1. You won't go wrong with either the Audere JZ3 or J Retro preamps - both are well respected. Hamster
 2.
The comments here on TalkBass from Stratman and miktit are interesting too - although I think miktit is saying that the white should come from the tone pot.
That will work. Wire it up as the passive schematic you linked to ( http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wirin...c=std_jazz_bass ) but don't connect the centre tab from the tone pot to the jack tip. Connect the white wire to the centre tone pot tab, and then the blue wire to the output jack. As for the 10k pots - the pickups must be putting out a seriously weak signal! Hamster
 3.
Thanks Hamster I'll give that a bash. Although I must say the tone pot was doing something when wired as active - when wired as passive (with the cap as you suggest) it made negligible difference but again that might be down to the odd values of the cap & pot. That's what I thought.
The cap value is what you would expect - but not the pots. Hamster
 4. Hi Karl - a prodigal maybe, but we won't kill the fattest moderator because ............................... (insert mods name when quoting reply) will get upset I'm sure you've got lots of questions. Make good use of the search facility because you'll find they may have been asked before Enjoy the site. 5.
As for the green it's anybody's guess - I have never been able to find a proper wiring diagram for it. edit : If I put in higher value risistors while passive will it be louder?
A wiring diagram would help At the moment your tone pot is doing nothing. Try connecting the blue wire to earth, and connect the green wire to the centre tab of the tone pot, then connect the centre tab of the tone pot to the tip of the output jack. Cut the earth connection between the top tab of the tone pot and the back of the tone pot, and replace it with the 0.47 cap. If that don't work, try swapping the blue and green wires Adding higher value resistors while passive should make it quieter. Good luck Hamster

 8. Ummmmm - clear pictures (to include the headstock) will get a more detailed response from the forum, but as said above - it ain't no genuine Stingray unless it's been modified. What is the exact description of the guitar on the receipt? Hamster
 9. On a quick estimate, the pots are way too low a value - should have 250k - 500k logs pots for volume, and 250k - 500k linear pot for the tone. I don't know what the green wire is doing? Is it an output, input or an earth? Hamster
 10. Apologies - can make the Saturday, but not the Sunday Hamster

 12.
I've just started a new photography night class and we were told our objective would be to produce 2 still lifes and 2 portraits over the next few weeks. We were then asked to bring in examples of the types of shots we would like to take, and that's where the trouble started. I decided that my 2 basses (Warwick Streamer Std 4 and Status Groove 4 w/graphite neck), Yamaha semi guitar and my Marshall AS50R amp would make ideal subjects for still life. So - off to the guitar shops I went to collect guitar catalogues: Fender, Italia, Vintage, Ibanez and many others - so you can see where this is going! I now want the entire Squier Vintage Modified series of basses and one each of the Italia basses - they are so cool I couldn't possibly choose between them. AAAAAARGH - 18 months GAS free, now this. I also have photography GAS too to top it off. AAAAAARRGH!!!
Rule 1: - Always start off with fresh fruit before progressing to lumps of wood with metal bits sticking out of them. I think MPFC did an instructional video about this advice? (albeit a slightly different subject) Hamster

 14.
Ta... ;-) In the end not too bad a price. Was I bidding against any other BCers? I'll post a review in a couple of weeks.
Nah - I was really tempted though as I've wanted to try one of these for some time. Couldn't really justify another bass, and I'm skint! Maybe I'll see it at a Bass Bash? Hamster

 16.
Actually the seller has probably pitched this just right. The BIN price plus postage is slightly cheaper than the last couple of 'Fish I've seen on TB would have been plus postage and customs and they were in more 'desirable' finishes. I'll expect this to go for somewhere between the BIN and £500. Any more and the winner would have been better off importing...
Congrats - let us know what it sounds like Hamster
 17. I've used both Joe White and Ben Fleetcroft in Godalming and can recommend them both. Hamster
 18. Say your goodbyes and find some people who are fun to play with. Then in 6 months time, invite your old workmates to your fist gig Hamster
 19. That's just a very poor saleman for you. A good bit of haggling should get you 10% off most things, and he could of sold damaged goods for the same price as a guitar with ordinary discount? Hamster
