Hi there, I've just started up, this would be great for me! Unless I'm too late? What does PM mean? Thanks, Luke
PM means a personal message - click on the members name to the left of the post and select the "send message" option

8 songs!!! Burger me! The last couple of bands I've auditioned for have given me their complete set-lists to learn (40 - 80 songs) and for one I was expected to know most of Quo's back catalogue!!! One of the auditions took place the day after my enquiry! There are a few songs that any self-respecting "pub" player should have under their belts but there's just so much material to learn off pat, even if you do get more than a weeks notice. What I do now is just browse the set-lists of local bands (Blues/R&B/Rock) and just try and learn everything that I don't know. It takes a long time if like me, you learn a lot of songs but don't play them everyday - you quickly forget them again! As for what's a reasonable length of time? - I suppose if you read and have the sheet music, then 10 minutes; if you use the little boxes with dots in them, more than 10 minutes, and if you don't read at all and don't know the songs, then as much time as is possible!

Something like this? - http://www.mojotone.com/amp-parts/Hardware...ent-10-25-x-1-5

It's easy to spot his influences, and I like the way he so effortlessly blends these influences together. His current drummer is excellent but I must say I prefer his old bass player, Eric Czar. I've been to a couple of his gigs and am really looking forward to the next one!
Strip club round the back of the venue...
............. and you have to go into the strip bar to get to the toilets - terrible layout........... You've really got to play well in that venue because the lure of someone playing with their 45's in the next bar is very distracting.

Have you tried Steve? - highly recommended - http://www.stevesamps.co.uk/
Hello Boys... just saying hello cos haven't been around for a while (been busy) and I noticed that most of Basschat was in here anyway here's a nice pic of me playing a really beautiful 200 year old german double bass that was provided by the promoter at my gig in Hamburg over the weekend. I didn't use an amp so sorry for the topic derail This bass is insured for €30,000 it was a bit heavy but not as bad as an Ampeg
I think you'll find that bass was once owned by Mr A Hitler which he played through his Ampeg. It's quite well known the Ampeg was the amp of choice for his entire Panzer AbteilungAmpeg 51 Division (Armoured Attack Ampeg's) which crushed the shoulders of all the inferior lightweight attack amp carrying troops the allied forces were forced to go into combat with. -

I don't use Ampegs because they were the amps of Hitler's choice and probably played their part in leading him to believe he was master of the universe. -
Is that Laurence Archer, as in Wild Horses? I loved his band Stampede in the Eighties -- they were great but never seemed to get anywhere. Cheers Mark
Yes, he used to play with the great Mr Lynott Stampede has just reformed with Clive on drums and they've just finished recording their latest album. They're both also in a side project band called AWE, with Paul Williams on vocals - http://paulwilliams-uk.com/index.html AWE are playing tonight in KT15 - drop me a PM if you want to know more
I know that Pete has been reported as being out of UFO due to there being something wrong with his liver but that must be 2 year`s by now. As someone on here more than likely knows him, is the guy ok? Any sign of him returning to the band? The reason I`m asking is that they are on the High Voltage concert on Sky arts and they don`t the same without old Pete. Jez
I'm meeting up for a beer tomorrow with a couple of guys that used to play in UFO (Clive Edwards & Lawrence Archer) who still keep in touch with Pete & Phil so I'll find out for you
So, would a TE 300w head running a Compact be OK?
It would be very ok, but I'd still explore what lightweight heads can do for your tone - and back! I now do 1 journey from my car into the venue with Compact in one hand, amp in shoulder bag, bass & effects board in other hand.

I have a Compact and love it's retro sound. It has quite a bit of treble range for a 1x15 so it might suit you. If you want more top end, go for a Super Twelve, Big One or Big Baby. Any of them will be better than a 4x10.

I think the necks look really nice in their own right, and would sell despite the heavy coating of snake oil..............

ID this Fender "P" 5 string bass
Hamster replied to oldslapper's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Saw this and quite fancied one for a backup 5 string. Not seen these before though. Will contact the seller at some point, but thought I'd ask on here first. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Guitar-Fender-Precis...#ht_1160wt_1137
Well, apart from it not being a Fender bass, or a precision bass of any kind, and it seems the seller has copied somebody else's listing photos I'd say it was as straight as a die -
+ a big 1 on the JJ's - they're excellent a well priced. Nothing should rattle, they'll say you dropped it or something.
