2. I think the price is ok too. Drop him an e-mail and see if he'll take an offer? Hamster
3. The contact the neck makes with the body makes a difference in tone - the more contact the better. When I shim a neck I use several layers of very thin shielding tape to make more of a 'wedge' shape to optimise the contact, a bit like this: ______ __________ ______________ __________________ A professional luthier I'm not - but it seems to make sense Hamster
4. I'm pretty impressed with my Line 6 LowDown Studio 110 (12" x 12" x 12") Worth a try at a bass shop near you perhaps? Hamster
5. Ok, I'll be the first to suggest a Lakland, a superb low B and they easily out-growl a very growly thing Hamster
6. Hi - welcome home! Hamster
7. Just remove the old laquer, spray with neck amber to the desired colour and then re-laquer. Hamster Edit: - link added http://reranchstore.stores.yahoo.net/fennecam.html
8.
Nice bass matey, but why the Fender decal? Is it that important? A bass is a bass, a good bass is a good bass. Before, your instrument was a great SX, now its a mediocre Fender at first glance.
Because the SX one rubbed off when I sanded it down and I had an old decal in the bits box. I was tempted to get a custom decal made up similar to this one but couldn't be arsed to wait. And don't tell me you're happy with an orange neck, even if it is a good bass for the price Hamster
9. You can record CD's as MP3 tracks with the bundled Windows Media Player and then just copy them to you Tascam. Open the media player, go to Tools, Options, Rip Music to set the ripped format. Hamster
10. That's a pretty  lookin' bass! I'll start droppin hints to me missus Hamster
11. Hi John Try these settings: input = 3 o'clock low bass = 10 o'clock Bass = 2 o'clock Mid = 5 o'clock high mid = 2 o'clock treble = 1 o'clock sub harmonics = 9 o'clock Also, make sure you have the deep, bright, eq and sub buttons pressed in. That should give you a reasonable starting point, but trial and error of course with the variables of your bass, its output, the acoustics of the room, placement of the cabs etc. If it's too boomy then roll off the low bass a bit and raise the mids. Hamster
12. Well I had a go at Pimp my Bass too The neck was just too orange for me so I rubbed it down. That also cocked up the decal so I put on the obligatory Fender one. The Badass II bridge meant that I had to shim the neck to suit. The SX pickups were quite good actually but I had some Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders in the bits box so they went on too. I do like torty plates so a secondhand one of those got a new body to live on. Topped off with some LaBella Deep Talkin flats it sounds pretty good Hamster
13. The EMG's require 25k audio taper pots. If it's a 'bitsa' bass then you might have the usual 250k or 500k pots which wont work properly. Hamster
I am an old fashioned soul who believes music should have rhythm and melody. If you cant hum it, it is not a tune and if it is not a tune then it becomes a random selection of notes, sometimes played very fast and with great technical ability, but it is not music.
I'm in bed with you but with one leg out Not my precise cup of tea but I'm open to almost everything. As you live in the past, do you still have all your gear insured for witchcraft, fire and Luddites Hamster

20. Here's a handy speaker impedance calculator I found on the web:- http://www.duncanamps.com/technical/impedance.html Hours of fun Hamster
21.
No. If the cab is currently 8-ohms then: If the speakers are all 4-ohm then they will get 8-ohms by having two strings of 4 speakers = 16-ohms in parallel, which brings it back down to 8-ohms. The speakers can't be 8-ohms each because you can't make 8-ohms total. If the speakers are 16-ohms then you would have two groups of 4 speakers in parallel = 4-ohms connected in series which adds up to 8-ohms. The speakers can't be 32-ohms because you can't make 8-ohms total.
Now you say that - I've sat down with a piece of paper and I think you're right. However - if you have a stereo amp that goes down to 2 ohms AND the speakers are all 8ohm then you might be in business. Parallel wire the 8ohm speakers into 2 stacks of 4 and that will give you 2ohms on each stack. Hamster
22.
where the hell did you find a 4ohm 8x10?
He hasn't - but he wants one As above, should be able to do it with re-wiring. Hamster
23.
Right guys,so say for instance i chose a bass for 600dollars....with conversion at current rates and all other import taxes/duties added....what would i be looking at pound-wise???????Cheers Craig
Whatever your total shipped price is, convert it to £ and add about 22% for the various taxes.
