I have a Geddy Lee and would very much like a JMJ Mustang. I don’t particularly like Rush but I do generally like MIJ basses and like this one. I do like JMJ but want a Mustang as I now struggle with P bass necks and I like the look and word of mouth reports of the JMJ. The actual person behind the Signature doesn’t bother me.

This. For example I bought some remastered CDs by John Martyn in the late’80s. Thanks to the remastered techniques they have aged far worse than the original works which still sound fresh. I also mentioned Prince earlier. Purple Rain has so many great tracks on it but IMO the awful 80’s production does it no favours.

Personally I would swap out the pickups and loom. Take some time to find some used pickups you love the sound of and if your not great at soldering go for a solderless loom. Keep the old pickups and loom at least for a while until you decide if your going to keep the bass. If you decide to upgrade it after the mods just swap the pickups and loom out and either transfer them to your new bass or sell them on. Ultimately it will cost you under £100 and you will get most of it back at a later date. Hi-Mass bridges can look great and are often more comfortable if you rest your arm/wrist on them but don’t add much if anything to the sound IMO. Edit: Squire VM’s and CV’s are generally good instruments. I have played several CV’s that I liked more than MIM and US made instruments once they were set up correctly.

My teenage kids are getting into Sabbath and loads of other stuff I was discovering at their age. Great music is like a fine wine. It just matures with age!

As you have mentioned music that leant too heavily on tech or techniques of the time age badly IMO. I love Prince but his stuff sounds old. The Stooges on the other hand don’t sound like they were around 50 odd years ago. Some artists just continue to attract new audiences even after they are long dead.

The Brixton Academy was always the end of the road for me. Watching bands play there was generally bitter/sweet as I was pleased the band had gained success and popularity but sad that most likely it would be the last time I saw them live as the next tour would be in venues that were too big, too expensive and too much hassle. Sadly the RHCP are a band that got too successful, too quickly for me to ever see live.
