1. lovely collection what does the switch do on the StingRay? and I agree, black blocks and binding on maple is simply inteloreable!
2. Tony, glad to hear you're still lovin the semi-hollow. The first time I gigged it my band leader said he'd never heard so much bottom end grind coming out a bass. and that was after the first few gigs I did with a Bongo.to my mind the Asat/L2K's are all about pure ballsy organic tone .... on a side note I've just bought Stingrayfans trans green L1500 - and looking forward to it joining my G&L harem . for the poster asking about the SB-2, nig or BB2000 would be your best bet for info. the one I got off BB has a 3 way switch and tone control so not your normal SB-2. on the G&L TB and BABP forums the SB-2 is discussed loads.you could maybe do a search there..
3. getting the itch again after my last project finished up at the end of the last summer season. 39 years old with 25 years on bass (20 in working bands) hundreds of gigs experience over the years - soul/funk/pop/rock/oldies and goldies/whatever - as long as the band grooves I'm fairly easy will also take on 6 string duties no probs, just prefer bass and locking in with a drummer dont mind if its midi files/backing tracks but prefer to play in a big band if at all possible sorry no harmonies/backing vox though I can chant a bit lol ctc Keir on 01563-511387 my mail addy is keiry at email dot com
4. I like them a lot. both my G&Ls are 1.5" at the nut.the L2000/L1000 are wider 1.75 at the nut,all 12" radius as standard,L series 4 strings can be ordered with the 1.5 neck too.I think all models come with an optional vintage 7.5" radius fingerboard.I'm not sure about the 5 string necks. the necks on both mine are like jazz bass necks, quite rounded and deep at the back,Asat especially so,the Asat also suffers from a bit of neck dive but I dont even notice it now. they're more fender than musicman neck wise imo The bottom end on G&L's is huge, the cherryburst Asat semi hollow I traded on these boards a few months ago was a bit of a beast in this respect. If tonyF chips in he'll confirm this. other things I like are the saddle lock bridge, active or passive modes, and some really great finishes and options. their other basses are both passive : the SB-2 which is G&L's hot P/J and the JB-2 which is their Jazz bass with 2 alnico single coils (the only bass they do without the MFDs) I miss that semi-hollow
5. I wouldnt, but as said previous,if you're not getting on with it why keep it? strange youre not finding a sound you like out the G&L. is it too toppy sounding? do you have the treble boost on all the time?. if you havent tried already, run it in passive mode a while and back off the volume a bit.the MFD pups are fairly hot,but its more organic, woody and warm sounding with the preamp off imo.
6. 2 Belcat pedals - chorus and analogue delay - both boxed and in mint condtion with less than an hours use each 25 quid the pair plus a fiver recorded delivery via Royal Mail only got a pic of the chorus..wasnt going to sell the delay but no point keeping it http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...304+Chorus/10/1 http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...-303+Delay/10/1 paypal or cheque fine
7. 250 notes for a gorgeous swamp ash Tribute L2K + G&L gig bag.looks in great nick too http://www.adtrader.co.uk/detail/frameset....amp;class_id=53 not sure if this goes here or for sale section
8. Got my Stingray 5 and this Sterling is staying put (for now) Just got a USA G&L SB-2 yesterday off BB2000(lovin it!) I like new bass days and I fancy something new (to me) again and soon, so looking at my basses I realise I dont need 2 Sterlings, especially when the the only differences are in the colour and fingerboard material.I'm keeping the white sparkle one on account of the fact it took me such a long time finding one and I prefer the rosewood board on it so I'm offering this 04 CAR Sterling up in trade or part/ex against the following : MM SR5/Bongo 5, something by Lakland with 5 strings, mebe a G&L 5. would consider others too but I'm pretty much a G&L/MM guy so a bit picky.I could also be interested in another 4 string In the unlikely event you have a G&L JB-2 you want to trade I'm absolutely all ears. I'm not really looking to sell, prefer to trade at this point as the money will just go back out on one of the above anyway Pics and details are on the basschatters review pages http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=6399 cheers
9. nice looker from a safe seller could be a real bargain for someone http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/G-L-L2000-Tribute-Ba...1QQcmdZViewItem
10. these pics were posted up by a a member of the musicman forum,Randracula, they're his pics from the weekend. the colour's rootbeer - and I'm wanting a Sterling 5 string like this one but with a rosewood board.
11. pics please?
12. I have SIT super hooks (no ball end) on my Axis - they're excellent tone wise and seem to stay brighter than Slinkys,D'Addario et al .I bought a dozen sets from The Guitar Store in Glasgow a while back back, not sure if they still stock the brand though
13. sorry I didnt like about the Streamer Std when I owned one - carolena body wood looked cheap and felt it too I'd honestly save the extra for a LX or a ProM or a Corvette Std I also think a SUB would be worth more than an extra 30 notes over a Streamer Std
14. I got an Alesis Phlngr thats just an "a" out
15. "New, they retail $1,999 so this really is a deal!"
16. looks better now than he did 25 years ago - he was just a wee fattie then with a perm and a bandana. Numan carries a baseball bat around in his car so I'm sure he'd still say what he liked to his face
17. bought the EH Nano Dr Q from me. thanks for that! top bloke to deal with
18. my favourite by a mile was Jo Dworniak. he had a band in the 80s called I-Level which I didnt care much for but his work on John Foxx's The Garden and The Golden section was just stellar.incidentally I saw Foxx perform the Metamatic album in its entirety along with the B-sides and Burning Car on the 1st night of the tour in October.going to see Siouxsie in March as well. guess you never lose what you grew up with. Barry Adamson was a great player in my estimation - he done all the Visage stuff too Derek Forbes - vastly underrated - his basslines on Sons & Fascination and New Gold Dream are amazing. Paul Gardiner - not really a great technical player but his basslines on Tubeway Army/replicas/Pleasure principle and Telekon were played with weight. shame he died of an OD in 83 Chris Cross's early work with Ultravox was varied, melodic and mostly on a P-bass. not so sure about the moog 8th note bass on much that followed Fiction factory - cant remember the bass players name but the bassline on Throw the warped wheel out is memorable
19. Slimming down my 6 string collection a bit for more bass gear so this lovely electro acoustic has to go Model 1860 Custom Balladeer 1993 made in USA Black, solid spruce top, shallow bowl cutaway, 2pc mahogany neck - prominent "V" profile -(dead comfy!) rosewood fingerboard diamond inlays at 12th fret only Ovation FET-3 preamp Ovation hardcase The guitar is in superb condition.really looked after.there are a couple of small laquer splits by the bridge but these are purely cosmetic, and common to these guitars.everything works as it should and it sounds the mutts nutts through a PA or acoustic amp. I also will include an Ovation Feedback buster which blocks off the soundhole for live use. heres the spec from the Ovation site http://www.ovationguitars.com/index.cfm?fa...l&mid=1318# looking for 350 notes + postage could be tempted to part ex for the usual suspects with me (MusicMan,G&L,Fender American Series etc)
20. welcome. snoop around!
21. just to say,if this is the Duncan STC 3M preamp the push/pull activates their "slap switch". theres a couple of trim pots on the pre amp board for bass boost and mid cut. going between the 2 sounds works great. BUMP for a great looking/featured StingRay
22.
Nice bass - looks remarkably like the Spector 5 that Alun (homerplaysbass) used to have a few years ago. If it is indeed the same one then it is a real cracking bass!
'tis the one.
