No one in Pink Floyd can actually 'sing'... For example....

Quick update - pictures to follow. Fitted the HipShot extender, then some new Hartke 095s. Plugged it in to my 15watt practice amp... Nearly blew the windows out...! I have to play it with the volume on zero...
This - WD40 is remarkable stuff but is a magnet to clag and goit. I use Servisol Super 10.
Ha ha ha - my two new favourite words!! Clag and goit will soon be appearing in everything techinical I write ....

So, so cool... Maybe don't let the kids hear some of the lyrics, though....

Do you/your band rehearse with full gigging set-up?
Johnm93 replied to Lozz196's topic in General Discussion
When we chip in and hire a studio, yes because all the gear is there. Plus, guitarists always seem to bring more. In the drummist's front room - ah, no. At open mic nights - i.e.rehearsing in public - usually, yes. -
Bought bits and pieces from the Epsom shop. All very satisfactory and helpful people. Shame one bod on the 'phone ruins the reputation...
Hi all, my name is Andrew, I'm 48 and took up learning the bass about 9 months ago. I had never played a musical instrument before I started (except for 5 mins with a bugel when in the Boys Brigade as a kid), but I think I'm slowly starting to get the hang of it. At the moment I have no intention of ever being any more than a very amature bedroom bassist, but never say never. Probably just as wel, l as even though I may think I have a piece sorted, as soon as the other half walks in the room, it all goes horribly wrong. I am currently using a Squier Mustang with an Ashdown Tourbus 15 (I think) amp. String wise I'm having a bit of fun experimenting with Rotosound 77s. But will probably go back to tapewounds. I had D'addario black nylons - loved the tone, but a bit to flexible for me (maybe just need to practice more). Cheers Andrew
Mate, Welcome. That was me two years ago... In two bands now...
Anyone know of a good rehearsal room (pa only) situated somewhere between KT10 (elmbridge, esher area) and the west side of Croydon ?
Have you tried Rock Bottom in West Croydon...?

Back to the HG Wells open mic night last night with Apoplexy. That's my fith live performance, and I did actually do well, if I say so myself...

Right - the Squire is back from a re-wire job. The Seymour Duncans are in, all the wires are new - and neater - and th new volume pot is in. One problem - the pot is a lot larger than the original. So, a neat slot was cut. Boom - all good so far. John.

You will enjoy it. It will go by in about 8 seconds. Everyone watching will tell you it was great. That's what happened to me last month, anyway...
Played as a threesome at the regular open mic night at The Queen's Head in Brixton last Tuesday. We were fourth on a set of ten acts - three songs each is the rule. Nailed it, if I say so myself...
Played as a threesome at a different open mic night last night. Almost un-nailed it this time... Hey ho...

Just back from reheasals this arvo. Two new songs plus, shockingly, a cover. A first for us... One of the new songs is in 3/4 - another first...
Not glum - mean and moody! That's cool :-)
Ha Ha - thanks Shell. Settle for 'concentrating'....
Nice! Looks like a cool room. Hope those tall ceilings weren't too much of a sound issue. Blue
The sound was actually very good, according to the people I spoke to afterwards. All the kit was top stuff, but the important ingredient was the house sound guy - really knows his stuff...
Perhaps procuring a music stand would cheer you up? It has worked for many a Bass Chatter i am led to believe
Ha Ha ! Not being dragged into that one...
Thats the correct look for the bassist, nailed it I'd say.
Thanks...! We did an open Mic night in Brixton on Tuesday and I actually waved when the room clapped. Progress...

Following up on my earlier "First ever gig" thread, evidence has come to light... I did enjoy it, honest. ..

Should I go to Mansons guitar emporium today?
Johnm93 replied to Marvin's topic in General Discussion
Quite. He should have posted the question on Mumsnet instead.
He did .... saw it myself... -
Great stuff! Top tip: whenever I make a mistake I shift the blame immediately by frowning at the drummer and shake my head in disgust.
You've not seen the size of him...!
Nice one! We're still just messing about at the local open mic each week (honing our craft, I think it's called... ), but are angling for a spot at a local festival some time during the Summer for my first "proper" gig.
A Festy sounds like the way to go, Tony M. Our drummist has some Go-pro footage of the set. There are "..a few jazz.chords.." apparently. I think he means busking bass lines....
