1. L-2000's - I've owned 3 USA's and a Korean TRibute and also a pair of Asats with the same pickups/preamp. I love 'em! I tend to leave mine in passive and in series. big growly, dark tone! The passive mode works without a battery as its true bypass and in either of the active mods the bass and treble are cut only. the USAs normally ship with the #7 neck (12'' radius, 1.75" at the nut) but there are some around which would have been ordered with the #8 (1.5 nut, same radius) This jazz bass like neck is standard on the SB-2,JB-2 and Asat basses. the tribute L2K's ship with the 1.75 nut width. there are no other neck options I believe on these. I used to own a lovely MIK L-2000. It was a natural ash/maple one and played beautifully. Whereabouts are you,I'm in Ayrshire and if you're nearby you're more than welcome to try mine. I should also have my old L-1500 coming back to me as well sometime soon and that one has the wider neck. cheers!
2. They're no longer made and would be tricky to find if one appealed. I have a Deity 4 string fretless and its a beautifully crafted bass. couple of clips of a 10string http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwsJfAXOI8Q http://truefire.com/bptv/index.html?req=1&...eargodlykedeity http://www.godlykebass.com/Deity_8_String.php http://www.grdmusic.com/servlet/the-17/God...ss,-bass/Detail
3. Beautiful looking five string USA G&Ls are still the worlds best kept bass secret. Nothing can hold a candle to them for the money imo
4. The flame maple topped G&L L-2000 arrived today from Si. Top fella to deal with, friendly on the phone and a man who knows his stuff. He even knocked me a bit off the already discounted price and then shipped on a 24 hour courier service ahead of payment clearing! This is the second USA G&L I've had off him and both have been stellar. thanks again Si
5. sems they're also set to do a new version of the Stingray with a Sterling neck. I like the sound of that myself.
6. my old bass! (I owned it for 18 months)I miss this and I'd have most likely been looking to buy it back if I didnt just buy a L-2000 the other day off the same basschatter who sold me this Asat. This bass is lighter than the hollow body Asat I had at the same time and plays great as you say.Obviously it sounds powerful too with the G&L tri-tone electronics. I used this and a MM Sterling with an INXS tribute band a couple of years back and the band unanimously preferred the tone of this one. I always loved the front binding and the beautiful finish - its a great piece. good luck with the sale.
7. This week Andrew and I traded my Valenti Jazz for his Musicman Stingray. He went the extra mile to make sure he got the best courier for the Ray despite some setbacks with his original choice of shipper. the bass was mint as described and he's a friendly guy to speak with on the phone. I'd 100% in full confidence trade/buy/sell with him again thanks again mate. the Stinger is a peach! Keir
8. great looking SR5.wish it was mine!
9. well I stand corrected, I was quoting what Dan at EBMM customer services posted on the MM Boards. I've had 4 sterlings and they were all prefixed with the F but then again they were all '99 and later. maybe D applied to only Sterlings (or maybe just the basses) from the period yours was made but up to about '97 or so I know musicmans used the first 2 digits showing the year eg 96***. I still have a MM six stringer with that type of serial and the older logo on a recessed neckplate. enjoy the bass, I'm soon after a Sterling again (been too long without) cheers
10. 2 weeks in Crete sounds fab! where? I was in Ag Nik - loved it given a band or a holiday right now I'd be on the plane
11. thanks Sam, no mate haven't tried a $$ ever. seen them in Reverb/Sound control, always fancied a go but never did. I like the switching/coil options on them - looks versatile. your nirvana black is the best finish too.
12. box,no manual,bought a few weeks ago from MB1,wanting what I paid which is £25 + £5 postage cheers Keir
13. Si,thats very kind of you and the offer of the PG would be most welcome, the moonstone guards on both my ebmms at the moment could really do with being something else. You had this bass too? I remember seeing pictures of a Bongo you were selling a while back. From memory wasn't it a plain black one. I remember it because a) it looked great and b)most of the bongos are either sapphire black, grey or right lary colours. on a side note, payment was sent earlier for the G&L. I'm looking forward to fiddling around with that p/up and preamp arrangement again. Especially when its in a bass that looks as great. Musicman + G&L = happiness imo
14. ^^ thanks for the compliment. and you've noodled on this bass yourself no doubt - it used belong to mikeH at one point
15. just wait for the pound to go back up against the dollar and then get your H used off the EBMM boards. thats how I got my white one. i dont think the finish is too sticky. not as nice feeling as say a sterling or stingray wax/oil finish but they're buggers to maintain by comparison. and yes I do remember your 5 because I unsuccessfully tried to get it from you with a rather (at the time)pointless offer of another 5 string in exchange
16. at the time I thought that medallion gold 5 you had was amzing and you were nuts for selling it but I was a right silly sausage myself and traded away a rare white Bongo 4HS and then pulled out a deal on a sweet carbon blue pearl 5HS so who am I to talk? Bongo 5 would be great and maybe next on my wishlist though G&Ls always seem to interfere with my musicman plans.....still looks like I've an Sr4 incoming the stingray 5 is in a rare factory colour cos no one liked it and bought them.Me I love it,just need to change the pg out for a vintage creamy pearloid and chrome knobs too and it will be done get yourself an H!....but where to find one?
17. My Bongo which I got back in March some on its own: and a couple with friends:
18. great review on a great bass - I've overcome any niggles with the ergonomics and design of the bass now that I'm on my second one. They sound and play stellar and I can live with the little things as they dont affect tone and playability. post some pics of yours, egyptian smoke is a great finish. I take it you've got the python PG on her
19. The 35'' scale length and fairly chunky neck on my Euro 5 make it quite a handful. I record a fair bit with mine and after switching to the spector from another bass the volume jump is sometimes just too much. I've learned to keep the tonepump flat and add a teeny bit treble or bass as needed. The sustain on the neck thru is fantastic and build quality wise, they're up there imo and feel like they'll last forever. Also very very pretty too. a USA NS model is on another level still and I'm hoping to own one of those in my future I used to have 2 Euro 5's but crazykiwi now has the other one. I'm still happy with the one I've left
20.
Oh my Lord! thats 20th is AWESOME! Id change the scratchplate but thats LUSH x 100000000000000000.1
that could be messy - iirc they're glued on the 20th,not fixed with screws.
