"You shall not covet your neighbours wife..." (Exodus, 20:17). Sod that for a lark, I'd do a damn sight more than covet her. I'd whisk her off to the Maldives (and not on EasyJet either) and I'd buy her as much Ferrero Rocher as she can get down her neck. Every time I look at her pictures I can hear birdies singing. I want...but I can't have. Unrequited love is such a pain in the arse, sob, sniff.
I might... Just played it for a while and spent five minutes just doing the 'ringing bells' thing playing behind the bridge. The clarity of this bass is amazing... You hear everything.
You might? Wow, that's great! How does a standing order for, say, £10 per month sound? lol. Seriously, mate, GLWTS, it's a stunning instrument.

I've been using a Line 6 LowDown LD15 combo for a year or two now, which is pretty decent, but I think it's time for a change. I like the look of the Ampeg BA112 combo and I'm wondering what you peeps think of it. I tend to play a mix of music; 60's R&B, funk, blues, etc, pretty much everything except heavy rock/metal, if this has any bearing. I'm interested in finding out about the Ampeg's 5 presets feature, too...is this anything like the Line 6's Clean, R&B, Rock and Grind amp models? My budget is limited (yeah, thanks Xmas, lol) to £250-300. Cheers.

I like a nice singlecut but this reminds me of the whale off spongebob squarepants...actually, no, the whale off spongebob squarepants is better looking.

Pros and cons, innit? I think it's great to have access to such a huge array of teaching aids. I, myself, have loads of tab books. But I can't help thinking that there was something special about the hours I spent with a cassette recorder/worn out stylus trying to cop riffs and lines. Ok, putting aside the dewy-eyed 1980's reminiscing, I think that paying your dues with less help can actually assist you in your development; you have to focus and concentrate more on the music. Back then I hated the fact that I made mistakes and couldn't play with 100% accuracy the music I was listening to but, in hindsight, these "mistakes" assisted me to find MY voice on the bass rather than helping me "speak" in the voice of another.

Here's a nice interview with Mick from back in the mid '80's which covers lots of different ground. He just comes across as a genuinely decent bloke. For those who aren't aware the Chris Jisi book "The Fretless Bass" has a section on Mick in which he talks about his approach to the instrument, and it includes a short style study; interesting stuff. http://theartofparties.livejournal.com/33157.html

Hi Peeps I'm just wondering if anyone out there has any experience, feedback and opinion on the Chinese made 4-string Warwick Alien Deluxe? Build, construction quality, playability, pro and cons, etc. Cheers.
More bass tones for those yet to hear SMV... have fun checking out the gear!
A trio made in bass heaven, I love all 3 guys! Purely a personal opinion but, for me, Marcus pips Stan and Victor at the post. Ok, less technical facility but Mr Miller's sense of taste and groove is sick!

I think i first bought the CD back in about 2005, and I tend to listen to it after maxing out on the electrified instrument, you know, breath of fresh air kinda thing? To be honest I think I expected more people to be aware of it; Hellborg, to me, is pop music, lol. I definitely know where you're coming from though, Howiebass, with "new" music. I've been aware of Victor Bailey for years and years but never listened to any of his stuff...until a couple of days ago. The tracks "Slippin' n' Trippin'" and "Kid Logic" are unbelievable!

I was a fan of Japan, mainly because of Mick, and I can recall watching the Oil on Canvas video (hehe, remember the days VHS?) when it was released around 1984. I was about 15 or 16 years old. Now, when some of the contemporary virtuoso bassists shred you can still kinda get your head around what they're doing (variations of rapid slaps, taps, etc) but, 30 years later, I still have almost NO idea of what Mick was thinking about and doing on his bass. It was as if he didn't know how to play the instrument, lol. But play he most definitely could! After a few years of torturing myself, bass in hand, sat next to the record player (Wikipedia it, kids) lifting the stylus on and off trying to nail bits of Mick's' lines I decided to leave it alone, preferring to just enjoy his music. In fact I'm going to listen to Oil on Canvas right now...and my bass is staying in its' case! You played a big part in my childhood...RIP Mick, I miss you loads, mate.
We can't just take your word for it...although the fact that its all acoustic and capable of a strong reaction is interesting in itself. Got any clips?
Hmmmmm...a reply that's interesting in itself. My posted comment is entirely subjective (" One of the sweetest, most atmospheric and HEAVIEST acoustic CD's I've ever heard!) so you can indeed take my word for it irrespective of whether you, or anybody else, has listened to it and agrees with my opinion.

