  1. I think it’s a combination of age and work induced RSI. I’ve also always favoured the chunkier side of P’s. My Vintera ‘50s was the ideal profile previously. Another Bitsa is possible but I am trying to wean myself off tinkering and actually learn to play a bit better. A road worn Mendel may well fit the bill and yep I agree with the OP about pickup choice. I would prefer a warmer vintage tone.
  2. I think this is more down to familiarity. I’ve always had a P so swapping to a J just feels awkward. @Aidan63summed it up nicely.
  3. Is this auto correct playing up or a signature model that I am unaware of?
  4. Thanks for the response. I may look at a Bitsa with a Status Jazz neck. Has anyone played a Nate Mendel out of interest?
  5. I have always preferred a P bass but struggle with the chunkier neck these days. I bought a MIJ Fender Aerodyne Jazz a while back and replaced the pickups with Geezer Butler’s. Pretty much everything about this bass is spot on. The neck profile is perfect. It’s a joy to play. The only downsides are I don’t like the shape of a Jazz body. I find them awkward. It’s also too pretty and doesn’t look like it will take much punishment so I’m a bit precious with it. Does anyone know of a P bass with the same neck profile of the Aerodyne? It can be any make and I don’t mind if it’s already roadworn. Cheers.
  6. You could argue that most of us, in every walk of life and every profession “sell out” if by that you mean do stuff as adults that we swore we wouldn’t do as teenagers! Making a comfortable living playing music is hard enough. If your trying to do it with total integrity and no compromise I’m not sure it’s entirely possible once past the teenage years unless you have another revenue stream. For full disclosure I’m not a pro musician. It was obvious by the age of 19 that no one would pay good money to listen to my noodling.
  7. Well that’s Motörhead, The Jimi Hendrix experience as well as The Beatles out then …
  8. The Nate Mendel P’s get a lot of good press. They do a road worn version.
  9. Paris, Texas. Pretty much the whole way through https://youtu.be/Sd2EzQsZteA
  10. One monkey (don’t stop the show)/ Gillian Welch
  11. Three thing I have learned in life so far: No 1. The more I think I know about something, the more I realise I actually know very little. No 2. There is no universal truth. A theory stands until it is disproven. Ethics, Morality, Culture and values are subjective and forever changing. No 3. History makes a fool of us all.
  12. I have a Geddy Lee and would very much like a JMJ Mustang. I don’t particularly like Rush but I do generally like MIJ basses and like this one. I do like JMJ but want a Mustang as I now struggle with P bass necks and I like the look and word of mouth reports of the JMJ. The actual person behind the Signature doesn’t bother me.
  13. This. For example I bought some remastered CDs by John Martyn in the late’80s. Thanks to the remastered techniques they have aged far worse than the original works which still sound fresh. I also mentioned Prince earlier. Purple Rain has so many great tracks on it but IMO the awful 80’s production does it no favours.
