  1. I don’t understand Fenders current strategy. The Squire CV basses I have played are frequently better than the MIM Performer’s. The Vintera, Nate Mendel and Flea MIM basses are excellent, IMO easily as good if not better than many of the USA built Fenders. Fender seem to have lost the plot in terms of price and marketing, which I feel is impacting the used market as MIM basses are still seen as being inferior to the USA models when many lines, the Vintera for example are premium basses. I sold my USA P before the Vintera. They were both good basses but the USA one was just a bit meh, bland with little character whereas the Vintera was a joy, bags of character and sounded fantastic. Edit: I don’t think the old hierarchy of Squire / MIM / MIJ / USA makes any sense anymore. Just buy the one that works for you at the best price. To answer the original question would I buy a 40th Aniversary Squire. No. There are 2 used Vinteras for sale on this forum at bargain prices. I would snap them up.
  2. Yep as I said they can and the aerodynes do. Tight fit and fiddly to change jack / pickups etc. There is always a trade off. Personally I think Sandberg have nailed it.
  3. They can eg The Aerodyne range. I guess it’s the traditional way of making them and the scratch plate and control plate covers the route anyway. There are pros and cons. I find rear cavities and covers a little ugly as well and have never been decided on the Jaco look of just a control plate either. It looks a bit “unfinished”.
  4. My basses are in the £750/800 second hand bracket. I’ve had cheaper ones that weren’t as pleasing to play and Bitsas that were excellent. Best bang for the buck was a Ray34. Most disappointing was a US Fender. The Mexican Vintera I had was much better.
  5. I take it the bass is passive in which case it’s to be expected.
  6. Wow. A lot of comments. Who knows the motivation without speaking with him. I have a couple of mates that have hobbies where they hang around exclusively with other blokes so they can talk about stuff that drives their wives/girlfriends mad or bores them rigid.
  7. They cost around £1700 plus new so not far off what the 2 basses were being sold for. I’m a bit gutted as keep hankering after a Thunderbird and was trying to decide whether to sell my MIJ Geddy Lee with Status Graphite neck to fund it but was too slow …. That’s a nice looking Jazz though.
