How far do you travel for a pub covers gig?
DaytonaRik replied to spike's topic in General Discussion
Most of my gigs are 60-70 mins away - about 120 mile round trip as the remaining three members are local to Derbyshire/Stafford and I live in South Yorks - easier for one to travel than three, but now and again it would be nice for me to be the first one home. It's only happened once so far! -
Hands up! who's in a 80's/90' pop/rock cover band

Thin Lizzy trib/cover band, Ashdown ABM 500 head/Ashdown 2x10 and 1x15 cabs, Limelight 70's Precision replica...job done! -
What's the biggest gig you have played?
DaytonaRik replied to MacDaddy's topic in General Discussion
I was lucky enough to play before an ice hockey game and in between periods between Sheffeld Steelers and Newcastle Vipers at Sheffield Arena to around 5,500 people...loads of fun! -
Think Lizzy had a gig booked on my 50th (recently!) and so we played it! I'm not really a massive party person but they guys in the band got a me a cake and evening turned into a bit of a celebration. I quite enjoyed it if I'm honest!

Hi All, After our usual summer sabbatical Think Lizzy return to live action this weekend at Dixies Arms, Bagthorpe, Nottingham, NG16 5HF We'll be delivering Phil and co's finest rock classics in the smallest but friendliest venue that we've ever played from 9:00pm

Isn't VAT only payable on the margin for used goods - i.e. on the difference between the trade in price/value and the eventual selling price...and the rate is 16.67%

Wishbone Ash, in the pub, last night

An original's band I played in from 1988 through to early 2000's support WA at Bradford's Rio Rokz - a proper old school sticky floored rock venue/rock club. Must have been the late 90's/early 00's -
2 heads (EVO and MiBass), 2 cabs, 2 basses, wireless and cables, strings - you name it I take two of it. The ONLY time I can remember not putting a spare instrument up was Rock City this year and yup...I broke a string! The law of sod is not only alive and well but it waiting for musicians the world over!

A serious hobbyist? Someone who may not take home a fortune after each gig but treats it as if it were his livelihood so professional, prepared, well equipped, well rehearsed and having fun!

The Cadillac Three feature a bass player (lap steel player IIRC) on their recordings but gig without one

Played at Leathered in Lincoln - Halfway Heroes MCC rally - and as expected this was a much more receptive audience than the Hells Angels gig at the same venue a couple of weeks ago. The crowd got more into it as the beers flowed and by the closing tracks (Cowboy Song, Boys Are Back In Town and Whisky The Jar) a good few folks had wandered down to front for a bit of a headbang/boogie! I stopped overnight and watched The Detonators featuring Handwired of this parish - they delivered track after track of rock classics executed superbly. A top weekend!

I've had my Lynott replica for about 14 months and gigged it every other week in that time but I've just noticed that it's getting considerably more road worn on the forearm chamfer - [attachment=224288:IMG_5180.jpg] [attachment=224289:IMG_5178.jpg] And the reason for this additional wear 'n' tear - [attachment=224290:IMG_5179.jpg] I'm not for one minute complaining and it's interesting to see the difference between real wear, noting how much larger the area of worn top layer down to just primer is compared to the original relic'd finish. I'll keep an eye on this over the next few weeks/months and document its progress!

This Saturday sees Think Lizzy return to The Davey Lamp at Ilkeston - come and help me celebrate becoming a pentagenerian. There have been moment when I thought I'd never make it - mostly involving two wheels and an engine! The Davey Lamp, The Triangle, Ilkeston, Derby DE7 4AP with a 9:00 pm (ish!) start.

I used to run an ABM 1x15 Combo on top of an ABM 2x10 extension cab - it sounded great!

Played at a Hells Angels MC bike event on Friday. Every track was greeted with an absolute wall of silence! We kept our heads down, got on with it and at the end of the gig the VP of the club came up to our guitarist and said it was brilliant and they loved it! What??? Speaking with the sound engineer afterwards we were told "you're walking out...that's a good sign!!!!!" Contrast that yesterday with a tiny village social club with maybe 20 people in there and the place bounced. Not really a rock venue but we were enthusiastically received and the venue want us back later this year. It just goes to show that you never can tell.

Playing bass is just one of my hobbies/pastimes along with cycling, running, snowboarding and myriad of other thigs. Think Lizzy play pretty much a locked set and I can't recall the last time I rehearsed, apart from this Saturday with a dep drummer for an upcoming gig (drummer is criminally brilliant!) - I play along with a track I fancy learning once in a while but that's about it. That said, as I'm about to form a new rock covers band to run alongside TL I suspect that this approach may need some more thought!

Lovely! It's definitely not mine (your old one) though Tobie!

NBD - I bought a "P" I did (Tokai Hardpuncher)
DaytonaRik replied to artisan's topic in Bass Guitars
I love mine - even though it's primarily my back-up I do enjoy giving it a run out now and again. In fact, it might get an airing tonight! -
The Tokai logo changed in '83 to block, then again in '84 to the heavier script logo above. The spaghetti Fender-a-like 'law suit' logo was discontinue in '82. [attachment=222221:IMG_0009.jpg]

Obscure Musical Backwaters - The Great SGC Nanyo Thread
DaytonaRik replied to Happy Jack's topic in Bass Guitars
When I switched from guitar to bass aBass Collection was the tool that made it all possible. A replaced tuner, someone had butchered the electronics but the previous owner restored it to working if not aesthetic order - I think I paid £110 for it. It didn't (and still doesn't) have and knobs fitted and a mix of splined and smooth pot shafts - its a player not a keeper! I've not seen another pewter/silver one. The SGC logo is very clearly marked in gold on the top of each p/up but there is no sign of a serial number on the inside of the cavity plate. BBoT bridge, non-brass nut but active so I'm guessing an early SB310? [attachment=222118:IMG_4899 (1).jpg] -
All, Think Lizzy pull into Nottingham proper on Saturday 25th June to deliver a set jam-packed full of classic Lizzy tunes at The Lion, 44 Mosely St, Basford, Nottingham NG7 7FQ. A footy free pub with a 9:30pm start - what's not to like?
