I was going to say just click in to the ad & find out but then I realised that when I've gone to sell something in this section I've always included one of those option in the title anyway so you could have a point. I would say that the section doesn't need splitting out any more though (the forum is already too segregated IMO), just need people to be better with their titles.

There has been quite a variety of German Warwicks in the for sale section recently - which specific one are you after? Don't say a 4-string Infinity as they don't seem to exist second hand.

Black Warwick Thumb with gold hardware…any images?
Lw. replied to Kubickiboy's topic in Bass Guitars
Or a gloss black at bass direct , video link on page. http://www.bassdirec...II_4_Black.html
I keep looking at this - got a big birthday coming up this year so a new bass could be on the cards though I keep changing my mind as to which I want! A question for the Warwick aficionados though; that ad on Bassdirect says it's a '91 but I thought they switched to the sloping tuners around 88/89 - is there something odd going on there or have I just got my years wrong? -
The thread has certainly taken a turn for the better - I'd much rather hear from happy users than a dealer. Much better for the brand too.

Couple of months maybe. Though I still get little blisters now if I do several nights in a row with a lot of digging in on the strings (depends on the band/sound). Have you considered not plucking the strings as hard? Or installing flats?
From the front it would just like a standard Jazz with a rosewood board, blocks and binding and a matching headstock. However it would have a neck-through construction with the neck painted to mach the rest of the bass, angled headstock, Lightwave pickups under the bridge ashtray.
I mostly agree with you here (though I'd swap the blocks & binding for clay dots & no binding) but I'd go Wenge neck-through, no paint or varnish. I'd love to have a bass like that.

Is it just me or are the pictures not loading? ;-)

I think all forums (and communities in general, even IRL ones) go through phases, as with everything else in life; the more popular something becomes, the more it changes. I don't look in OT very often so it seems I've missed all the fun! There does seem to be a disproportionately high number of people on here that are out for an argument, especially those ones that clearly have an agenda even if it's not relevant to the thread but would it make me flounce? No, it's pretty easy to spot the idiots & just ignore them then the forum is great again. There's a lot of great information shared on here along with some jaw dropping p0rn pics - I wouldn't want to miss out on it because of the minority. I've never had a problem with the moderation on here though I guess I've missed the threads/posters that are being referred to. The moderators on The Guardian on the other hand...

Blue Studios in Dalston are pretty good, we're mostly using them at the moment - they're new so everything is at least clean & they've built a bar/chillout area too which is nice.

(Probably) A stupid question about anchor points
Lw. replied to Jonnyboy Rotten's topic in Bass Guitars
I've seen quite a few people fit thumb rests but I've just got used to playing mine without one. I generally just have the fleshy part of my thumb pressed against body of the bass where the pickup would be & find that it gives enough grip. This probably just highlights my poor technique but I get by. I imagine it's a good excuse for learning to play with a floating thumb (as used by many quality bassists) where you rest your thumb on the string above & I have tried but having the thumb anchored at either pickup is just too ingrained for me & I can't get away from it. -
Seems like a step in the right direction - having also been a fan since my formative years I saw them a few years ago at Pukkelpop and they were absolutely awful - even that recording on a phone sounded better. Just need to cut out the rubbish jokes now, whilst I appreciate they were part of the show the first time round it seems a bit sad seeing a man of that age trying to act that way when I'm sure deep down he knows it's not funny anymore too... Is it a bit strange he's using a bass that doesn't even resemble his signature bass though?
-
Yes they vary hugely, I have to agree with above as well; Enterprise are (were?) the worst I've used though those ones in Borough come a close second. Is there much point in using all your own kit & trying to get the levels right in a rehearsal studio? I'd have thought the levels (and EQs) would be completely out compared to what you'd need in a big open room for a gig...

I think it's always nice to have both. I flick between 4 & 5 on a daily basis depending on what sound I'm going for. Saying that, I prefer both the feel & the look of 4-strings (regardless of brand) though of course this is completely personal. As your 5 is a classic-toned bass maybe consider going for a modern sounding & active 4 so you've got more tonal options?

A = 15 B = 10 C = 12 Based on how similar (or not) they sounded to other cabs I've owned in the past. Though as I haven't heard my old cabs through this pair of headphones I imagine it's all made up in my head. I'm planning to be driving back from Bassgear with a heavier car at some point this year so interested in the outcome too...

