago (2008) I owned a purple Silo Special which I sold to a fella in Croydon via the ebmm forum. I had a 24 fret hardtail Silhouette before I owned the Special which had the Wilkinson trem so were quite a fair bit different from each other. They were fantastic guitars. Had a big thing for EBMM guitars back then owning an EVH, Super Sport and P90 Sports as well as a Morse Y2D and an Albert Lee. My absolute favourite though was a black Steve Morse Std. Still miss it to this day, having sold it and the Y2D to help pay for my wedding (managed to keep the wife these past 13 years) Edit: should add that my purple special was s/s/s but I retrofitted a Seymour Duncan JB Jr in the bridge.
  8. That's a beauty Stuart. I nearly pulled the trigger on a black Pro II a couple of years ago and in retrospect I wish I had as it looked amazing. One of the more (generally) under appreciated Warwicks imo.
  9. Lovely looking bass Paddy, looks super versatile. I've owned only the one Sandberg but it was ridiculously good how it played. I'm sure someone will love this. Have a BUMP on me Keir
  10. That colour looks incredible with the gold hardware. What colour is it?
  11. 1996 blueburst. I prefer unlined if I'm honest but I can live with it in this instance.😊
  12. Did another trade with Jason, this time getting my old Valenti Jazz bass back which he kindly looked after the last fifteen months. I'm over the moon with its return to the fold and Jason was first class to deal with again. The man is a top basschatter. Many thanks. Keir
  13. I bought this new from PMT and yes I put the scratch there. Truss rod was a bit sticky and I forced the issue. Freed up the truss rod just fine but my cack handedness left the fine, hard to see from anything other than close up scratch on the treble horn. Superb example of a Ray 35 - lightweight, low action, superb dark roasted neck, classic looking black guard on vintage sunburst. I only gigged it a handful of times but I did use it on a promo video https://fb.watch/oOMNg2_j4K/ Pete's a great guy to deal with too!🙂
  14. I had both USA Deluxe HH in 4 and 5 strings. I really liked them, especially the 5 and in retrospect I don't know why I got rid. Reminded me a lot of a StingRay 5 in the neck feel, profile and string spacing. Sounded stellar too, especially the in between settings (both inner and outer coils) No drop off in volume between settings. Price on these is going up from what I can see. They were silly cheap a while back. Not now
  15. I picked up a V5 24 fret. Colour is more subdued in person. Camera on my phone makes it look brighter than it really is and doesn't capture the soft almost pastel hue under artificial lighting. Really impressed with the fit and finish of this bass.(fret ends could have been a bit tidier but sorted that) This V5 could well be a keeper!
  16. I had a 2007 M5-24 Metro bass which was a wonderful thing. I sold it but still have a first gen black J/J SMX. Great feeling, playing bass too. No VTC but as has been mentioned the bass and treble are so wide ranging I don't miss having it
  17. G&L L-2000. Perfect for the genres you listed. I love the USA MM Sterling basses (neck to die for) but from my experience I find they are mids heavy compared to StingRays (which is not a bad thing unless like you is not the sound you're after ) 2EQ StingRay? Have that lovely top end with big bottom sound. All imo
  18. Vin bought my TC Spark Booster pedal. Quick payment, easy to deal with and a credit to basschat. Cheers Keir
  19. *SOLD* Behringer BDi21 sans amp clone £20 posted Donner Yellow Falls echo £20 posted Or £35 for both posted

  21. *Now sold* Excellent condition, no issues, boxed. £45 incl postage
  22. Not basses or amps, but I have bought a couple of pedals and a MIDI controller keyboard from them. Never had any issues
