I agree with everything you've written here... unfortunately. For the first time in 3 or 4 years, I bought an issue of BGM - I won't be buying another. I used to love buying the defunct Bassist magazine back in the day and when that stopped, moved to Bass Player and BGM for a few years before becoming disgruntled at the amount of advertising pages. Of course, I certainly understand why the adverts are in there - it's just that, as you say, times have changed and YouTube as well as a whole host of other outlets have changed the game.

We played with a band in Bristol recently and they were so loud, people were leaving the venue. Suspicions and worries initially arose when I watched the drummer screwing one of his drum pedals into the stage floor - and then he started smashing the bass drum during their sound check. It was just so horrifically loud - it really ruined the night.

It sounds like something that would be rejected from the qualifying rounds for Eurovision -

Congrats mate. I've had 4 of them over the course of 22 years... sold them each time because, despite loving the way they look, I had the same right hand playing problems. Mental that I had 4 of them! Nice shed too.

Fodera Flame Maple Emperor 6 Bolt-On No trade offers at all on this please This bass features a Walnut body, Ash tone block, and Ebony fingerboard, giving it a tone that is warm, yet punchy and articulate, with a deep low end and clear, bell-like highs. 33” scale length and 17.5 string spacing make this bass very comfortable to play for hours on end. This instrument also features a Flame Maple top with wonderfully tight flame, as well as an Ebony ramp to match the fingerboard. I have the trussrod cover - I just prefer to leave it off the bass. https://fodera.smugmug.com/Newborn-Gallery-Vol-IV/Newborn-949/ This bass is located in Bournemouth, Dorset. I will ship at buyers cost/risk. According to my bathroom scales, the weight is 10.8lbs. Body Woods Emperor Walnut Body No Tone Block Flame Maple Top (Solid) Neck Woods Ebony Fingerboard 3-pc. I agree. And the black pickguard looks great on it too.

That is stunning. Congratulations. Beautiful instrument.

...I'll give you Jim's email at Fodera. He has been great throughout... very, very, very good salesman too

Cheers Ped. So excited about playing this bass!

Thanks a lot man - I'm quite conservative and wanted something understated. As ridiculous as that sounds given it's a Fodera!
-
Haha - I believe the weight is just shy of 9.5lbs because I had it chambered.

Thanks a lot. I’ve got to wait until December to pick it up but it’ll make a nice Christmas present I guess. Brazilian Hickory is pretty hard - I googled it when ordering the instrument and it said it was a dense wood.

Here is my Fodera Brazilian Hickory Emperor 6 Elite. I know and acknowledge that they're not for everyone but I'm so excited about collecting this instrument. https://fodera.smugmug.com/Newborn-Gallery-Vol-V/Newborn-1810/

I had an AMAZING 2013 US Standard Fender Jazz which to me was every bit as good as the Foderas, Overwaters, ACGs, Modulus basses, etc. I've owned. I only sold it because I transitioned 100% to a 6er. It really was a case of playing a few (around 20 I'd estimate) until I found 'the one'.

I deinfitely get it’s not everyone’s thing. This is a short clip a guy recorded on his iPhone at a show we did in June. It’s really quite hard for us to explain what we do live to be honest. http://listen.minuspilots.com/

Here we are mate - it's definitely not to everyone's tastes! https://minuspilots.bandcamp.com/album/seeking-the-spheres

I was in the same boat but I'm now 11 months in with a brilliant and super reliable drummer. We're a bass and drums duo playing original material touching the realms of modern classical/ambient/post-rock - ideally there would be three of us but quite frankly, I don't think we will bother with another member now because it's just too easy being the two of us. We turn up when we say, let each other know in good time if something does come up, etc. No nonsense at all. We're playing dates in France, Netherlands and Belgium in October and have a show in New York 5 December. It's been a great experience.

What is your budget and would you consider second hand?

A 1996 Mexican sunburst Fender Jazz I used for about two years before buying an American sunburst Fender Jazz.
