FENDER MIJ LIMITED INTERNATIONAL COLOR PRECISION BASS
Lw. replied to soulstar89's topic in Bass Guitars
The yellow paint on the jazz looks kind of cool but I'm struggling to see what makes these stand out from any other Fender subsidiary copy & the price is a bit silly for what they are. Also is it just my eyes or is something slightly off with the headstocks/logo placement? -
There's a Flea jazz for 850 on Gumtree at the moment, only drawback is it's got a head start on you regarding the aging. I see you've already seen Limelight - I'd be tempted to go that route & save a little more cash while you're waiting as then you get to spec it exactly as you want & can ask Mark to do as light a relic as possible.
-
They certainly are. Sire are one of a long line of tool manufacturers; they're perfectly usable, look acceptable & do the job for making music. But that is not why people buy boutique basses, no one buys them because they think it'll make the songs they're performing be better (equally, I have some quite expensive Japanese kitchen knives, they don't make my dinner taste any better). It's about ownership of a nice thing, always has been always will be. There's nothing wrong with either, they're just different purchases.

£1600 today or tomorrow before it goes - Daphne Blue Shuker J4 - *SOLD*

They look great! Probably depends on the gigs you play as to functionality though - when there's sweat dripping down the walls of whatever dive bar I've played in in the past, I'm not sure how confident I'd be with those!
-
Nice - I know people baulk at the new prices but the Fender Custom Shop really do kick out some great basses, they're just so enjoyable to play (and look at).
-
I do generally buy into fingerboard wood making a difference to tone, I just don't think it's as cut and dry as x is darker than y. To do a fair blind test you'd need to swap your two necks between one of the bodies you have, probably switch the machine heads too.

You have £300 and you HAVE to buy a new bass today…..

This - you've got to shlep to one specific store but it's difficult to see anything beating the LB-100 at that price. You can't get the good Squiers for under 300 and the Affinity's are nowhere near. -
Looks cool - Ian Allison (one of the Scotts bass lessons gang) was playing something very similar on insta yesterday!

Band interaction has left me thinking whats the point....
Lw. replied to jonnybass's topic in General Discussion
I suppose at this point the only reason to stay would be that it's your only source of income. If it's not it seems pretty clear that it's not working so isn't worth your time. I have played in bands with people I didn't really like & other bands where I didn't really like the music but there has to be something positive there to make you stay, music shouldn't be a chore unless it's your job. -
Worth noting here that the royalties calculated & paid out by the platforms isn't done on a per stream basis (despite what many high profile artists think), it's not even done on a per artist basis. Fair point though, the artists don't get much cash from streaming but it's a mess of the labels making. It's not just digital though, the whole industry is structured so that the artists receive the smallest share of the income. Speaking of messes - I've moved house three times with my CD collection in boxes, they're all just sat in the loft taking up space as I don't even have a CD player anymore!
-
Spotify for most things for me, if I decide I really like an album I'll then go & buy it on vinyl. Given the price of new vinyl these days, I very rarely buy without listening to the album a few times first to confirm it's worth it. I do occasionally pop into the local record stores and buy used records without pre-listening though, good way to burn through an hour of the weekend.
-
Again that's just price order isn't it? If Bravewood & Nash are trying to take Fender Custom Shop business, I don't think Limelight are - they're gunning for the Mexican roadworn business. Not really a fair comparison I don't think. No idea if they do Mustangs or not, wouldn't have thought it would be too difficult to do so though assuming parts are available.
-
Ok so you can see some of the cost saving elements but that neck looks great and overall looks wise at least it seems really good! These should prove popular if they sound as good as they look! At least the strings stay on the neck and line up with the pick-up which is better than some people can manage.
-
A decent first impression! Is the neck as flamed as the Thomann pics?
-
Other than the stingray they're all slightly quirky designs, is that what you're after? I think Warwick make great 5 strings with incredible tone but the thumb is an extreme design - if it's one to rule them all I'd probably look more towards a streamer for playability & looks. Other than that I always look at Sandberg's with a view to being my next bass but haven't actually bought one yet.
-
What did you go for in the end? I'm currently using one of the 1x12's from my main rig with a lower power small class-D head, pretty good for practice volumes and saves the space of having two different set-ups. I'm considering going smaller & getting some active studio monitors for my office and just practicing through my laptop instead so would be interested to hear if you did that when you were considering it.
-
Now that's a handsome bass - good score!
-
Have you played one? How do you know that? They certainly look like basses, but looking at the natural one you can see they're made to an extremely low price point. When something is that cheap, someone or something is being exploited. The retailer, factory & distribution are all taking a profit out of that so it only leaves the customers being sold a dud, the workers being exploited for low wages or the environment be savaged. Or a combo there of. People really need to think more before buying this cheapest of the cheap landfill fodder. The world deserves better than this. Thomann/HB can churn out ok quality at this price point because they ship an obscene amount of boxes so benefit from economies of scale. PMT do not. They look like basses but at this price point outside of HB, they will be absolute garbage. Hence, bass shaped object.
-
More bass shaped objects from the kids in China. I do like their improvised Zebrano finish on the natural one though - adds a bit of fun I guess 😂
-
It is quite nice looking but I haven't stayed across the ltd runs so maybe it is a bit boring if people have seen it all before. Is neck-through new for corvettes? They didn't offer that when I bought mine (early 00's).
-
Are these old models now? I'm sure I saw an add the other day for a different new ltd edition model from them - I think it was a corvette $$ with a different top?
-
Nice - the Vintera's are great basses, they took over from the "classic xx's" range which were essentially unrelliced roadworns. I just couldn't get on with constantly flicking between short & long scale so my Mustang didn't stick with me - my mind was just unable to adapt, so back to long scale I went!
-
The Vintera does, admittedly not all that much cheaper - more like a middle ground price wise. Also there are P necks & there are P necks. They have the 41mm nut a P has, but still felt tiny compared to my CS57 P but that's seriously chunky!
-
It's a great price if they look as good as the one in the pics but weren't these the ones with horrendously mis-matched woods underneath that showed through the translucent paint? I think I saw they had the 2-burst jazz on sale too which I did fancy!
