1. Go for the band. You can always go study bass somewhere at a later date.
2. Have you also considered ACME cabs?
3.
There was a post in November from noirpunk who'd just got an endorsement with Vintage. It's in there somewhere in the 'General' topics. I can't work out how to do a link.
http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;+endorsement
4. I have a Vintage P bass. Very very good indeed. The neck is 1/2 way between a P and a J, weight is nice, all hardwear good, a very nice overall package. I also have an SX P bass and it's considerably better than that. If you're not fussy about the compromise neck it's just about on par with a MIM P bass.
5.
I spent the first 23 years of my life in Cwmbran (Llanyravon) from 1963 - 1987. Great jazz scene (not) !!
Where you the only Carrot Miner in the village?
6. As you're not asking for something that's versatile, and you play rock and heavier stuff, I'd go for the Sub. In fact, if you snipe about on eBay, you'll get a Stingray within your budget.
7. Hi! - Nadolig Llawen, croeso i Basschat
8. Funny, I've only heard of one other person having a problem with the WT800 and even after several attempts it wasn't right? Maybe a bad batch? What about a WT550? - My one has never missed a beat, it puts out 500w into 4ohms and mutes if you put the volume down to 0
9.
Just thought I'd give this reprobate a bump and let you know he's totally transformed me as a bassist in just over 6 months. Recommend Bren to anyone in W Yorks. 10 mins walk from Shipley train station.
He's even put up a picture of you in his gallery - you're nearly famous Joe!
10. You should find something like your circuit here :- http://www.fender.co.uk/support/wiring_dia...parts_lists.php
11. I've played around with that technique, but still way off being confident to use it elsewhere than practice
12. This seems to be in your ballpark, and it'll leave more money left over for a decent cab http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=26831
13. I think what cabs you match to the head make an enormous difference. With my old Seco Neo cabs, my WT550 was quite warm on a flat EQ. With my recently acquired BFM Omni15TB I had to make quite a big change in the EQ to get the warmth back. Running the EQ flat with the BFM was very Hi-Fi.
14.
does somebody know anything about tech soundsystemp heads? i'm going to buy the graphic 625 head by tech ss...but i can't find NOTHING on the web!!!
I don't, but I know a man who does............... 16.
Just interested as to how many of our members have joined/actively use Talkbass! Personally I've never felt the need to use it as I find this forum a lot more relevant and informative. The idea of dealing with our inferior trans-atlantic brethren doesn't exactly appeal to me either! Actually, on that note, I'm just wondering what gear I'd currently be using had it not been for Basschat. I can't even begin to think how much this forum has affected my buying (and selling) habits Danny
I browse quite a bit, but don't contribute much. Same as you, Basschat is more relevant for me, but you get wider gear discussion over there. As for "inferior trans-atlantic brethren" - that's not a view I share. I've bought a few things from guys on TB and have found everyone - so far - polite and helpful. Same as you Toasted, I think it's quite well run/moderated and very very informative - IF - you can find the information!!
17.
Will do, has anyone else fixed one?
I remember this problem being discussed before. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...&+aphex http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=21531&hl=aphex Can't see it being too hard if you have a bit of electronics experience?
18. I bought a nice Trace Elliot amp from Louis - a pleasure to do business with - cheers!
19.
It's definitely a Mark IV. I had a Mark V AH250, which looks similar, but I recognise the subtle differences. If you can find Mark V details, they'll be the same. From memory, you've got two 250 watt amps into 4 ohms. They can be run full range, bi-amp or stereo. EDIT: If you got to this page http://www.trace-elliot.co.uk/support_3.ph...g=GB&lan=UK and choose "AH 500X Series 6", that document should give you a fair amount of relevant information.
Thanks for that I've always fancied having a Trace but don't really know one from the other. Voxpop - I pm'd wthin 4 mins of the ad going up - if it makes you feel better ^_^
20. As described, it's well used but in reasonable nick for it's age. I'm struggling to find info / manuals / schematics for it. I think it's a Mark IV and has the Mono Full Range / Mono BiAmp / Stereo Full Range output switch. Just got to find a few bits for it and I'll see how it works with my twin BFM cab build (after I've finished putting in the new kitchen!) I'm in most of Christmas / New Year if you want to pop around and play through it