Jonas Hellborg, Buckethead and Michael Shrieve..."Octave of the Holy Innocents"... One of the sweetest, most atmospheric and HEAVIEST acoustic CD's I've ever heard!

Hi Big shout out for the Squier CV Precision! I picked one up here a few weeks ago used, but in perfect condition, and it even had a chrome ashtray added! A great looking, great sounding budget instrument...for £230 including delivery! Tbh it's still be a bargain at the RRP of around £330-360.

That moment you realise there's no point in trying different basses...
Scott S replied to Clarky72's topic in Bass Guitars
Yeah... not sure I've fully convinced mrstheelvy that I need all mine, but I think I'm getting there. She can at least hear the difference between a P-bass strung with flats and a Ricky strung with steel rounds...
God bless 'em. Mine had me flicking through the ads here yesterday looking for Stingrays with "nice coloured bodies". This is a positive sign, as I am hankering for a Stingray with a nice coloured body -
That moment you realise there's no point in trying different basses...
Scott S replied to Clarky72's topic in Bass Guitars
I really hope that one day I do come to this point of realisation. Mine is kicked off by something as seemingly innocuous as a change of CD. If I put on some Rush...?then I want a Fender Jazz or Rick, if I listen to some Chic...? Stingray, some Patitucci...? Yammy TRB-6, etc, etc. Even my wife has cottoned on to this...(as Jamerson thuds away in the background)..."Precision today then is it, love?" -
Hmmmmm.....it's reminding me of Dali's "Persistence of Memory" painting. If I had $4000 to spend on a bass, or $4,000,000 to spend on a painting, it wouldn't go on either of them!

Shem and I recently traded basses (his Fender Precision for my Spector Euro). He is an absolute gentleman to do business with. I have no experience of trading on BC so Shem organised the collection and delivery of BOTH instruments. Cheers, buddy, I'm so pleased that you're loving my old Spector as I am the Precision!

Is there any 6-string bass tab out there?
Scott S replied to Scott S's topic in Theory and Technique
There's a guy called Todd Johnson, I think he's got some books out on 6 string playing. If you want to let me know any particular songs you want tab for, I can see if I can do it, I've got the Patitucci book, and can tab that for you or something.
Hi bud Jesus, I'd given up all hope on the 6 string tab! lol. Particular Patitucci tracks would be the likes of...On the Corner, Our Family, Searching/Finding, Wind Spirit, etc Cheers Scott -
Hi Scott Glad you like the build! Really like the spec for the single cut, Quite fancy one myself sometime! I must agree with you on the fact that Robbie is definitely a top bloke and a real pleasure to deal with. As for the single cut all I can say is go for it you won't be disappointed
Yeah, mate, I am VERY tempted to go for it! The only drawback...? The bitter/sweet wait for it to be completed! Hmmmm, maybe taking up Buddhism should have been my New Year resolution instead of packing in the nicotine replacement chewing gum, lol.
Too bad, got a Musicman Bongo HS 4 string to trade.
You know what...? The Bongo still is one bass that I'm really undecided about. I bet they're great to handle, and I'm sure that they sound amazing, but whenever I see one I don't know if I want to play it or play WITH it. I was a child of the 70's and never did get a Star Wars Han Solo Millenium Falcon. Nah, it says more about me that I would have gone for your Precision, buddy. GLWYS, mate.
