1.
To sing and play those lines is beyond belief.
+1 how he can do that is beyond me
2. what a great looking bass! I'm keen on trying out an SB14 myself after seeing Ed Friedlands video afaik they are shipped to California for final set up/inspection but not at the ebmm factory but at Praxis Music in Orange County
3. great looking SR5,dont do it! I wish I had something to trade as I'd have it along with my maple board stingray 5 in a heartbeat. good luck with the trade
4. Stingray 5s had alnico pickups way back in the beginning, then changed to ceramic up till the Sterling 5 came out then changed back to alnico. mines has ceramic and I love the tone - smooth yet growly is how I'd describe it. I've got a Bongo 5HH too and wouldnt have sold my SR5 to get it but I'm glad I have that too. It does a lot more than the SR5 but cant do the thing the SR5 does
5. I (amongst others) owned CK's natural NS5CRFM for 18 months. Superior to the other Euro 5 I owned and the LX's I auditioned at length. That bass was warmer sounding and had some mids built in even though the preamp didnt. I can only imagine it sounds awesome now with the mods. Materials, fit and finish were on par with a 90's Warwick SS1 I used to have many moons ago. Shame they dont do woods like that on the current ones.
6. never seen a wunkay without the control plate. looks great like that imo
7. hi, sorry no, despite looking I couldnt find either of those boards for it.
8. Sweet looking bass. imo this is the Bongo colour. First one I ever saw was in '03 on the press release from musicman just after NAMM and it was in this desert gold. I've had 3 possibly dull looking ones in comparison, not that I'm complaining cos they sound stellar
9. my only experience with Bartlonis is their MMC musicman replacement. I swapped it out for a Basslines one and the Duncan sounded much more like the musicman tone. The term "polite" mentioned a couple of times in this thread is spot on when describing their MM pickup. It wasnt a bad sound at all,it sounded polished and warm but just not what I was after.
10. one day we'll have a Sabre re-issue (hopefully)
11. and so's the radiance red Bongo 5HH... stunning! too many nice basses in this thread. going to stop looking here or I'll just start dreaming of/hatching plans for another Sterling
12. that autumn redburst SR5 two posts up must be fairly rare. beautiful!
13. I remember that SB-2 from a couple of months back LeftyJ. wrong way round but lovely all the same SB-2 is indeed a great bass. my one has a 3 way pickup switch and a tone control. Most players will use the P and blend in the single coil as a tone control but I've gone the other way & ramped the bridge single coil up (and lowered the split P)to match the output of both p/ups. Its the best passive bridge p/up sound I've ever had on any bass ever - cuts through anything. which is just as well as the split P is huge sounding. I love the bridge pickup solo'd and I'm glad I have it even if its not being used the way it was designed/intended. My L-2000 can do many things and is a great bass for loads of different tones but it cant get near what the SB-2 does. I've A/B'd them a number of times and in passive mode the SB-2 sounds bigger and to my ears better than the L2K. emerald blue with birdeye maple neck & ebony board
14. JB owners on talkbass have said the same pups sound different on the new bass. The new JB sells for $1100/1200 new which is the same as a MIA Std Jazz. imo G&L should do well with their bass given the vast options, lineage and superior build of their bass. Haven't seen any used, they're that new any JB-2s I've seen seem to go for $700-900 used. SB-2's about the same I've only seen a few SB-2s and neither of the JB's in the UK. I'm still torn between either a JB (20 fret/4 bolt) or a JB-2 (21 fret/6 bolt) I love this colour on the JB hope you find the bass you're after! and if theres two give me a shout cheers Keir
15. sad news indeed. my thoughts go out to his family Keir
16. theres been some discussion on the JB bass at TB http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=545008 http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?p=7821999 http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=564905 I'm after either the JB or a JB-2 for my next bass purchase. The chances of finding either in the UK seem pretty slim though so I'm keeping an eye out for a used one in the States that the owner will be happy to ship to me. What about the SB-2? fantastic bass those. great P/J sounds, jazz neck,I sold both my fender Jazz and Precision because the SB-2 sounded better than both imo cheers Keir
17. Bongo 5 - sapphire black with moonstone guard - I got this from bigwan in a trade for my Bongo 4 same colour/config. came with the Japanese market MM logo'd C&G case and kanda shokai receipt.
18. got it from Si (geddys nose) in June. It has the #8 Jazz neck option and is really rather splendid imo. this and the Bongo 5 string I got from bigwan have killed my GAS the last couple of months which is a good thing
19. thanks, I've managed to sell a bass (and possibly another) which may mean I can keep this after all. Yay!
20. If you dont mind importing from the States there are two on ebay at the moment for just over 1K + shipping and duty/vat. (sigh) I'll own one of these one day in ice blue/maple

22. as part of my clear out this lovely guitar has to go. I imported it from the States a couple of years back and its in near mint condition. unfortunately I have mislaid the trem arm during my house move a couple of months ago so have taken a whack off what i would have been looking for originally Its a USA model made at the factory in Fullerton,California. it comes with the warranty card, owners manual, hang tag and the certificate of authentitity signed by Mrs Phyllis Fender. Will ship with a deluxe G&L gig bag The colour is Fullerton Red with matching headstock. The neck has a fairly big profile with a low action. Tuners are Sperzels, and the guitar has the aged parts kit as standard. it also has the G&L PTB system (passive treble and bass) which works a treat. Would love to keep it but bills mean I cant pics:
23. Now £495 + postage
24.
I love synths & when I record song demos at home I'll use a synth for the bass part 9 out of 10 times. I find it makes me think about the bass part differently & I tend to come up with more interesting (to me) ideas than I would on a bass guitar.
+1. the synth bass sounds themseves can be hugely inspiring.
