^ This If it was a custom order my gut feeling is that the customer would have specified the make and model of the pickups. If the bass is a keeper then getting it put right will be far easier than chasing the luthier. My honest opinion is by the time you have jumped through all the hoops you will be sick of the sight of the bass. Even if the luthier agrees to fit new pickups for free, I doubt that they will pay for shipping and taxes to and from Belgium. It would be far cheaper and far less of a ball ache to get someone locally to do the work. It’s just wood.

Looking at the influences this guy seems to think it’s still the 1980s when record companies were still throwing money at bands. Not sure I would want to be involved in any hard slog crawl to getting anywhere with this guy. Probably best hitching your wagon to the next taylor swift if you’re planning on hanging around with a diva.

I get it. I only really pick up a bass now when I need to work out a song as my kids are learning. I had plans to get back to playing with other people for the first time since uni but never quite managed it.

I watched the content. I think I am just too old to understand the TikTok generation. Boxers that can’t really box, musicians that could be replaced by AI and extremely smug and irritating presenters. I guess it’s a DIY approach and back in the day old farts like me said the same thing about Punk? Whatever its all the equivalent to junk food for me. I guess it has a purpose for busy people with a bewildering amount of other distractions but it’s all a bit pointless. A snake oil salesman got caught selling snake oil to people who want snake oil IMO. Bloke is a tit but IMO so are the people that consume this stuff.

John East or Retrovibe stinger? -
Agreed. Not sure about you but I would rather the person piloting any plane I was on or operating on me was paid more than the baggage handler or security guard. It gives a certain reassurance that they are getting rewarded because they are the best at what they do in a competitive environment. I certainly know that the buck stops with me in my own field and it does so because I have more knowledge and experience than the people passing the problem on. If we were all paid the same then why bother?

I don’t see many till operators sacrificing much of their youth studying for all hours, going into tremendous debt then later in life missing out on their kids growing up, working until the early hours, taking decisions that can lead to death or serious injury with all the stress that comes with this. I would quit my job tomorrow, let alone have spent all the hours and money to even get where I am if I could earn the same serving coffee. The people I know who earn more have sacrificed more, more time, more money, more stress and more risk. They deserve the extra. I started on the path and decided it wasn’t for me.

One thing I have noticed about time is some people use it wisely and some squander it. Some believe in delayed gratification and some want immediate fun. Some invest and improve their resources some don’t. Often the end results can be traced back to the use of time. I certainly squandered more of my time than many of my more successful friends and colleagues and don’t feel that I should have a slice of their cake.

Agreed. This and the inevitable media hype and associated stock market frenzy. One of my biggest concerns about AI other than the potential job losses is entering the a Kafkaesque world of utter babble. Phone based support has declined after covid for a lot of organisations and replaced by email. This is for sales, IT support, customer service etc. Email responses from a human are slow and inefficient compared with a phone call but when the response comes via AI we’re going to end up in a world of pain. There are limitations with a lot of the current AI systems already even if they are implemented correctly. When they are simply shoehorned in as a knee jerk reaction the end user experience will be horrible. Technology should be able to do some of the heavy lifting to make organisations more efficient. What it shouldn’t do is cut down a workforce at the expense of the customer experience. Technology is literally driving the population mad. It’s going to get worse before it gets better.

One of the biggest challenges is that heads of organisations get wind of whatever buzzwords are flavour of the month and start demanding IT departments introduce it into the company. They don’t really know anything about the technology or it’s variants nor what specific problems they are trying to solve but want AI or Cloud or feckkng RoboGubbinBiscuits and frequently bypass their internal IT teams seeing out “experts” (snake oil salesmen) to deliver the solution to the problem they haven’t yet identified. Can you imagine this in any other industry? Hello BigBuild inc were all extremely excited about RoboBlocks and how it can help in our new office block. Here’s a fat blank check.

Definitely packs a punch. Can linger a bit though (after taste). Think my favourite rum (particularly neat) is Diplomatico Might pour a little and join the party. Marcus Garvey - Burning Spear in the background.

I can relate to this. They are good musicians though and are not turgid. When it works, it really works but they don’t always hit the mark and then for me it does just seem too contrived. That said would rather there were more Beck types out there than re-hashed Beatles.

TBH for a used Fender this is not a bad idea. There are so many fakes out there buying online is becoming a gamble even for people who know what to look out for.

Personally the only thing I will be buying from the US is equities and not until Trump attempts to remove Powell and totally trashes the $ and the stock and bond markets in the process.

Am a little shocked by this news. Very sad. 😞

ebay is rapidly becoming scam central in the same way as facebook marketplace. items that are fake, items that are damaged or out of stock when they go cheap with no reserve, items that don’t even exist. easier to just not bother with it.
