I find a Fuzz Face type fuzz more accurate than a big muff type fuzz for the bass parts.
Mmm, not sure I'd agree with you there, seeing as how Chris does actually use a Sovtek Big Muff, though if it works for you, then fair enough! But yeah, there is quite a bit of fancieness going on with the studio tracks, and there is to some extent with the live aswell. Nonetheless, I do love his sound!
Much more of a heavy overdrive. It has a full EQ with variable mids so you can get a wide range of sounds from it, I find I can get a good early Muse sound from it.
That is just what I'm looking for! So it's kind of a Cave esq distortion? Sounds perfect! I'll send you a PM
Welcome to Basschat! We've all been there and there's loads of encouragement avalable. Best step by far, and well worth the investment, is to get a few lessons from proper tutor. Bass present wise, Ms Oldgit got me an Auralex Gramma pad to go under my rig on stage. Looking forward to trying that out in a real gig. Oh and my new Japanese P bass arrived
What he said! That's where I started out (Except it was a Jazz, and it was November last year) and it is a great starting point! Lessons definitely help, though there's no harm in teaching yourself the basics! Welcome to the low-end of music!
The Nightwatchman (i.e. Tom Morello)
Which album? Got them both, and I have to say, he efinitely has improved for the Fabled City, though One Man Revolution is awesome too!

Yeah, the Supermassive Wiki and the Muse Forums are pretty hanfy in finding out gear and settings, though I don't think I can afford his rig! I might have to nick my mates OBD3 and have a go at Futurism then, cheers guys!

I officially recieved my VMJ, and my sister did me an IOU for a case, as it hadn't been delivered to her flat yet. Not bad!
Agreed - Showbiz has some awesome tones, but ask about Chris' tone, even from that era, and people will always assume you mean the Hysteria tone for some reason ¬_¬
I suppose it's cos it's one of the really well known Muse tracks. I'm still trying to figure out how to get the right sound for Muscle Museum. Also, I do want the distortion that he uses on Futurism. Sounds epic!

I assume you're talking about the Digitech jobbie? It's basically a stompbox with settings of differnet synthyness, and you can control all the aspects like the sensitivity. I can get a pretty Hysteria-y sound with my Big Muff, Synth Wah (but fairly subtley) although something to make it a little more springy would help. His sound is really varied though, so there's stuff like Escape, where it's not hugely effected, but then on the flip side, there's Easily, which is really fuzzy, with a really slow Auto-Wah ('least I think so).

I think I'll bring me camera and take piccies during the day.

I think I've played that one. There's a music shop near me which specialises in Corts (i.e Practically only sells Corts, I think the bloke is obsessed...) , and I went in with me guitarist to have a browse around. I went for all the Jazz shaped ones, this being one. It was pretty good, and it was all well built and stuff. It was a while ago, so I can't quite remember the sound, but if you want, I can go in tomorrow, see if they've still got it, and see how it sounds/is.

Nice one mate, the 29th is nice and booked now!
Well done BB! If anyone needs a lift either from North Nottingham or from the station give me a shout. I'll have LWTAIT with me, but can fit one or two more into the people carrier.
Might take you up on that, depending on whether I'm catching the tam and bus with BB from the station or not.

Sorted. I'll go have a look around town tomorrow, see if I can find anything good. -

2 weeks sounds fine to me. Is there a limit on sticker size? I've found a good one, but it's mahusive (3" x 10"), and I don't want to take up too much space. -
I've always wanted to try a ricky good idea
What he said.

Wicked. I know what I'm putting on it. Would a list or schedule be a good idea? So we know who's got the bass and when? -

Isn't there a book of some sorts doing the rounds in the recycling section? Maybe make this the Basschat Communal Bass, and everyone who gets it can sign it or something? Then again, I'm being fantastical (is that a word?) again....
