Just got my second in the aforementioned combination... one sounds great but two is something else!! I've played through Mesa, Aguilar, Ampeg etc in the past and these are right up there (whether I'm using my LMIII or a bigger valve head).
Looking good - I got my second one recently too. I know what you mean about the cabs; they're not the loudest cabs money can buy but they more than make up for it in tone & are plenty loud enough for the gigs I do (both metal & pop-rock). I wouldn't know - you'd have to ask one!
-
That is brand new information! Seriously though; we all know that but we are creatures of lust that have an inherent need to spend money which is why we all buy ourselves nice stuff. If it was just about tone/groove we'd all be using P-basses & sending everything DI'd through the PA.
-
I think you've left it perfectly long enough to not be called a PITA. Calling is usually the better option though, emails are too easily ignored or bluffed.
-
Looks good - I'd be very tempted to replace the grill (and logo) with something else if it was me; buy a nice bit of metal grill, cut to size, paint it a nice colour & even spray a design on it if you wanted - easy & you don't have to worry about the sideways logo or the odd non-perforated grill bits!
-
Sounds like pretty standard custom builder behaviour to me - I've had a few things custom made to order in both the bass world & other industries; they are universally all unable to hit a deadline or communicate properly. You just have to remember you're paying all that money for their making stuff skills not their communication or business practice skills - it'll be worth it in the end so just hold on in there, though you should call every now & again to push them along a bit.
-
Yeah - they're both good choices, just wanted to warn you that they won't necessarily sound the same but as you've just borrowed a Spector you'll hear it for yourself. I'm sure you already know but if financing is the only driver towards you needing to buy new you can use credit cards on paypal now so if you can find a second hand seller that will take paypal you could pop it on a 2-year 0% card & finance it that way which would probably work out cheaper than store credit/loans so long as you pay it off in full by the end of the period.

@Johnny Wishbone - have you tried any yet? Despite one of their models sharing a body-design Warwick's & Spectors have completely different tones so I find it a little odd that you'd be considering both - definitely worth trying before you buy as what you like about one might not necessarily be there in the other.
-
Nice - I have what I'm assuming is an older version (and possibly cheaper version as it has more generic tuners & standard fretboard dots). I really like mine - good for noodling when I can't be bothered to plug into an amp but sounds good amplified too, used it for a few "acoustic" gigs (though still going through the PA) & it sounded great!
-
Google's "lbs". 10kg - not bad! That's got to be less than your amp hasn't it?
-
Interesting first impressions - it'll be good to hear how you feel about the Ashdown after a few gigs! I've never got on with Ashdown amps but have used a few of the cabs & they've always been fine - enjoyment of sound is such an interesting one as we all perceive it differently & have different tonal goals (as I found out in my own recent cab search), often the most pleasing cab to the ear isn't the loudest. Decent handles on the Ashdown too - how much does it weigh?
-
Bargain if you can get it up & running for not much extra spend - feel sorry for your neighbors though!
-
If I had that kind of money burning a hole in my pocket I'd be going straight to the shop to try out a Rick but then probably wimp out & buy a nice jazz instead!
-
If you were going to buy a P bass, what model would you get?
Lw. replied to fretmeister's topic in Bass Guitars
If we're buying new I just don't see anything beating an American Standard Fender - they're just the classic that everything else is compared to, they do exactly what you'd expect & have great build quality. Obviously if we're going unlimited funding & ease of finding I'd have a pristine vintage one but in reality that'd be quite difficult. -
Love this rig - might not make the absolute wall of sound previous cabs have but the tone is awesome & they're plenty loud enough for me! Currently torn between wanting a big tube amp & a micro amp so sticking with the good old faithful Warwick for now - well over a decade old now & still doing the business:
-
Well yes, I believe "German Pro Series" is the name of the line - I did hear some discussion about whether parts from Germany bolted together somewhere else or parts from somewhere else bolted together in Germany still counts as made in Germany but I can't remember which way round it was or the outcome.
-
Are they snooty attitudes? I referenced them because the styling is similar, that's all. Cort make decent quality instruments at affordable prices, nothing wrong with that - in fact, in the early 00's I lusted after one of that tiny bodied with one huge soapbar basses that they made, thought they sounded great! It's just that other than the headstock these new Gibsons looks uber generic, which is really what Cort specialise in as they make basses for so many other people.
-
Lovely basses - if you like that Warwick sound then definitely go for it. I've seen thumbs go for between 1200 & 1600 depending on construction/year/condition. The playing position for most Warwicks is completely different to traditional style Fender type shapes (as stated above) - you're looking at everything being around two frets further away, this isn't a problem in itself but some people do struggle with the transition.
-
Just another bass shaped object - sad really. Look at all the quirky/different designs they've come up with in the past & now they're bringing out another boring GL-tribute/Ibanez/Cort nothing bass. Hopefully it will sound & play amazingly well & so do well but without hearing one; the headstock would draw me in then when I look down at the body I'd just walk past...

Hmm interesting. He/they must be worried about the fx risk or possibly the risk of extending credit to UK companies who then can't afford to pay it back due to the pound dropping (or future potential drops) & so are putting all the risk on the UK dealer rather than sharing some of it. I thought the new-ish German pro-series would see a lift in Warwick sales as they looked comparable to the Warwicks of the late 90's/early 00's in terms of price & general off-the-peg feel which were so popular but it doesn't seem to have worked out that way - must be because they are hard to deal with. Can't really comment on the other german made/custom ones as the prices are just completely unattainable for me, similar to Fender Custom Shop but yes, I doubt there are too many of them being shipped over given how few musicians have that kind of money!

Mine arrived today; I wonder if the "Handling issue" was that they addressed a load to the wrong people? Mine came with two address stickers on (mine just stuck over the top of someone else's) - I hope Mr Steve Foxon got his!
I'm sure I read that, post Brexit, Warwick want payment up front from UK dealers
How would Warwick be able to make decisions like that now when they don't know what trade deals will be in place? Was this in the press or just a made up internet comment? Not that there's anything wrong with requesting money up front for sales - we as customers have to do it all the time when ordering things.
-
Wunjo had a load in last time I was in there, their website isn't ideal for ordering from but you could probably order over the phone. But if you're buying un-seen I'd probably just order one from Thomann.

http://basschat.co.u...an-amp-anymore/ Lots of differing opinions in there. I think it depends on what you want/like/can afford.

I find it hard to believe they're going to stop making off-the-peg passive basses in the US - it is of course hard to say without insider info but I'd be more inclined to agree that they're probably just re-branding them to "US-Professional" or similar & giving them a bit of a spruce up. For me the American Standards are the bass all others are compared to & are the go to when you need something simple you can rely on when gigging - they're clearly not "the best" money can buy but they're the line where quality starts. They must be a significant proportion of Fenders overall sales too - I just don't think players will want to be spending over a grand on a mexican Fender, that's just not what the brand is about despite them playing fine. Fender detractors are always going to come out in threads like this but meaningless put-downs & suggestions of other brands don't have any impact on this discussion.
