1.
Just my opinion.........but I don't get The Mighty Boosh can you recommend an episode maybe? See if I can get it
Hamster
2. I think it's down to here: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/DR-...mp;src=3SOSWXXA You'll probably get them duty free too as they're not very expensive from across the pond Hamster
3.   Ok. After my last post I clicked on "view new posts" - and I'm back to all posts made after midnight (today) So I experiment and change my default to "get active topics for this year" I click on "view new posts" and I get 373 pages of posts. I then select "get active topics for today", click on "view new posts" and get all the posts from about 7.00pm (4 pages) I then come to this forum to read my last post - read it, click on "view new posts" and I'm back viewing posts from midnight??? I don't know if it's all related but it's a little broken. I deleted my cache and cookies, logged in again and it's still doing the same thing. Hamster
4.
However, it's all been ok for the last 24hrs
Ha ha ha As soon as I posted this and clicked on "view new posts" the page only displayed posts made after midnight. My default is set to "get active topic's for today." Usually that default setting displays a list reflecting recent posting activity. Seconds before I posted the last post I could view posts back to 6:53pm (last) night and there were 4 pages of them. This doesn't usually happen at midnight. Hamster
5.
What's wrong with the pics? Are they just not showing up?
With some of the pics I just get the little box with a red X in it. Some pics show up at full size within the post (bigger than screen size) and some pics appear in the reduced % size but when clicked on go to full size (bigger than screen size) However, it's all been ok for the last 24hrs Other PHP websites I've viewed at the same time have been ok? 6. That's at least £130 more than buying from High Street stores before haggling! Hamster
7.
What is trad-jazz?
Even with my love and respect for Jazz, I still have to have more than 12 pints to start talking knowledgeably about it - let alone start dancing to it Hamster
8.
That's what I was hoping wasn't the case. I reckon I might try to get up to Glasgow soon to try out some heads, but I'm pretty set on an Ashdown. The main reason I started this thread was because I didn't know what MOSFET was. I've seen the term bandied about a bit, but I don't really see the point in telling folk it's MOSFET if it's just standard solid-state transistors.
If you tell people what:- your bass & cabs are; the music you play; the sound you want and your budget then you'll get some pretty sound advice and options you may not of thought of. Hamster
9. None! I've had a really busy week at work and not had time to pick up the bass once!! Hamster
10. Looks more like an Arctic white than Olympic white? Hamster
11. Ok. How are you with a crosshead screwdriver, a soldering iron and a multimeter? Hamster
12. Like this:- or like this:- Hamster
13. It's more or less an industry standard for solid state power amps. You can have solid state pre-amp with a solid state power amp, or a valve pre-amp and valve power amp or any combination of solid state / valve hybrid. All have their pros and cons but the main difference has got to be in the quality of components, circuit design and assembly skill. The music you play and the sound you want to achieve will be a deciding factor in your amp choice. IMHO with a B2RE you are paying for a chinese built amp with a sexy name. You can probably find a chinese built amp with a less sexy name for half the price which will sound just as good. I'll now run away before all the Ampeg fans arrive Hamster
14. Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor, it's just a type of transistor used in solid-state amps. Hamster
15.
Hamster - Sounds like you were forced by your insatiable desire for beer to get used to the crap!
TBH, the beer helped a little to start with but the more I went in there the more bands I heard and my appreciation grew. Hamster
16.
Sorry to de-rail, but a quick question, if this happens: What does it mean and how can i fix it? /end de-rail
It's just a first step (and one way) to track down the problem. If there's a short on one of the pickup windings you might still get some output but it'll be very weak with no depth/bass. If you roll off the treble and the output really drops to nil or barely audible then that's an indication of the internal short. Hamster
17. When you play through the Jazz with the volume control at max, does the signal weaken or vanish for either pickup when you turn down the tone control ? Hamster
18. Jazz never really used to light any fires but I got a job virtually next door to the Bulls Head in Barnes, SW London. Soon after I started there I used to pop in every night for a pint after the shift finished at 10pm and to catch the second set by the band. After a few weeks the doorman got to know my face as a regular and let me slip in free. I was in there virtually every night for 4 years and saw some world class musicians, even striking up a friendship with the drummer Ronnie Verrell who was always up for a chat. I was a lucky Hamster to have so much wonderful music soak into me which really gave me an appreciation for the genre(s) Hamster
19.
Laugh you may, but I recall many extended discussions between ostensibly intelligent human beings on a forum who debated ad nauseum over which color shrink wrap tubing on wire connections sounded better.
Well don't keep us all in suspense Bill! - which one is best? Hamster
20. +1 on leaving too short a time between coats. They have to harden off and the primer / finish / clearcoat all have to be compatable. Personally, I'd leave a gloss finish a couple of weeks to a month before going anywhere near it. Then I'd polish it to a high gloss with a very fine cutting compound before applying a clear coat. Hamster
21. The Warmoth stuff is quality, however for me, if I bought a lot of new quality parts and put them together (probably paying for a luthier to ensure everything is straight and true) then the final cost will be very near to buying a good quality bass off the shelf. I try and buy secondhand and as cheap as I can, respray, re-wire and shield, polish, new set of strings and put a decal on it for gear snobs then see how it sounds/looks. If I end up with a player and a looker then I'm happy Hamster
22. +1 on the above. Most important thing - was it a bargain? Having a little spring clean of it will make you feel good about it and it will look better Hamster
23. It's a 1.4k output head with a valve pre-amp I think. Haven't read about prices yet. Hamster
24.
sorry people, im the buyer that was to confirm later today, but has just confirmed the sale now, so its now minnnne
Who did you sell your kidneys to? Hamster
