Just asked my son. He can’t name a single bass player and has never heard of Mark King or John Taylor. Hang on a minute… he just said Sting. He knows Macca, likes the Beatles but didn’t know he plays bass. He could name 10 rappers and 10 DJs but I’ve not heard of half of them.

I love the idea that the general public would know that lot. Maybe Ant and Dec Jaco ( and his moonwalk) Windy Miller Victor Meldew Larry Grayson Tigger and Poo Boots the Chemist Weymouth Kim Jong that Korean bloke with the dodgy barnet Paul McCartney

By all accounts what Pete Best lacked in the drumming department he more than made up for in the looks department and attracted Epstein’s attention.

I think that if you look up “forum” in the Oxford dictionary it says Forum: A remnant of the early days of the interweb. Place for grumpy old men to argue. I would think that the yoot are on SnapGram or TokTik or whatever is the latest app of the moment.

Just my tupence worth: 1. She sounds pretty good to me. If I were a young lass rather than an old(ish) bloke I would definitely think yeah I would like to play like her. 2. When festivals first announced a more equal split between male/female artists I thought it was a bit unfair and artists should be judged on merit alone. I have to admit to being wrong on that one. The quality and number of all female bands has definitely been on an upward projection since.

caution mini rant! I don’t think this is confined to courier companies or large companies. The amount of times I have to clean up and fix work by builders or other trades (independents getting paid well) mechanics, monosyllabic service industry staff etc. I do everything possible myself now and only reluctantly use a “professional”. I’m not sure when or why this lack of professional pride or courtesy started but if you want a recipe to be miserable in life it’s guaranteed if you work purely for money and not the intrinsic pleasure of doing what you do well and taking pride in whatever you do (however humble it may be). Rant over Edit: From personal experience I don’t use courier companies for anything over around £50. Obviously this is not possible for a business. The state of that package is just shocking. The fact that someone could deliver that or process it through its journey without feeling a sense of shame or a professional responsibility to escalate the issue is pretty shocking.

To cover the holes for aesthetic reasons, unless it doesn’t bother you in which case you have somewhere to keep your lipstick.

Just get a custom scratch plate / pick guard (whatever term you prefer)

You would be surprised by how many people won’t use a phone these days and only text or use apps. Just Eat is just taking advantage of this. Never really understood it myself.

Doah. If I had known I would’ve ventured out to see you. Saw The Men They Couldn’t Hang a bunch of times in the late 1980s. I had no idea they were still going.

Good work Stubs. A perfectly composed and well spelled sentence.

How do you keep track of everything you've owned?

It would be prudent to take some photos of instruments and serial numbers for insurance purposes but in terms of previous belongings I don’t really have any record or a desire to do so. To be honest I am looking to downsize and am looking forward to getting rid of a lot of my possessions so am more preoccupied with getting rid rather than archiving. -
I think Family Affair was recorded during the pinnacle of Sly’s drug use and paranoia. Excessive overdubbing and constant reworking had pretty much worn the master’s out so the entire sound is down to excessive drug use.

I think the most appropriate comment I have heard about this was in a documentary about the Happy Mondays. I can’t remember who said it but they were asked who were the biggest casualties that they had ever worked with. They replied that the Happy Mondays were by a long shot as other artists were aware that they were living on the edge but the Happy Mondays appeared to have no concept of what the edge was never mind if they were living on it.

It’s a weird one with singers. Some lose their range, some seem to improve (or at least get more interesting voices). I’ve always found Sting to be a bit of a bellend but he just seems to improve with age (which is pretty annoying).

Recommend me some modern (or not) music with upright bass

i did reject it after 6 hours waiting to get a ticket for my son. if the price was shown increasing throughout the day i would not have waited (creating artificial demand) after his £135 limit was reached.
-
Absolutely. Plus if they have the technology to implement surge pricing then that same technology should keep the customers informed of the changing prices in real time. Let’s see what the real demand is if those waiting 4 hours know that they are going to be charged £350+
-
i will concede to all this as well as Massive Attack, Portishead et al

and have a monopoly. at this stage investigation by regulators is warranted.
-
I think it’s the way that it’s done that is the issue rather than the price. An analogy would be queuing up to buy a coffee. The board shows the price so you stand in line. Occasionally the coffee machine breaks down or some official takes you to the back of the line without an explanation. Eventually after much patience you reach the front expecting to pay £3 only to be told that it’s now £10 because of the ‘demand’ This is not a reasonable business model. If the coffee chain has a monopoly and they are using this model then questions should be raised.
