Wah woes

Love the tone from my bootzilla, but don't use the fuzz. Also when switching off there's a noticeable treble boost as the switch is at the top end of the wah. So is there a simiple fix or a pedal that has a similar tone? Would love one of the Morley ones with the auto switching but can't really afford/be arsed to buy and sell loads on if they're not right. For tone ref I use it on the 'mid' setting on the wah, fuzz not used at all.

EBS Fafner

Well cranked it (up to about 3 ) today at band practise. Don't really know how to describe it - amazing! Defined, punchy, gritty all in one. Don't think I've scraped the surface of what this amp can do and looking forward to having a play. In the 8 or so years I've had my Ashdown ABM300 I've tried replacing it with Hartke, G&K, H&K and a Tech21 but have finally found the one. Best thing is I've gone from pedalboard (compressor, TU-2 and wah) to just having my wah. Tidy.

EBS Fafner

Don't think I'll bother, as you say unless I take my amp to every gig I'll have to rewire anyway Cheers!

EBS Fafner

Been playing with my fafner (haven't cranked it yet unfortunately but sounding pretty sweet) and just wondering if anyone uses the phantom power for their active basses? Brilliant idea? Good but not perfect? Pain in the arse? I understand you need a stereo lead to use it, any recommendations (assuming it's any good)? Lots of questions...sorry!
6. Love my fretless, but only have the dots on the side so a bit scared about using it live! Gonna save it for some acoustic stuff with my singer in the summer I reckon, and maybe wear a head torch when I play
7. CGCF with Elite Stadiums 135 110 85 65, on my Spector which is 4 string 35" scale
8. Just got back from relieving Jake of his Fafner and Cab, he even came and met me half way - cheers mate! Pleasure doing business with you, can't wait to plug it all in and make some loud noise A+++++++
9.
Pah ! all this talk of the Blues, the real question is Can Blue Men Sing The Whites ? (Grumble grabs zimmer and hobbles out of the room before the younger members wonder WTF he means)
All I know is that I gotta mess my hair up, gotta make some noise...
10. Says 34kg/76lbs on the EBS site, but I don't know if it's the same model (sorry for 'helping' but I really want the Fafner!)
11. Bump! Someone take the cab please!
12. Gig confirmed for tonight! All good
13. Had a mate go awol for the last week or so, finally contacted me last night to say he wasn't going so I've got one spare ticket Will be at Victoria between 6 and 7 or probably easier to meet outside, don't make me sell to a tout! EDIT: On hold, last nights gig was cancelled as Terry Hall's got a throat infection - announcement at 2pm today as to whether tonights is going ahead...
14. The singer in my old band is proof that if work your butt off you can succeed and get a damn good job after uni. During his final year of Music Management he did a stint at Primary Booking for the work experience part of the course and has been there for nearly 2 years now (as a booking agent).
15. To play would be How Many More Times or some Clutch. To listen to would be Down, Clutch, Corrosion of Conformity or the majick Mystik Krewe of Klearlight.
16. Bit of Canned Heat, Janis Joplin too, love all that stuff! As for John Mayall, Parchman Farm on 'With Eric Clapton' is one of my favourite blues tracks, I think it's a very overlooked period of British music, some great reworkings of old blues tunes and some brilliant originals. Parchman Farm And as for Rory Gallagher, I mentioned Taste on the last page, and this is one of my favourtie performances of his: Gambling Blues
17. Apologies for getting all self righteous.
18. If you're on a public road then you can't be sure there's no-one around. You could be the drifting champion of the world but if someone less 'skilled' than you pulls out (maybe because they can't judge speed) in front while you're 'learning your limits' you're gonna be in trouble. Similarly you could meet someone learning their limits coming the other way. I love driving, I love speed, and there are plenty of places where you can find your limits in a controlled environment (run what you brung) or have a blast in something you'll never be able to drive normally (track days). Anything else is just stupid in my opinion.
19. I've used ronseal wood filler before, can be messy but if you mask up and use it sparingly it's easy. Also used it to fill some dings on my fretless before priming, once dry it sands nicely so easy to get flat for an invisible fix.
20.
Glen Campbell's version is much better.
Just had a listen on spotify, it's pretty damn good! EDIT: His version of Times Like These is brilliant too
21.
So far as I'm concerned I'm quite happy for bands to change their sound over time, even if I end up not liking them. If someone told me what I should be sounding like I'd tell them to go shove themselves; it's entirely up to the band.
I don't hold it against them! I just don't buy their stuff anymore. Insomniac was quite a change but I loved that, didn't like most of Nimrod (Good Riddance is the only song I can remember off that album and I think it's great) and then didn't bother with the rest. Heard it everywhere anyway! I think Basket Case is probably in the running for the "Song massacred by the most covers bands ever" award too
22. John Mayall and the Bluesbreakes feat. Eric Clapton Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac (aka good Fleetwood Mac) Free Groundhogs Taste
23. Nimrod was the turning point, everything before then is awesome. So there. And it's not because they got successful, it's because their sound changed (as many bands do over the years, sometimes for the better, sometimes not)
24. What strings does everyone use on their fretless? I've got these bad boys on at the mo: Galli Black Nylon Taperwound - plenty of 'Mwah' and a nice thump, kind to the fingerboard and lovely to slide on too!
