does this qualify as porn? not sure but its sentimental to me
here's my fretless I made back in 96/97 when I was studying guitar making and repair at the Leeds College of Music,Ialso made a fretted one the same with a laquered mahaogany body which I'll post some pics up of soon
ash/maple/rosewood with Duncan Basslines MM alnico p/up and Basslines 3 band MM circuit with the push/pull slap switch
tuners are Schaller BMs and the bridge is a Schaller 3D
cheers
Keir -
thats sweet looking and so versatile too!
I'm wanting a G&L 5 stringer myself. -
its a beauty but as stated, overpriced
bottom right pic there is some mega heavy figure lines in that neck, very nice indeed -
black pre EB Stingray
Hard to tell from the photos, but it looks like the body might be finished in the discontinued Red Swirl, like mine. If so, it's not a refin.
Here's mine (a pig to photograph properly)

thats lovely! - nig had a L5500 up FS on here a few months back in the blue swirl. Both look great - the gaudier the better with G&Ls I say,I love the metal flakes in particular - not too long ago there was a green metal flake SB2 with maple board on ebay that had my eyes bulging out their sockets every time I saw it. that and the silver flake JB-2 I missed out on twice
and for the seller flat black is always good -
a lakland JO or DJ?
or if its just a traditional bass which can do a multiple number of tones active or passive - a L2500? -
the bridge is a Schaller 3D. You can get replacement G&L saddle lock bridges direct from the G&L online shop at $70
-
I'd happily buy, own and play any good quality P that had a single coil at the bridge and a 1.5'' nut.
mines is called a G&L SB-2
Both lovely basses DJ, but the Bolin in particular is exceptional! I've never seen a nicer looking single-cut bass...
thanks for the kind words. I agree,I think it is very elegant looking.
MMmm, I like the look of that valenti
thanks. I'm no expert on J basses but I've played enough to know this one is right up there. Thinking about it, I'm pretty sure the 3 previous owners all had Sadowskys which may be the the only reason for it not stopping in any one place too long.
This bass has replaced my G&L SB-2 as my "go to" 4 string and if I ever see another Valenti up for sale/trade I think one of the G&L's is for the chop. :brow:

BB,the Bolin plays great seated or standing. the extender is ugly but i wish i had one on my Asat bass.
Ped,I have the same number as I had when I got the StingRay 5 back in March - 8 - since then a pair of Sterlings and the flame maple natural Spector have goneand in came the Bolin,Valenti and a Godlyke Disciple 5
-
together:

This Valenti has travelled around the country a fair bit and I've been interested in it since it first appeared for sale/trade here on BC. I wanted a Jazz bass and I'm really glad its this one I've got... Its sublime and my new #1 player !
This Bolin NS 5 has been owned by at least a couple of other basschatters too. Inspiring to play, the piezo sounds terrific and theres loads of tones on tap. I also love the singlecut and slotted headstock
-
Dave, you probably know now I wasnt lying when I said at the time, I had to get it out the house because after a fettle it played slicker than my USA ones
I was a right twat letting it go so I'm glad you're still very happy with it.I'd definetely buy another Tribute L2K or hopefully a JB-2 sometime in the future. -
Steve is a friend of the forum. Knowing that he used to be pro EB, I'm guessing that has to irk Sterling some.
I'm sure theres a load more things irking Sterling Ball with Steve Barr than a commissioned Lakland bass.
nice bass btw. -
well played if its yours now Kev
-
cant see how this would fare any better on the EBMM boards....maybe a bit more interest on account of the blue dawn finish but 95% of the punters there are from the other side of the pond and would prolly only pay the same in dollars. you're better off keeping it here imo maybe trades or partial trades or pop it on gumtree/adtrader. its a nice bass, someone will buy it I'm sure
-
G&L Tribute L-2000? It does a ton of bass sounds and it just kills the 3 basses you mention imo

There's some great bass playing on Roxy Music albums.. The bass on 'Mother of Pearl' on the Stranded album is just wonderful!
absolutely! funky, melodic and immensely inspiring -
A guitar with an oil/wax maple fingerboard I have looked similiar but far more so than this JO. The chap who sold it to me had it refretted with jumbo frets by Feline guitars just before I got it.They either planed or sanded the board and then sealed it so it looked as good as new. excellent job they did too.
not much help I know but surely better to play the JO religiously, wear the frets out and then have the above work done I;m sure
lovely bass btw -
Another sweaty hello from Reading via Dalry
Dalry eh? my stepdad took me to an amateur footie match a wee while back, it was Beith vs Dalry, honestly you'd have thought those two next door towns were seperated by ideology, some of the stuff that was going on was just mental.
Anyway I'm more civilised,I'm from Killie and up to my knees in Ayr blood:blush:
-
or get one of each. nowt wrong with that if you've the readies
-
SR5 - today, tomorrow and the day after that.
You just play those things and everythings good in the world -
thanks John, I asked as i havent had a peek under the bonnet so to speak and normally Fishman have their logo somewhere on the backplae or suchlike if its one of their regular systems. the piezo sounds fantastic and I love the tone of it solo'd without the EMG. plenty of "boing" in it. and the bass looks, feels and plays flat out cool (really nice tension and tone on the B string)
and yay! for slotted headstocks!
cheers -
John,
when did you get the 4 HHp? that looks great.. what a terrific flame on the cap and lovin the colour
incidentally, who makes the piezo system on these? I'm very impressed with it through an ART Tube MP and into the PA.
great basses these Bolins!
