Horses for courses - both nice basses. I don't see them competing in terms of styling or price, both very different markets so not sure how relevant mentioning ACGs is in this thread other than the chunks of wood with 4 strings strapped on to them aspect but no problem; I wouldn't say no to either if someone offered me one!

They look great! Sounding pretty cool too for that sound. I particularly like the semi-visible chambering. Thanks for sharing, not heard of them before.

Yes - he gets some nice basses through his hands, I've found it's generally best not to look.

Conversion rates when buying and selling in the Market place.

A surprisingly swift & easy resolution - well done to the two of you. These things always crop up when people aren't overly experienced in international trade - lessons have been learned* & you can both move along with your lives enjoying the transaction. *Lesson being always agree the fee in the currency of the acc you're paying in to & also agree who is going to take the bank charges hit (though generally you both do). -
Nice - I'd love a little project like this (need to spend more time browsing ebay!). Good luck with it, they're cool basses.

I'm sure the technology is great but could they have made it look anymore generic class-D? Saying that, I don't even have any suggestions; just seems like every amp that comes out at the moment is a plain box with some knobs on the front - I can't think of an amp since the Orange Bass Terror that had any kind of interesting design (maybe with Warwick LWA amps too actually). I'd like to see an amp that sounds great (which I'm sure his will) but looks stylish too (like how TKS are doing it with their cabs [kind of]).

Limelights are probably bordering on half the price of a Bravewood so materials used & man-hours should be taken into account. I'm not sure how you'd measure bang for buck or if either of those really come into it at the end of the day. Where are you based? Limelight are down on the South Coast but I imagine it'd be easier to get your hands on one for a quick trial if you were to ask nicely in the Limelight thread.

I've seen quite a few of those K5's (but the natural colour ones) being used out in the wild so they must be ok basses. Surprised by the Slipknot ATK; I'm sure he was always using a Warwick Thumb when I've seen them, must have moved over at some point - I do quite like the look of those ATKs but maybe not his sig model.

After all this tribute talk I was rehearsing in the room next door to a Black Sabbath tribute act (or at least a group of guys just playing Sabbath tracks) last night; they were pretty good really – still not something I would actively leave the house & search out but if it was a nice summers day with a tribute festival happening nearby & I was at a loose end I could see myself sitting in a park with a couple of tins enjoying it for a couple of hours.

Mine actually takes a lot of gain before it pushes into the over-drive sound, mostly it's just an EQing pedal. I use it for both the over-drive & clean sounds it can produce; I even use it for "acoustic" sets too (DI into desk) where break-up is definitely not wanted!

I never knew things like "Fake Festivals" existed, wouldn't be my cup of tea but I don't see how it's any worse than covers band nights & there are plenty of people on here that are happy with those. Although, do tribute acts always perform in fancy dress? Could be a bit awkward with clashing fashion decades. Pulp could moon the MJ tribute, Blur & Oasis could restart the brit-pop battles - lot's of fun.

What's your band called? A quick search on FB should show up any rival name users (these things do happen).
-
Put them in the loft as "they may become useful one day", only down side is when you move house & the other half see's them. Good-bye my trusty Laney combo, you served me well (she took it to the tip). Can you guess what I kind of need at the moment too? That's right, a cheap combo!

Names don't make me buy anything but if I were in the market for a new amp (say) and I listen to a load of bands & the few bassists whose tone I liked the most all seemed to be using the same amp, I would add it to the "to check out in person" list. I don't know if that still counts as the power of endorsements or not but it's the only way such things working on me. I don't know the name of the bass player from most of the bands I like and I certainly don't know what they look like so seeing them posing in a magazine with something isn't going to do much for me.
I used a Trace Elliot 150W head and a Peavey 4x10 for years, never even approaching half volume and a nice, defined sound it was too.
That's because those 4x10 Peavey's were awesome! I kind of wish I hadn't sold mine but then I remember it weighed more than my car.

If I were in the market for a high end P I'd certainly consider it - $4k seems relatively cheap to me; in or around Fender "Custom Shop" prices but made to Fodera's high standards. Price is all relative but that doesn't seem obscene like some of their other offerings (nothing against those either, they're just less obtainable for me). One of their better looking basses too.

There's a pattern emerging here... Out of curiosity; how long have you given it? I'd give it a couple of weeks then get rid.

The Next Generation Of Players To Inspire.....?
Lw. replied to spongebob's topic in General Discussion
Blue - do you actually think Hendrix is no longer relevant or are you just agreeing to get people to shut up? He died before I was born but both him as a musician and the whole band as a collective are a huge influence on me and are clearly identifiable as influences on a lot of other musicians that I listen to. I don't think I'd like going to a gig where no one was influenced him/them. -
I disagree completely. If you are closed-minded then you won't develop your tastes and that applies to music just as it does to food, to literature, to film, to life, etc. Being open-minded doesn't mean you have you like everyone and everything but at least you allow yourself the opportunity to learn to like or dislike.
Well now you've just change your point entirely. The comments were about liking something not about developing tastes. Being open minded & listening to new things can help develop new tastes, yes. But liking a new thing comes about because it suits those new (or even the old) tastes. Implying that people who don't like a specific new thing are closed minded/stuck in their ways is a very strange argument; I assume most people on this forum (as we're all musicians) listen to lots of new music every month, but I'm sure we don't all like all of it & there's nothing wrong with that - we all enjoy music in different ways. And I agree; age has nothing to do with any of this (other than the ages of the next generation of players, or the old age of the previous generation of inspirations). -
I'm 64. I like Thundercat. It's got nothing to do with age. It's about being open-minded.
Liking something hasn't got anything to do with being open minded. You like him because he suits your tastes. I hadn't heard of him until this thread, having listened to the couple of tracks posted; meh - I'm sure he's talented but I'm not particularly inspired by him, for me musically it's a watered down version of things like Jamiroquai/Brand New Heavies with a standard modern R&B vocal over the top. All fine if that's what you're in to so well done to him, just not for me. -
Prefect recording amp, not for gigging, pure warm sound!!
Lw. replied to zawinul's topic in Amps and Cabs
I'd probably be looking at one of those 20w Ampeg heads you've already identified then a basic/cheap 1 speaker (12 or 15) cab (depending on what you've already got). A nice vintage combo could be really nice but I just don't know enough about them to make a viable suggestion but don't rule them out as a lot of classic tones were recorded on these combos. -
Fender Mexican (Standard) Jazz Basses... What's the overall opinion?
Lw. replied to RustInPeace90's topic in Bass Guitars
I think the MIM's are a fine work-horse bass - I was looking at them when I bought my jazz, went for a used US one in the end but there was really nothing wrong with the Mexican ones. The MIMs I noodled on in the shops seemed better in quality & tone than the Squires I noodled on in the shops but I think it depends on whether you get good or bad examples of both, plus all the other variables that can occur when testing. Other bands are of course available; Maruszczyk are the current flavor of the month on here but the previous favorites of Sire & Limelight could also be options. -
Three for me, all get gigged but only ever take one with me: 5-string Warwick Corvette for the metal/hardcore band (we flick between B & D tuning so 5 string is easiest) 4-string Fender Jazz for the pop/rock band 4-string Fender electro-acoustic for acoustic gigs with the pop/rock band Play the jazz most when noodling at home as I prefer playing 4-strings. As with most others on here I would like more (a nice P-bass, 4-string Warwick, Thunderbird, something semi-hollow and maybe a head+body-less for travel) but I really need to sort my amplification out first.
