  1. I bought one from here a while back and love it. My only complaints are: 1) it’s just too pretty and feels like it wouldn’t take much punishment. 2) I’n used to the P bass shape and find the offset body is taking a bit of adjustment to get used to. Its a quality bass though and the neck is superb. For its price band, particularly used, it’s a lot of bass for not a lot of cash. The stock pups are fine but I have a set of Geezers that I had in another bass so replaced the stock pups with these. To me it’s a big improvement, but that may be more down to personal preference/familiarity.
  2. Can work well in Rockabilly/Psychobilly stuff though and visually can be good theatre with a DB.
  3. Interesting thanks. For me it sort of confirmed my thoughts that there are marginal differences with a very clean isolated instrument but nothing that can be differentiated once effects are used or in the mix.

  11. I think there is a cultural context as well in terms of vintage clothing and vintage instruments being seen as desirable, whereas simply being “old” is just outdated.
  12. Vintage is is subjective. To my kids anything from the 80’s is vintage. Edit: maybe a broad definition is anything from your parents era is vintage. Anything from their parents era is just history.

  14. Jesus gonna be here - Tom Waits
  15. I agree with this and about Creamery pickups. Despite the mockery there is a sound associated with those 50s and 60s recordings that is very enduring. Some of this will be down to recording techniques, including the often rushed nature of the recording and lo-fi production but some is down to the instruments. Less aggressive pickups combined with valve amps do sound pleasing to my ears. This is all subjective but I understand why people seek to reproduce it. I don’t think you will achieve it with a hi-mass bridge though!
  16. Little red corvette - Prince
  17. Probably back in the day with no internet and the nearest music shop was in a city a few hundred miles away so if you wanted something you had to make it. Sadly not everyone is good at woodwork!
  18. Whenever I look up vintage pickups the words scatterwound and heavy Formvar wire seem to crop up so my conclusion would be pickups made in this way combined with a valve amp would give more of a vintage sound than a high mass bridge. So I would lean towards marketing guff TBH.
  19. Possibly because the original instruments were string through body and high mass bridge development made this unnecessary? There must have been a perceived improvement for all the R&D to have gone into the development of high mass bridges. I’m not sure I can find a huge difference though other than they look nice and are generally less likely to have sharp edges.
  20. Walkin’ Blues - Robert Johnson
  21. All of the above could also apply to VW/Audi/Skoda. The main difference will be (perceived) prestige, trim and resale
  22. I’m not knocking it or the cash just comparing guitars as art to a piece of art. Personally I wouldn’t pay for either the primal scream guitar or the painting but If I had just spent a million quid on a loft apartment either may appeal.
  23. Would it look worse or be less value than this: https://www.singulart.com/en/artworks/alain-cugnenc-sans-titre-1269889 Note chosen at random I know nothing of the artist nor do I have an opinion on the merit or value of their work.
  24. Other than food I rarely buy anything from physical shops anymore. The last time I tried my experience was the same as yours. Queues, indifference, no stock. I ordered the item (spray paint) in store on the Amazon app and it was with me that evening.
  25. Closer - Screaming Trees
