  1. Indeed. Good find. And in 100 years time there may be a prevailing climate of hardline religious orthodoxy. History has a way of making us all look stupid/perverted/ignorant/arrogant/ridiculous.
  2. The fuddy Duffy censors just restrict the choice. Sadly there is no arbiter for taste. If people reach for the Cheesestrings when there is Roquefort and aged cheddar on the platter then there must be a parable wrapped in an enigma somewhere to explain it. Maybe.
  3. So you went for the music rather than the sexual politics/titillation (delete as appropriate). I think what I am trying to say is what is deemed offensive is arbitrary. If it was left to the likes of the Mary Whitehouse brigade the world would be a different place. Max Bigraves would top the charts and Turner and Constable would adorn the Art galleries whilst Dali was banned.
  4. We’re Rockbitch offensive? Expressive? Pornographic?
  5. These boots are made for walkin’ - Nancy Sinatra
  6. Shudder have had to resort to flea-bay to sell this. If anyone knows a guitarist looking for a classic amp please let them know. Some provenance which may be of interest.
  7. The band played waltzing Matilda / The Pogues
  8. I think the important point here is intent to cause harm, which kind of links back to the topic title. If the motive behind a band or song is to explicitly inflict suffering on another sentient being then it becomes problematic. This is why I can’t really forgive Coldplay. Edit: This is humour for those that get off on outrage on the internet and skim read words in order to affirm their own narrative.
  9. Why do people always gravitate to extremes? I know some people that wouldn’t hang out with someone who voted Conservative or has strong Christian beliefs. It takes all sorts to have a cohesive society.
  10. The important thing is to recognise the humanity in others. I know plenty that are so wedded to their own personal crusade that they dismiss others who have a different perspective. Having a different viewpoint or political agenda doesn’t make someone else a monster.
  11. A bigot is someone who is intolerant of another holding a different option. Pretty much the entire planet these days.
  12. Yep that’s where the cultural capital comes in. I know many right on left wingers who are happy to mock the “chavs” and ridicule the “stupid”.
  13. Just popping my Marxist hat on for a moment but whilst the world is caught up in a tribal squabble over sexual, gender, racial and identity politics we forget that the common ground that unites us all is economic opportunity or lack of it. I once worked at a place where CV’s were routinely put in the bin based on the applicatants post codes. One of which was where I grew up. Lacking cultural capital is still sneered at by those that have a decent education and consider themselves “right on”. In short poverty is considered ugly. Financial poverty, poverty of opportunity etc. I think many people experience discrimination on a daily basis from all ethnicities and genders. It’s just hidden and subtle. That’s where the real battle lies.
  14. I’m quite sure the non-bigots of 2022 will be judged on their shortcomings by their more enlightened peers in 2080. History has a way of making buffoons of us all.
