Is this genuine? Looks different to other photos of the same model online and I heard there were a few fakes around:

Cool! What do the knobs and switches do?
I wish I knew. Some of them don’t make any discernible difference. Quick look on the internet suggests mine is from 1962.

I have zero interest in cat videos, but this is impressive:

I surprised myself and got 100% - although admittedly one was a lucky guess.

I'll kick it off. I always assumed Julian Cope was purely a vocalist and was aware that James Eller played bass through most of the solo work. I saw an old Teardrop Explodes video recently and there was Copey playing the bass. Further research revealed he was the bass player in The Crucial Three. Anyone else surprised to discover someone started out as a bassist?

You say that, but that sounds like another beguiling true life story. Feel free to share more if you would like to - did you get to meet and spend time with your old man in the end?
It really is, isn't it! I found myself needing to get to the end to find out what happened and the bass player angle just added to it!
I was concerned it might be a Fred Lennon scenario but actually it's worked out well. He lives in Australia but we go on holiday together every year and Skype every weekend. My Mum used to go to The Cavern regularly and I always joked that my Dad could be McCartney. Subsequently, I've found out that my Dad's band played on the opening night of The Cavern.

Not really comparable but I knew virtually nothing about my Father for 50 years until my wife tracked him down. Turns out he’d played the tea chest bass in a skiffle band.

Not heard his name mentioned as yet. All the staff seem to be working professionals so I imagine there’s quite a turnover.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate your advice. First day today. Early days but I have to say, so far the teaching has been outstanding.

I’m just about to begin a HNC at this music school. Just wondering if anyone has any inside information, useful tips etc?

I’m quite proud of this thread. Normally my contributions elicit two responses at most.

I’ll kick it off - I’m terrible at working out bass lines to songs without using someone else’s tab or notation.

A particular bass you own, a compliment on your playing you once received, a specific skill you mastered ... etc?

Mani - The Stone Roses were spellbinding in the way that they melded 1960s pop psychedelia and dub dance music. Mani’s bass lines were an intrinsic part of that sound - punchy, infectious and instantly familiar. His work with Primal Scream and Freebass wasn’t too shabby either.

That’s really useful, thank you. Also, I’m guessing a reputable auction house would ensure authenticity prior to the auction?