What's the general standard of player who reads Basschat?
Lw. replied to lou24d53's topic in General Discussion
Interesting question - I suppose it depends on your definition of standard or what a good player is (to be honest I'm not sure how I'd define either). I've seen/heard some people on here playing some really impressive stuff & also seen/heard more basic lines but played to perfection locked in with the drums, I couldn't say which is better. I would be interested to see what % of posters on here have taken their basses out into the wild though... -
Pick an obscure lyric from one of the songs you do - obv not a chorus or title though as it'll make you look like a tribute act.
-
Depends on which bass I'm playing; my Jazz is generally quiet, audible but you don't really get the tone. On the other hand my Warwick is loud enough to be heard over the TV to the point that I'll often pick it up if there's a lot of music in the program I'm watching & try to play along - it's an incredibly resonant bass.

Should every bass player play at least a little bit of guitar
Lw. replied to CHW's topic in General Discussion
It certainly helps with song writing/working through new songs in a band situation - there's only so many times I can explain something to a guitarist before I just say "Give it 'ere". -
If the signature is above the clear-coat it's two minutes with a soft brillo-pad away from being a lovely looking bass. £260 for a custom colour with matching head-stock is a bit steep for me but then I was too cheap to buy a new Am Std anyway & waited until a suitable one came up second hand. Depends how much you like the colour I guess - if you can settle for one of the standard ones just buy a second hand one on here and save 50% of the cash.
I'm sorry LW, but how on earth is she using her looks to boost popularity.???? she's not dressed provocatively, she just looks like a normal girl.. she's using her playing to boost popularity period.. that is just an absurd thing to say.!! its you that is seeing it from that perspective not her. if anything, that right there, is sexist. there really are some out of date opinions on BC. some in touch ones too i might add.
Hmm, I'm not sure if this conversation is worth continuing or not after this. Your response has actually quite angered me so I'll try to keep this on point. We both have opinions that seem to differ; I think she's a professional musician using the tools in her arsenal to put on a performance, you don't agree - fine/whatever, that's what internet discussions boards are for. Now this is where I feel like I'm addressing a child but it needs to be said - you don't go into discussions then accuse people of being sexist when what they've said is quite clearly not. Calling me that is incredibly offensive & shows a complete lack of understanding of the issue or even the meaning of the word. The irony of it being the person that started this thread saying it is not lost on me. I think I'll have to go back to the classic threads of "which fender?", "I hate Fender" & "Ashdown - to spontaneously combust or not?" - much less subjective ;-)

I work just around the corner from Denmark street; I've always just seen it as comparable with regional stores of Guitarguitar/Dawsons or whatever, it's just that you go through doors & down the street to the different departments. It's ok for cheap things & if you walk past regularly you are often treated to something nice second hand but it's pot luck if you're travelling for just on the hopes of them having something good in. Bass Gallery & Bass Direct are the better options if you're wanting to make a day of it, though even they won't always have what you want. And to the person looking for a book; you know Foyles just moved into the building next door right? They've actually done a really good job of the new building so it's definitely worth a look you're after something special for the coffee table.

I've never cut a bass string, I do the same as Roland Rock; bend the end to a right angle & stick it in the whole, tighten with the spiral going down, tune up, done. Never had any problems & have only needed to tune it once after the re-string (obviously I tune all the time for gigs & rehearsals but just once in the current sitting/when I'm just noodling at home). Now guitar strings or ukulele strings - less simple.
Ummmm, she's just playing her bass in jeans and tshirt?! Si
Yes, the point stands though. Everyone in music uses their image to enhance their performance, Slipknot/Ramones/Madonna/Taylor Swift, everyone does it - I'm sure @Blue could tell you all about it. Yes, she's wearing jeans & a t-shirt; do you think she just happened to pick those clothes up that day then decided later to record a video? Then look at the make-up, the hair, the way she's moving, the way she looks at the camera, the camera angle etc etc... - there's nothing wrong with it & I'm not having a go, she's a music performance artist & is putting on a good show.

Have you recorded your tunes/riffs? Often easier to get people on board if you have... After that, guitarists are ten a penny - open mic nights, joinmyband, gumtree; guitarists as far as the eye can see, just pick one that isn't too annoying.
