I think they're one of the best bands to come out of the 90's & I'm not even that big a fan. They're never going to break down any boundaries or push music to the next level, that's not what they're there for - they're a safe bet, comfort blanket for when people just want to relax with a bit of simple generic rock, it just happen that that is a lot of people a lot of the time which is why they're so successful. Saw them live in the early 00's and they were very good & would love to see them again though big venues like the o2 or stadium gigs really don't do it for me - I'll probably wait until they're next headlining a festival that I fancy going to, there's no rush as they'll be doing it for years to come. Is four too many song for a set? I don't know as I don't play in covers bands but they're one of the best bands in their genre so if you're going to have four of a bands songs in there it may as well be them.

I assume you've taken it to an amp tech? If not, it could just be a small gripe so worth getting it fixed. But back to your question; personally I prefer to buy new heads but am happy to buy used cabs mostly for the same reasons you have listed but it is worth checking out people's feedback threads - I would consider buying a used head from a reputable person on here, not so much from some random with hardly any posts though.

Were some of the other bands more hardcore than metal? The random punching/kicking thing is very much a hardcore thing & when hardcore crowds mix with metal crowds they do often clash (Lamb of God were always a classic example of half the audience not understand what the other half were doing). Though I have noticed at hardcore gigs in recent years, the younger crowds don't seem to understand the principals of the punch/kicking thing & just end up being arses sucker punching people, words have needed to be said a few times.

I just read "rare" as "I want more money than my item is actually worth so I'm going to use this buzz word in order to dupe someone that knows less about the instrument than me into spending over the odds". In that case, "rare" is just a good abbreviation really. I generally ignore these threads.
The LW1000 is totally tempting due to the enhanced headroom, but I've already ventured £200 over my budget ha, I guess an extra £75 won't hurt?
The never-ending story of life; they always pull you in with what's available if you stretch your budget a little. Don't over stretch yourself too much though; you don't want to spend all your money, have a big bill come in then end up having to sell your new amp to pay for it! I've never been able to get on with Ashdown amps either (though I've never tried their fancy looking all tube amps). I know if my [Warwick] amp went up in smoke next time I turn it on, I'd be straight on to the web to Thomann for an LWA1000 (though the 500 is quite tempting given the price actually, I could then keep the 500 as a light traveling head, then use the spare money to save towards a massive full-tube head hmmm....).
-
The Warwick LWA500 must have only just been released - I saw the launch videos ages ago but haven't seen a single one in stock anywhere & have been checking Thomann on a monthly basis. If they produce a similar tone to older Warwick amps I think they'll be very different to the Tech-21; the Tech-21 is good if you're into that faux-ampeg tone that their pedals do well where as the Warwick amps that I've played through very much more towards the clean & full end of the spectrum. It's only an extra £75 over your budget to get the LWA1000 which would give you plenty of headroom & it looks beautiful (though is of course a fair bit bigger).
'Wil post pictures later'
This gets me every time - why post the ad if you haven't got the pictures ready? Waiting another day or so before posting the full ad isn't going to kill you. In terms of why the market place is how it is; elasticity, supply & demand, free market. All of the above. The quality products at suitable prices generally shift very quickly & so the threads disappear without much notice - the stuff that hangs around is generally doing so because it is not priced keenly enough.
-
Do you have roadies? If not, I'd suggest getting another Compact & popping an Ampeg head on top - should be suitably thunderous with a fraction of the lifting.

Thought they were going to be rubbish, but pretty spot on actually!

Measure the sides of your cab, add 4 cm to each measurement, take your mums best quilted curtains, cut out the 5 panels you need, stitch together 2 cm in from the edge, turn inside out, job done. Measure twice, cut once. Return the curtain spares to the pole.
Most decent wines use a screwcap now so it isn't that important which way the bottle is stored.
This very much depends. I buy a range of wines from most prices & would agree that cork doesn't necessarily mean quality, but I wouldn't say "most" decent wines use screw caps - it seems almost random by brand to me. I know some that I like to buy come with corks & I wouldn't chose to store them upright. Then again it's not really a problem for me as I don't have anywhere near enough space in my house to use a double bass (or is that chello sized?) to store wine!
Here's the upmarket version.
Storing wine upright, pfft nothing upmarket about that!

I'd have thought comparing the S112 to the Super Compact would have been a fairer comparison but either way I'd be interested to hear people's thoughts too. I'll shortly be in the market for new cabs & the TKS S112 (two of them for me) is the forerunner at the moment. The new tweeter-less Purple Chilli 112 could be an option too, though I've not heard/seen anyone using them yet.

A £5 fee for starting any posts with Fender in the title would go a long way towards curbing the tedious trolling on this forum.

Nice - it'll be interesting to hear how it sounds! -
Six pints and a couple of jagerbombs before hand will settle the nerves and ensure a professional performance...
This would be my advice too :-)

Buying a used bass.... the Truss rod; do you check it?
Lw. replied to Grangur's topic in Bass Guitars
I generally have a little look at the end of it to make sure it's not overly scratched or anything but other than that, no. On the opposite side of the argument though; how many people would let a prospective buyer mess around with the trust rod before buying it? I know I would not (though I wouldn't be trying to sell a broken one without letting people know anyway). -
I use one of the Dave Hall Amps EQ/DI pedals & find it to be very good; I use it both for clean EQing in one band and tube over drive in another - have used it both live & direct into the desk for recording and it's performed as desired in both circumstances.

As I can only really comment on the stuff I have hands on experience of; I'd agree that Warwick have stayed constantly good - I've played one from every decade and they have all been top quality, I think putting the cheaper far-east stuff under a different brand name has helped them in this respect. My recently made Fender is better than the Fenders I've played from the 70's & 90's though I doubt it's better than ones from the 60's but I've never played one so can't comment. Ibanez seem to be one that has got better; the quality of their current stuff is very good even if I find their designs quite uninspiring.
-
Yep its a common problem outside the creative hubs/cities. I'd suggest focusing on writing & recording the kind of music you do like then join one of the less inspiring bands so you can keep your name out there - you'll meet suitable people eventually.

ive never been able to get a tone i like out of an ashdown amp so i know which id go for but it depends what you are after i guess, im sure theyre fine though once you spend a bit more time with them. the cabs i have found more usable.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone putting gigging down, it's almost unfathomable to me; gigging is the bit I like the most - there must be some very strange people out there!

Recommend me a CD writing/duplication/printing service please!
To get the best sounding CD you really ought to have your recordings properly mastered before sending them off to have the CDs made. This will also help to make the EP sound like a whole and not a bunch of different sounding recordings.
This. I can't remember who my band uses but I doubt any of them are that much; I think we paid about £35/40 a track (more if you want a faster turn around than a few days). The difference proper mastering makes is huge yet ironically so subtle it's hard to pin point what's changed.
