The last gig was an absolute nightmare - had a narrow window in which to load in (at a professional football club), people getting in the way whilst we were trying to set up, small lift, 1st floor venue, sound guy hadn't used his gear in a while wand was a bit at odds with it, awful monitor mixes, boomy everything, I had a headache which got worse with every note and people started to drift off around 10:30 to catch buses. definitely one I'd rather forget about and quickly.

Off to see Vivian Campbell's Last In Line with support from Inglorius on 28th November Such a shame that Jimmy Bain passed away as he was also part of this project.

The Gibson Firebird is the ULTIMATE cool upside down headstock guitar! The headstock shape works just well as the bass but with the tuners in the traditional placement

Celebrated the 2nd Anniversary of Think Lizzy with a return to a venue we've played a few times. Quiet for a Friday night (landlord called it average for him) but peeps had a fun night, a few old faces turned up and we got paid...job done! I returned to using IEMs after a while away from them and quickly realised that it's well worth the effort of spending 5 mins to put an AKG PP416 in front of each guitar cab and spending 2 mins dialling up a quick mix - no headache or shouting at my housemate the next day, no sore throat from forcing my vox trying to hear myself in the wedge against the backline, no kit-induced ringing ears - lovely!

All, Friday 11th November sees Think Lizzy celebrate their 2nd anniversary gig back at the venue in where we started out 49 gigs ago. Get along to The Poet and Castle, Codnor, Derbyshire DE5 9EQ and join us for a night chock full of classic Thin Lizzy rock tunes - 9:00pm start...or there abouts!

Failed one audition - that was not because I couldn't play the gig (country rock) but that they were concerned regarding travel distance. I only took a shot as I thought it would be fun to play something different
-
Back to front, upside down and inside out - mostly because the drummer doesn't practice enough so takes a lot of his cues from me visually rather than applying himself to learning the set back to front upside down and inside out!

Didn't Neil Murray offer to help out with this for someone a while ago? I seem to recall a thread to which he contributed -
I've used it as a swell from time to time - works quite nicely
Does the guitarist play with IEMs? If so, put so much guitar though them so his ears bleed. Funnily enough, having certainly instruments in IEMs are a good way of getting the players under control. Drummers, for example, are less likely to bash seven shades of sh1t out of their kit if it's killing their ears. Its amazing how more disciplined people can become with regard to dynamics in such situations
He's an old school dinosaur when it comes to things like sound reinforcement...more backline is good is his mantra. funnily enough - he swapped to a 15w Victory Kraken amp and loves it instead of his 50w rip-yer-head-off-at-10-paces Earl! Part of the problem is a limited number of monitor channels on the analog desk that we use. That said - I'm sure we could run 1 for the twin guitars and another for the drummer/myself who want a more shall we say rounded mix, not a me me me me me mix! Myself and the 2nd lead guitar try to educate. We'd go DI or isolation cab even in a pub if we had our way

I love my IEMs but do suffer from no FOH engineer and the inevitable volume twiddling guitard! This same guy (of the two) never realises the potential of a low volume backline and a good PA. A shame as the other is as good as gold (and is used to playing much larger venues with engineers/crews etc) What starts off as a sensible guitar in my ears level quickly becomes out of control!
-
I chuck a MiBass 220 into the boot - never needed it but it's there if I have to. I've gigged it once just to try it - it managed (just about!) but it can run a DI into the FOH desk if need be so out and out volume isn't priority!

All, Think Lizzy's quest for East Midlands domination (we'll work on conquering the world later, perhaps after tea!) continues on Fri 14th October at The George and Dragon, Market Place, Ashbourne, Derbyshire DE6 1EU at 9:15 Another small but friendly venue that knows how to have a great time.

All Think Lizzy find ourselves with a gig at short notice this weekend. Catch us at The Stumble Inn, Long Eaton, Nottingham, NG10 1JF for an evening chock full of classic Irish rock. It's a great venue with a brilliant vibe and close to Long Eaton railways station for services into Derby and Nottingham. It all kicks off around 9:15

Hopefully enthusiastic, but quite flawed!
-
Bit like EZBass - I was already a competent guitarist with reasonable theory and good fret board knowledge. I became a bass player when one was needed after the bassist quit a band that I was in at the time.

When I reach average then I'll let you know!

Our guitarist has gone mad and nearly - but not quite - made it out of Derbyshire/Notts for our next gig! I think he may need a lay down! Catch Think Lizzy at the amazingly named Frog & Nightgown, Worksop, Nottinghamshire, S80 1PH for an evening's entertainment rammed full of Lizzy classics -
I learned it ages ago and oddly enough came back to it a few weeks ago..lovely line to play - drop tuned to Eb IIRC
Really, more important things in life for who? Not me. My basses and playing is my life. Blue
My friends, family and my life partner. Possessions are just that, the people in your life are more important.

I have a few guitars that I'd keep (especially an SG which was my 40th birthday gift) but apart from that sentimental reason no, they're just objects. There are more important things in life.
