1. Hi Col, Great offer, thanks buddy, but I'm now an evangelist to that clanky Dingwall sound!
2. No probs, let me know when you're in the country, I can give you location details so you can have a try!
3. Hi Svend, I've just put it on with a regular nylon strap - no fancy alcantara, suede or grippy padded straps - and it's perfectly balanced. Not a single droop whatsoever! I'm based in Sheringham, Norfolk in the UK but I can take the bass to my workplace in Norwich if you need to try it out. I'm kind of assuming that you're in the UK too but, if you are elsewhere, I can get an overseas courier quotation. Thanks for the interest.
4. Hi bassman334, let me know if you're interested in having another pop at it! And Dan, thanks for the kind words. But you're not having my Combustion!
5. No trades though, just money!
6. FINAL PRICE DROP: JUST £1,850! Hi fellow BassChatters! Did you go to the LBGS and coo over the Dingwalls for hours? Did you say to yourself "One day it will be mine. Oh yes, it will be mine." Want to save about a grand on the cost of ordering a brand new one? As much as it pains and sickens me to have to sell one of my babies, this one has to go. I only bought her in November from JonnyM and fell deeply and immediately in love with her. I then ruined our monogamous bliss by having a threesome with a Dingwall Combustion and discovered that the longer scale is a better match FOR ME! Now I have to sell the SJ5 and spec up a brand new Ferrari Yellow Afterburner with Wenge neck and speedo dots, or I might just explode! I work in a guitar shop (as you'll see from the pictures below) and seldom see anything quite as special as a Dingwall in the flesh. Sorry about the slightly pinkish hue from my phone cam btw, it seems to have had an off day! The family photo above is much more representative of the maple board colouring. Great bass with a sensible scale - you can actually use normal strings instead of having to buy special fan fret strings! Currently sporting a brand new set of Fender Nickelwound 5s. This is one fat-toned beast with a great neck, excellent balance - exceptionally easy to play... A few marks on the body but nothing serious - virtually impossible to photograph! (A new one with these specs would cost you over £1000 more) Shipping: Free next working day UK insured courier delivery, I will consider sending within Europe at the buyer's expense. The bass will be properly packaged using actual guitar shipping boxes I can pick up at my workplace. No trades or low-balling please ;-) Full specs., incl. extras: •Fanned frets - 35"-32" scale length •Black high gloss thin finish •Alder Body with tone chambers •White pearl pickguard •Matching Headstock •Maple fingerboard •Black blocks •Maple neck - satin finish •Volume (pull/passive), Pickup selector (Bridge, Both parallel, Both series, Neck) •Super Fatty pickups with active Glockenklang 2-band 18v preamp - Bass, Treble w/Passive Cut. •Chrome Custom Bridge •Chrome Hipshot ultralight tuners • Hipshot X-tender on B-string •Weight 9lb 2oz •Gig bag and tools Check out the pics and don't be afraid to ask questions about this superb instrument...
7.
My favourite five string so far is my dingwall. It just sounds so nice and is so easy to play. IMHO
+1 with Dingwalls. I'm lucky enough to work in a guitar shop and have access to all the trad stuff, Warwicks, MMs et al. Since I got my Super J5 and Combustion, I struggle to play anything else without missing the Dingwall's comfort and tone. My SR1205 hasn't been touched in 5 months!
8. And what a mighty fine beast she is, too!
9. Cheers guys, I feel welcome already!
10. Just joined to immerse myself in the low down community - and as a place to vent my spleen after hearing all the bass player jokes at work! My name's Ben, although angercat is fine, and I started messing around on guitars about 25 years ago. Always liked the bass but was needed for rhythm guitar duties in my first band. Suffice to say that I always had a tatty old shonker of a 4 string with a busted headstock laying around and it probably saw more action than the Jackson guitar I owned! Fast forward a whole heap of time and you'll see me go from working in a bank for 17 years (ugh) to being an estate agent (double ugh) until about 18 months ago, when I decided to stop doing jobs that make people want to hate me and applied for a job in my local guitar shop (27 miles is local here in Norfolk!). Cookes Band Instruments in Norwich has been my spiritual home ever since and has allowed me the unique opportunity to play some beautiful instruments, get to know some fantastic people - including BC's very own Dood (morning Dan!) - and get paid for the pleasure. Just don't tell my boss that I'd do it for free! Instrument wise, I like sleek, modern stuff the best, whilst still doffing my proverbial cap to the styles and the tones of the vintage forebears. I went from that shonker to an Ibanez SR205 about 10 years ago. Since I've been at Cookes I've upgraded to an Ibanez SR705 and again to an SR1205 (anyone noticing a pattern?!) - a mindblowingly great bass! Also have a Chinese Tokai Thunderbird in vintage white and a Steinberger Spirit XT-25, although the less said about these the better! Anyway, thank you for allowing me to join the fold and I look forward to waffling away to you all at 3am during a huge, caffeine-induced bout of insomnia! Cheers guys, Ben.
11. Hey Jonny, Do you still have this Dinger? I'd like to buy and am not a time wasting a&@ehole!
