  1. I had one of these for a while. It was a pretty decent bass. In the Squire CV ballpark. £350 is reasonable and as @Bassassinsays you are unlikely to lose money if you change your mind.
  2. The 80’s seem to be about taking two slightly pretentious words and combing them: Caberet Voltaire Spandau Ballet Depeche Mode etc How about Warsaw Couture or any number of combinations to this effect?
  3. What’s inside a girl? - The Cramps
  4. Beat me to it. New York Dolls as well? I rewatched Gimme Danger the other day on Prime. The Stooges were years ahead with their sound, look and attitude.
  5. Soul mining - The The
  6. I’m getting a vision that combines an IKEA showroom with a church youth club.
  7. Never Understand- JAMC
  8. Second hand Squire CV P bass. Everything you need and no need to be precious about it at less than £300.
  9. It don’t mean a thing (if it ain’t got that swing) - Ella Fitzgerald (version)
  10. Gris-Gris Gumbo Ya Ya - Dr John
  11. Hey Jude / Beatles
  12. Autopilot -QOTSA
  13. Kind of sums him up for me. Probably written in the garden of Clark Gables old house in the LA sunshine sipping a nice little number from Nappa. The slightly awkward and pretentious lad who but for a chance encounter would probably have been a librarian in a small flat in Salford and all he can come up with is bitterness and less forgivable very average tunes.
  14. Thanks. I was just writing from memory having read his autobiography some years back. It’s still sad that bands sully their reputation by squabbling in court and ripping each other off, particularly if they align themselves with left wing anti capitalist rhetoric. Speaking of which how did Morrisey end up politically so misaligned? The full court transcript is here if anyone is interested https://www.bailii.org/ew/cases/EWCA/Civ/1998/1711.html
  15. Don’t stop - Stone Roses
  16. Happy talk - Captain Sensible
  17. River man - Nick Drake
  18. If I had to guess and pull random figures out of the air probably because the majority of all instruments are made under license in the same handful of factories, using the same CNC designs and settings with costs varying around pickups, electrics, wood, hardware and marketing. Designing new stuff requires research, time, expense and the risk of poor sales. It’s a crowded market at the bottom and middle and cost triumphs over creativity.
  19. I think a design patent lasts around 15 years after that it can be copied with some limitations around trademarks etc. but I am not a lawyer so this is just a guess. Edit: Due to ergonomics, balance, the need to reach the lower frets and for the mass market ease of reproduction there are probably only so many variations on a theme that can be done.
  20. Man at C&A - The Specials
  21. Moonlight drive - the doors
  22. So long marianne - Leonard Cohen
  23. Angry chair - Alice in chains
  24. I’ve had similar experiences with Shane MacGowan. The Pogues were great live in the early days. As Alcoholism took hold he was a shambolic embarrassment at times. It’s a nasty illness. He was also a poet and not much of a singer.
  25. I admire bands like The Stranglers and The Cure who don’t let greed get in the way and split the money evenly amongst the band. Bands that squabble over the cash just forget why they were making music together in the first place and end up bitter and losing a lot of dignity not to mention income in the very court rooms and system they often set out to challenge. I stopped reading his book when Morrisey had bought Clark Cables old house, had already earned enough for a lifetime but was still whining on about the injustice of the record companies, courts and everything else. It was just sad.
